To me, owning A7SIII, and as I need a second camera so gonna get it. Also flicker-free 4K@60-120fps is a killer feature! Also for my wildlife photography it's a cheat code and could leapfrog many other photographers hitting the perfect photo at 120fps RAW.
Hard pass for me (and most sane folks who lack delusions of working for the New York Times, or angling for a Pulitzer in photojournalism). But if (as you note) they repurpose the sensor into an FXx update, it's a maybe. #sonygreed
Figure about 10 usable stops of dynamic range from the A9III… that’s a fail for video IMO. FYI: Red licenses internal compressed RAW… they did with both Nikon and DJI. Sony could offer it as an additional purchase. Optionally, Sony could offer a pseudo internal Raw like the do on Burano.
When that Global shutter makes its way into the A7 and FX series…..I’m all in. I can’t afford this camera, but I can’t wait for the applications of this tech across the board.
Also as far as raw recording goes look at the Burano. Sony can do Raw if they want to without the need to go through Red and i asked the Sony rep showcasing the Burano and Adoramas event for the camera if they could and he confirmed that they can.
I'm not sure what all the ins and outs are as far as internal RAW recording goes. There are obviously more RAW recording formats: Canon, Arri, BMD, etc. I think Sony's X-OCN Raw format is only an internal recording option on the Venice 2 and the Burano, so I'm not expecting that to come to the alpha or the FX line anytime soon. It would be cool if there were internal compressed 12-bit 4444 (which is a format Sony has included in older cinema cameras) and/or the ability to use BMD recorders for BRAW
