Unpopular opinion... Ultra Despair Girls is the only installment to take the topic of childhood trauma seriously, instead of using it as motivation for a "crazy character" (Mikan, Korekiyo, etc.), and is thus one of my favorite Danganronpa games.

@Alice Think it was to add some comedy to the game by making the "opposite of child porn" joke, but it just left me unable to take Kotoko seriously. Felt like they went a bit too far there. DR games always have some absurdly sexual comedy in them, but then you can't take the character seriously, like Mikan kept "tripping" in the most fanservice way possible, and Hajime took a peek at the girls in the bathroom (Hiyoko looks like she's 10 or something it just felt wrong af), that scene with Miu "fixing" Keebo, there are a lot of things I'm trying to forget happened in DR lol. I just play DR for the interesting characters, interesting murder mysteries, the unique ambiance of each game, and the godly music. I never asked for the sexual stuff ;(
If you revived her, and if you are talking about everything, Kyoko too, then they could've had every suppose to be dead character stay dead, and just had Chiaki, Kyoko, and the rest of the surviving future foundation.
The characters in DR2 never actually died, they just fell into a coma, so I thought, it made sense for them to come back I didn't like the thing with Kirigiri, though, that just felt cheap
@@mweeee Nope as in it wasn't a cheap stunt because there were a billion hints that she had the antidote and she was still alive. Although, it is understandable that people may think it is cheap though but it would have been out of character for Kyoko to die the way she did if she actually died anyway.
its still pretty cheap they just...were fine, with no consequences, like the entire killing school trip didn't even matter in the long run as it had no real effect on anything. Also nagito gets to live despite being genuinely insane who tried to murder his friends because he found out they used to be remnants of despair and WHY IS NOONE WORRIED ABOUT HIM TRYING TO DO THAT AGAIN

You know what pissed me off? When they killed Chisa, then fleshed out her character, and then killed the real Chiaki in the despair arc. I legit just threw my device on the couch and walked off, it's cool if you don't feel the same.
I understand why Kirigiri being alive again makes no sense but Danganronpa 2.5 sort of explains why the Remnants of Despair are alive but not super well
also, even if all of class 77 being alive makes it seem as if all of the DR2 events were meaningless. We have to think that they still have to carry the heavy burden of feeling that they killed millions of people and destroyed the world, and that they probably killed all their relatives. Even if they didn't die and they still have each other they still have a lot of things worse than their own death to carry on their shoulders.
I guess I'm one of the few people who were really happy with the ending. I was really glad to see everyone back, and it was implied to happen in the ending of the game anyway. DR3 was a trainwreck, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the dr2 cast returning was the one good thing to come out of it.

Oh shit Teruteru was my favorite in DR2. I still feel kind of ashamed that I liked him a lot when I got into DR back in highschool. My online friends told me to NOT look up any fanart, unfortunately I got slightly spoiled between chapters 2-4. In V3 I never really got spoiled besides who dies in CH4. DR1 I already knew what happened throughout the entire game so it was alright.
Honestly the whole "Hajime's class was magically hypnotised" crap retcon from Despair arc pissed me off more then anything from Future arc. Retroactively making the previous games twist less interesting hurts the series more than anything in Future arc.
This. All of this This is one of the hugs reasons why I think the despair arc is awful. All that build-up, only for the *sole reason* of how the second game exists to be lazily put together. They do that with a bunch of other stuff in the despair arc, but this is the biggest mistake
Lets not forget how they treated Chiaki. They had a chance to make her a better character, but now her critics have more ammo to prove that shes just a mary sue (even though i couldnt agree with that, esp in SDR2)

This might sound nitpicky, but Chiaki was technically never meant to exist, as her backstory was that she was an A.I. from Chihiros code. There was no "she was human all along that was _so_ perfect, she was used as a tool to lazily hypnotize the class, and then ended up being the character made to protect them because they just missed her SOOOOO MUCH" BS. Which sucks, because I actually don't blame people who think she's a MS because of it since she was turned into a flawless martyr here. R.I.P. in peace Chiakis character
@@rasp-passiontea8525 If anything, seeing Chisa falling to despair or dying would have destroyed Class 77-A. It was her who brought the class together, not chiaki. The only seen scene I LOVED from Despair Arc was when Izuru started crying after seeing Chiaki. Although I wished that Hajime did get to meet with everyone else, i could see him using someone like chiaki as an excuse to go through with the project.
Personally I like the idea of Chiaki being an actual person, but I feel like the way they explained why the DR2 kids turned evil didn't make much sense. Also, how is Chiaki a Mary sue? That never even crossed my mind in DR2. Granted, I'm not a big fan of the term Mary sue as it is because I think it's used way too much.

Some people get really pissed off, but tbh tehre's a lot of white characters that has strange designs and people don't care that much (I'm saying this for the ones who believe that Bandai is racism). Dr has a lot of cool black characters: Sakura, Aoi, Juzo, Akane, etc... But I'll be honest, it would be amazing if they do more interesting black characters. A big bara boy or a an Ultimate mechanic girl with dreads would be amazing! '3'
i mostly agree with what you said but the sdr2 kids all coming back was, iirc, pretty heavily implied to be the main goal of hajime after that game ended, and the idea he could do that was the whole reason everyone was okay with choosing future and leaving the simulation anyway, so i feel that for them to all come back was a natural conclusion. that being said, from what i remember even the good parts of the anime feel weirdly irreverent to the games (they all loved nanami so much she ended up in the simulation but they didn't give enough fucks about their teacher for her to show up as opposed to monomi? also completely disregarding how junko was stated in sdr2 to have slowly and carefully cultivated despair in the whole class as opposed to wheeling in the tv to play bill nye despair guy during class) so i mean you know its kind of just better to pretend none of it happened at all.

@@sarafontanini7051 i think it was just due to his dementia and the pressure of being in a killing game. ofc that doesn't excuse his actions but i feel like outside of the killing game there's really no need to be afraid of him causing harm (as shown in despair arc he's pretty chill besides the whole gym thing). if you haven't seen it i recommend the 2.5 episode as it delves deeper into his psyche. it kinda feels like you're watering down his character a bit tbh to "crazy hope guy"
@@sarafontanini7051 Nagito tried killing everyone because they were Ultimate Despairs. They were NOT Ultimate Despairs anymore after Hajime did his thing. There wasn't any reason not to revive Nagito.
I'm honestly more pissed about Aoi surviving than Kyoko. At least Kyoko's fake death moved the plot along and was explained...not in the best way possible, granted, but it was at least _something._ Aoi "dying" was literally only there for the sake of having a cliffhanger. To be fair, the people who died in DR2 weren't necessarily _dead,_ just in a vegetative state. (There was also DR2.5 which shows how Nagito, and by proxy, the rest of them got out, but I do understand that having to watch a random OVA just for a simple explanation isn't exactly a good thing, but it is nice that it exists at the very least) Plus, the cast being revived was hinted at at the end of the game. To directly quote the game itself: (sorry if it's too long, I just wanna make sure that I'm not taking anything out of context) Byakuya: Are they really going to be okay? Didn't they just turn back into Ultimate Despair? Makoto: I don't think...that's the case. I mean...if they did turn back, they wouldn't have said that they'd stay on this island. Kyoko: Perhaps they're thinking about helping their sleeping friends? Makoto: I can't really say for sure...but that's what I believe. Kyoko: Whether they know it or not...The fact that they're already clinging to that feeling shows that they're no longer who they were in the past. Byakuya: It seems that there are too many soft-hearted people here... Kyoko: But in reality...the possibility of those who are asleep waking up are close to zero. Makoto: No, the possibility isn't the problem. Even if there's the smallest possibility...they're still trying to create that future for themselves. In their eyes...that is the *future.* Byakuya: The smallest possibility...you might as well call it a miracle. Makoto: But strangely enough...I have a feeling that they might be able to reach it. They've accepted their hopes and their despair, and they're trying to create their own future. Maybe, for people like that, miracles are inevitable, don't you think? Also, consider that they have the combined bullsh--I mean, uh, _luck_ of Nagito and Hajizuru. (Shut up, I like that name) Nagito's luck is...pretty self-explanatory. And Hajizuru's been shown to have the same luck as Nagito in the Despair Arc. (I'm guessing that the Hope's Peak scientists injected him with liquidized four leaf clovers to get that effect?) And let's not forget that Hajizuru is...well, the closest thing to God in the DR universe, so (at least to me) him not being able to wake up a few comatose people would seem kinda weird. Also also, it's not like they get off scot-free. They lie to the world about being the masterminds behind the killing game and banish themselves to the real Jabberwock Island. They can never go back to their homes or families or the world in general. Essentially, they willingly trapped themselves, unable to rejoin society, left with nothing but themselves, their horrible pasts and the world's anger aimed straight at them. That's their punishment. And I think it's pretty fitting, honestly. The DR1 cast gets to live their lives with hope, while the DR2 cast gets to live their lives with despair.
The actual most despair inducing part of this comment is that all their parents are dead so they literally no family to go back to even if they could go back
Honestly, I kinda like to pretend that Danganronpa 3 doesn't exist, simply because of how bad it is and how non-sensical the plot can be at times even for Danganronpa standards. It did have this tho: "Kamukura, Kamukura Yas Queen!"
I love despair arc, mostly because of KAMAKURA KAMAKURA YAS QUEEN but I just liked happy fun times and then seeing the full explanation was pretty cool. But future arc is..... wait what's future arc?
I remember debating on if I should just stop watching Future Arc altogether and only watch Despair Arc. I ended up watching it anyway but I give it a thumbs down. I think Despair Arc made the Danganronpa 3 anime a lot better and enjoyable.
I also pretend dr3 animes don't exist, they were both so poorly executed and had really dumb plots. I mean Dr universe was always ridiculous in a fun way, but seeing exactly how Junko got the world to despair was something we shouldn't have seen (dr3 showed it in the most stupid and boring way ever)
I personally like the red blood, because it is the only killing game that doesn't involve Junko in the Hope's Peak universe. It works as a bit of foreshadowing towards this fact, since I was looking for how they were going to have Junko be responsible for the whole thing.
You call this foreshadowing, but I don't quite buy that at all. To me, it sounds like you're putting pieces together that the creators didn't even give. If I had to give a reason to why the blood was red, I'd just say the intention was tonal. They wanted the future arc to be brooding and edgy, and wanted it to juxtapose the despair arc's bubbliness. So red vs pink blood, easy contrast. The OP for each arc is just one example of how clearly they were meant to be foils, so I don't think it's much a stretch to say that's the reason behind the red blood.
...except the pink blood is just part of the overall aesthetic. Hell the pink blood is in V3, and Junko ain't in it! nor in Ultra despair girls, either, which ALSO had pink blood.
I’m actually kinda grateful for the DR fandom growing larger, but the fact that this leads to toxic people coming in is just- Though I haven’t found that much toxic stuff in my experience? Maybe because I usually don’t dig around a lot or anything but the fandom is meme hell pretty much
yeah the first game is like 10 years old the fandom will have toxic people in it. Though i haven't actually seen many toxic parts because i don't dig around.
I guess the shipping part of the fandom is toxic, but tbf that's true for any fandom. Other than people who are obsessed with Komaeda's sexuality, I haven't seen much toxicity either. For example, Spider-Man fans are way worse

The toxic part of the fandom are the kinnies and intense shippers. It's fine if you have ships and tell people about them but there's people who just have to hate every other one because they themselves don't ship it. Other than that it's just Tik Tok and a bunch of people on Twitter. Reddit and RU-vid are pretty chill.
Something that to this day I still feel was one of the worst creative decisions on the anime teams side was making the SDR2 kids fall into despair by being hypnotised. Up until that point Junko felt like such a immeasurable treat, she seemingly was able to send people in to the darkest parts of despair just by the way she interacted and exploited their vulnerabilities. (Like in another episode how she managed to manipulate the children into doing her dirty work even after she was gone) It was always implied to be the same for the sdr2 kids, with the way Komaeda idealised her and the ultimate trial to be overcome and lead to the ultimate hope. For Tsumiki it was having someone seemingly genuinely care for her for the first time in her life leading to her willing to do anything to please and not lose the affection of this one person who has made her believe no one but her will ever love her. But then the anime came along and just ruined that entire image. Suddenly Junko herself is not able to do anything to these students without the help of another ultimates skill and using hypnosis? It makes her seem so much less of a threat, anyone can hypnotise someone with a video tape someone else created after all. No longer did she represent the dark parts of mankind and brought them out of everyone. There were other bits in the anime which felt off to me but personally this right here, as a long time fan, completely put me off the entire anime and one of the main reasons I only consider the games to be truely canon!
it could've genuinely been so interesting to see the gradual corruption arc of all these characters but instead they spend like half the time on ooc caricaturised slice of life and then go "oops! all hypnotism" at the last second
When I played Danganronpa 2, I could genuinely understand how Junko was able to create the ultimate despairs, as at the time I had assumed she manipulated them rather than brainwashing. Her speeches about despair make you understand her, and if you were pretty negative, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd even side with her. So yeah, I was actually shocked that she just brainwashed them with chiaki's death(as if that counts as brainwashing) and now they're just like "oooo despair". It would've been so much better if we actually saw them being manipulated. I understand that the non-ultimates suicide were mainly done through brainwashing, as it'd be unrealistic to just convince 2K people to game end themselves (even though DG isn't a realistic series) but they did the ultimate despairs soooooo dirty in the anime, excluding the beginning.
As someone who's been in the fandom since 2015, the extreme surge in popularity from 2018-2020 has really made it go down the drain. I love the franchise, but it's getting almost as bad as the MHA fans.
As someone who has found the game this year, I can agree on that. The shipping wars and the romanticisim of the killing games scare me so much. While, I don't think there is something wrong with kinning a character, the obsession with the more complex or mentally unstable characters (Nagito and Kokichi) is scary in my opinion. Also, the fact that the fangirls make them out to be these "UwU gay bois who did nothing wrong OwO" is just disgusting and disrespectful both to the characters and LGBTQ+ community but I don't have a right to say anything on the behalf of the LGBTQ+ community as I'm not part of it but it seems disrespectful to me. Sorry, i went on a rant here, I just wanted to talk about the things I don't like about this fandom😅
As someone who joined the fandom in 2018, i have to agree. When i first joined, the fanbase was much more chill, but with the time i started to notice it was getting more toxic.

you may not have seen it if you entered the fandom in 2015, but back around 2013-2014 (when the only way to access english information about the games was a fan translated let's play on a pay-to-access web forum) there was rampant toxicity and elitism already spreading. that being said, i really haven't heard much from the fandom since the year v3 released, so i'm surprised to hear its still active and having issues.

I actually like danganronpa 3, especially despair arc. And openings of both arcs are just amazing and I adore them both. Future arc is kinda pointless to me, deaths do not affect you emotionally because you literally don't know anything about the characters, and it saddens me, these characters really had potential to be great and interesting, and their designs are mostly pretty great(that's why I made a lot of headcanons abot them to make them more interesting in my mind) And honestly plot is just kinda dumb, especially the solution with animation fixing everything. Why. Just why. Only moment I actually really liked was Naegi's dream about all his classmates that died, I like how they showed he is actually traumatized by this. This whole arc is just a big pointless wasted potential.

I can understand as I agree with that but I think the reason why they went with that plot was to match the Despair Arc. Because in it animation literally caused everything. Like Junko used Mitarai tricks to end the world, so they made it so Mitarai try to use his trick to fix the world. Plus in universe Makuto tell him that his won't work. And to be honest I'm not even sure if they did fix everything in the anime. They just stop Mitarai from going through with his plan and then try to fix the world by hand without his talent.
The Despair arc is a good idea but executed poorly like the death of a certain character turned everyone into ultimate despair was pretty stupid and the characters themselves really weren't as interesting they were in the game and that person who dies causing everyone to fall into despair didn't even have to be in the show because she wasn't supposed to be real. And I really never cared about the future arc so yeah.
Yeah the Future Arc wasn't great. So much stuff bothered me, especially the ending. Also the minute someone became interesting to me they just die immediately (Great Gozu)
Future Arc made me sometimes forget that it’s actually Danganronpa not gonna lie. Also. Red blood. That still bothers me since Pink Blood is the main thing in Danganronpa. And before you bring any excuses as to why we got red blood in future, that’s not gonna work, since in despair arc, we get reminded of how Chisa died in future arc *and the blood is pink when it was red in future arc* so there goes the consistency still. But, other than that, although I didn’t “like” Danganronpa 3, I liked Future WAAAAAAAAY more than Despair arc. (Especially the way they handled that fucking brainwashing thing. Future arc did it the way I was HOPING despair arc would do *aside from killing themselves* but they didn’t.)
You should absolutely play Ultra Despair Girls!! To me it feels like an important part of the overall story and world of Danganronpa and I could never imagine pushing it aside as "just some spin off" considering how enjoyable and good it was

Things that bothered me about the anime: - How anticlimactic the hypnotizing of the 77th class was, how they somehow couldn't do anything but watch chiaki fucking die. It would've been nice if they could have at least been able to put up a fight - How Tengan decided it was a good idea to make a killing game happen just to push Mitarai into using the video - The fact that Ruruka was mad at her friend for not being able to eat her sweets bc she would die. She's so childish why tf is she even in the future foundation - The way that Sakakura couldn't tell Munakata about Junko just because of the crush he had on him - How they handled Monaca's character - Saving Kyoko in the last second - Yasuhiro being left out. Although it was funny in the beginning they could've used the opportunity to make him more interesting In conclusion character motivations are all over the place, among other things

As I vaguely recall the term "Despair Sisters" being used for Junko + Mukuro as the two first members of the Ultimate Despair before the Danganronpa 2 cast.

There was ONE thing that I hated about the Despair arc tho, it was the fact that the "Talents" became more like SuperPowers. Like, Akane is the ultimate gymnast.... But that should not mean that she can jump from the roof of the Academy and be perfectly fine. And, more baffling, is when she fights with the Ultimate Team Manager... And they break the wall of the school, just out of colateral damages. Hell if that kind of stuff is possible, and apparently pretty well known since nobody bats an eye, then the first group could have just asked Sakura to punch through the walls to get out or something, she is the Ultimate Martial Artist after so it should be even easier for her... (Tho she probably wouldn't accept since there was the whole hostages situation, but still)
Love Danganronpa. Except for that weird sequel anime. They did my boy Juzo dirty. Also basically the entire cast was a literal waste of time for Future Arc.
Way too many POVs for such a short anime, plus they wanted to cram every possible game reference into the anime which makes me wonder who was their target audience? People who didn't play the games? That would've been confusing as hell.
Honestly, thinking of if it was a game instead of an anime, it could've given more time for each characters to shine and grow on to us. Or maybe just extend the episodes, it won't work with only the 12 episodes rule.
@@LatchinOn I think Danganronpa is one of the few examples of a story that can only be told through games. Though the Anime was doomed from the start if there are only 11-16 episodes per arc.
Unpopular opinion but Ultra Despair girls was the best Danganronpa game despite it not having class trials because you actually get to know the characters and see how they grow. But the rest doesn't show much lol because THEY ALL DIE

To be honest Monaca had a lot of potential I'm not saying kill her off or something just make her do something interesting it was clear in the battle itself if Monaca fought she would have won maybe after she won she exclaimed "Wow you guys are much then Monaca thought it seems so dull....." Then maybe make her give hope and Despair but stay on earth trying to stay hidden but eventually caught but since well ya know Makoto exists I feel like he would try to reform her and she would appear in the Hope Arc episode slightly looking upset because she doesn't want to deal with this shit. But she's a child and she just doesn't give a damn anymore so she just let's Makoto try and fail but since she is a child she won't get killed off and since Future Foundation has turned into a much more hopeful place I would think that they would try to make a literally recovery project and since Monaca doesn't give a damn she helps. You see where I'm going with this Monaca stays on earth but does not give a damn hope or Despair and is still angry at Makoto but she gets reunited with Komaeda in this sorta au lol. Hey, just want to point something out Hagakure had influence in chapter 1 of the original game, where his crystal ball was used for part of the crime, and also on the original game's trial 3, where he has framed as the main suspect. You may not like him as a character but you have to admit he has SOME importance, even if small. I respect your opinion tho.
Leon was the one who used it. That doesn't change anything. The 3rd trial in each game is the worst one for several reasons, mostly because they beat you over the head with who the culprit is during the investigation. All he did in Chapter 5 was waste time.
Monaca going to space because she is bored is actually a good choice. It shows how like she even more like Junko because Junko did most of her things because she was bored.
As much as I love Danganronpa. God the 5th chapter of the first game was horrible. I found it so boring. Besides that, it has the best characters and the most memorable too. The second game is pretty dope. Has the worst double murder out of the games though. Enjoyed the ending. Ultra Despair Girls....Hm...that was definitely the worst out of the games, still enjoyable though. But the Toko fantasies about Byakuya. That was cursed. V3. Honestly was really good. Best double murder. Chapter 4+ was really good. I hated the chapter 6 investigation, it got on my nerves, I think it was a decent ending. Plus Kokichi and Kaito were fantastic characters Danganronpa 3 was fine, Despair arc was better and the Hope episode was a nice ending for it. Future arc kinda sucked Killer Killer is most likely my least favourite thing in Danganronpa. It's a bit boring, still not bad though. The novels, Zero is really good and Danganronpa: Togami is... something....and I haven't read the other 3 Overall, good franchise. Fandom can be pretty shit. Not as bad as the MHA fandom or anything like that but still has its pretty shit side. ^^^^All my opinions Edit: Remember, everybody has their own opinions.
I really liked ultra despair girls but... Chapter 3 and that mini game with it's own specified game over. Urgh. (Funny because Kotoko Utsugi is one of my favorite characters but, gee that minigame was... Questionable.)
@@sajibprobably230 I'm pretty sure that was the point ultra despair girls had the darkest story out of any Danganronpa game mostly because it's dealing with the touchy subject of kids. That minigame was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable and gross because it's what happened to kotoko and the game wants you to feel that disgust and sympathy for her. Well that just what I think I guess.

I've always heard not so great things about DR3's anime and I was never invested enough in the franchise to watch it, so it was interesting to hear you go over it and explain it! Pretty sure the first anime was meant to get a new demographic of people to play the games, rather than be aimed to existing fans. I mean, it's bc of the anime that I played the games lmao. I even watched 3 before I played any of the games so I enjoyed it a lot and actually thought it plugged in all the story holes of 2 well while giving good closure.
i mean, the Remnents of Despair showing up is def unusual but also semi makes sense?? in the end of the second game it's said that there's a VERY VERY small chance for the "dead" ones to wake up again. As happy as I was to see them again and also canonically have all of them awake, it does take out some of the punch in the ending of the second game because "they're all technically still alive/awake-" Tho that Kirigiri one-
Kirigiri should've just stayed dead, them bringing her back to life felt....forced, it just gives off the vibe they didn't have the balls to kill off a major character.🤔

I think you're only looking into the toxic parts of the fandom. The ones that involve "lol Junko Enoshima is the mastermind" and other spoilers. I can think of at least 9 other fandoms including the Pokémon, Final Fantasy, Ace Attorney, and Sonic fandoms that are almost as bad as the DR fandom. Hell, I'd argue the fandom and games only gets a bad rep because of the obsessive fans. There are actually a lot of talented DR fans out there that make genuinely good fangames like SDRA2 for example. But I can't completely argue against you either. But honestly you could make most of the arguments about pretty much every fandom in existence. Just because a fandom isn't inherently toxic, doesn't mean there aren't toxic people in it. I still can't believe people hated V3's ending for being a stab at the obsessive fans who only care about the executions and don't care about the genuinely good characters within. Edit: Before anyone says "But you don't know the DR fanbase like I do! They're unpleasable as hell!" or "AA fanbase isn't toxic at all!" I'm well aware of that, but for the second point, there are people who hate Apollo Justice and beyond because Shu Takumi isn't the main writer/writer at all or Phoenix isn't the hero and go so far as to lambaste any protagonist that isn't Phoenix or Maya. Never mind the fact you play as Edgeworth and Mia in Trials and not ONE person complained! How is that NOT toxic?! This is kinda a month late but I just wanna say that I don’t think the dr2 cast coming back was a bad idea, in fact, I think it could have been a really great idea... if they had executed it right. (Spoilers Below) I find the entire concept of how Hajime could have brought everyone back intriguing, maybe they could have divulged into short segments of each person’s individual neo world program that their subconscious had created and had Hajime go through each one as world destroyer to break them out of it and bring them back to a peaceful awakening. Or maybe instead of making them completely forget about their memories, have them work together with each other to deal with the burden of their past actions and eventually move on together for the betterment of both themselves and humanity as a whole. There’s also the whole subject of how the murderers and victims would deal with each other and how they would have responded. Like I can see Mahiru being much more forgiving of Peko while Hiyoko would be very angry and hateful towards Mikan. There’s also how Nagito and the rest of the classmates (most notably Hajime) would have interacted with each other after everything he had done. I feel it would be satisfying to see Nagito work together with Hajime and the others to overcome things such as his dementia and cancer and become a welcomed part of the class. It’s things like that that could have made the dr2 cast coming back a very interesting and note worthy plot that just completely got thrown to the side with the anime. It will forever piss me off on how they halfassed it completely and was just like “lol everything’s fine now cause they’re awake lol” like really that’s not how people work!!
I was okay with the Future arc but hated the despair arc, and let's kill Chiaki and have her slip in her blood for one minute. Yeah the writers basically just lost all forms of humanity.
I like DR, and I like the content the fanbase/fandom creates, but... I wouldn't class myself as part of it anymore. I was there for a few months, and then left.
If you want a new fandom I recommend the world ends with you It’s basically Kingdom Hearts meets Persona meets Hot Topic with a dash of Jet Set Radio and Danganronpa for good measure

@@thejman5683 I honestly went back to Fire Emblem. I like the games I've seen playthroughs of and played, and despite one of my favourite Three Houses characters sharing a VA with three DR characters, I can think about her without them attached.
It wouldnt be as bad if they at least kept consistent with how junko told them "oh btw, all of your bodies were horribly mangled by your own hands, and some of you replaced parts of your body with my parts!" Instead nobody even has any scars, and theyre all cheery and happy as if they didnt regain memories of killing hundreds of people. The only people with lasting injuries are nagito because his arm was already canon and fuyuhiko because his eyepatch was iconic
Because it cheapens the impact that their deaths had on players in the second game. It makes it so the events of the second game are just completely pointless.

About Izayoi and Ruruka's relationship, I'm not sure how canon this is, but I always assumed that since Ruruka's sweets are mind-control drugs... somehow, they weren't actually in love, and Ruruka was always giving him candy to keep him loving her, which is why she grew paranoid when he stopped taking them as soon as the killing game started. Still a stupid character and motivation, but at the very least it shifts the blame of their bland relationship to Ruruka
No, she grew paranoid because she thinks she is worth nothing if people around her can't eat her sweets, because it's the only thing she can do well in her mind. Which is why she and Seiko could never be friends, too. It's kind of her biggest flaw. She underestimated Izayoi's love for her too, because her lack of self-confidence is just too much of a thing. It lines up well with her bully-ish behavior as well, as most bullies have self-confidence issues.
The parts of the Future arc that I did like was exploring Makotos survivors guilt, and the Ultimate Despairs scene. Everything else was serviceable to get to those scenes
Man, watching DR3 when it was still coming out was an experience. It was really fun watching people predict everything while getting riled up over the lackluster everything.

Everyone is talking about their opinions on the actual topic at hand while i'm over here totally freaking out, since JS is one of my favorite content creators and Danganronpa is one of my favorite game series, despite how weird the fandom may be.
Personally, I would say that my main criticism would be that the whole brainwashing thing was too easy. Having played the first 2 games before watching the anime I was really curious to see how Junko manipulated everyone into giving up to despair. Clearly all the execution she prepares in the games are about turning someone ultimate talent against them. Instead we just get "I have a video/brain operation that magically and instantly changes all your personality".
When the remnants of despair came back, it should have just been the survivors. They could have had the ones who died in the simulation still asleep. That way the audience could have come to their own conclusion as to what would become of them.
I mean, given School-Live!'s twist, if the episodes were good, combined with some case file anime, I can see why they put them in charge of the show, even if it didn't work out in the end. (Be cool if he watched some School-Live! though)
Alright... this is gonna be a very controversial opinion, but junko enoshima is lowkey the most overrated character in the series. She is honestly overhyped and it gets very annoying. (I also hate how her movement for causing everything was because she was bored... and because that she was the ultimate despair... sorry but that’s just stupid, I’m my opinion.)
I love this game, its great. But the fandom? *OH BOY* ive only played the first game and i already know the plot of the other games just because of the fandom, and it pisses me off tbh
Also I feel like the reason the class fell into despair JUST because of Chiaki's death was not only because she was their hope and close friend, it was mainly they fell into a trap that led her to be killed. They could've prevented it. If they listened to Chisa or even Nagito, all of this could've been avoided. But no. They got someone innocently killed. And the weight of that burden made them fall into despair.
Even so, it is absurd that everyone goes crazy and wants to destroy the world just because, especially Fuyuhiko and Peko who should not be affected so much by the death of a "partner X", more if chapters ago Sato was in charge of this murder his sister, and that is another thing, that fuyuhiko will not go into despair over the death of her beloved sister, but for that of a partner with whom she did not even interact. What a stupid thing
Its still dumb. I was expecting the anime to be them slowly being charmed and manipulated by junko as she preys on their various insecurities and emotional hangups. Junkos supposed to be charismatic and super analytical, and literally every dr2 character has some sort of emotional issues due to their backstories

It was always stupid and petty of the Animators to want Sayaka and Leon killed off just because they were drawn the most in promo art. Hagakure was blatantly made to be a throwaway character who went absolutely nowhere. The Imposter and Rantaro actually had the interest of the other characters.

About Monaca it was due to The Servant's insanity, I mean, since what Nagito Komaeda appreciated the most was hope, Junko used that by molding him into something that would serve him, letting The Servant's mentality become a constant contradiction, and Due to this, it caused Monaca to lose all sense of despair or hope (since after being saved by him, he decided to "take care of" her, putting his ideals to the point of overwhelming her, basically making her lose all desire on both sides, since she decided that didn't want to be like him]).
I've always described the Danganronpa fandom as having three sections: 1) toxic af, will spoil everything they can and scream at people who don't agree with their opinions, 2) insane af, try to channel chaos itself and just kinda want to be (and or do) Nagito or Kokichi 3) a little insane/love some insane characters, but really nice to newcomers and supportive of them exploring and getting to know the characters by themselves. Guess which one is the minority 👀
I've definitely seen some 1 and 2 in the DR fandom, plenty of it. And that's why I sometimes question telling others that my favorite character is Nagito, so I don't get lumped together with 2.

A lot of people just look at my fondness for him and think I like him just cause he's "crazy"

Honestly I am fine that DR2 people came back, actually they explained HOW they came back in DR2.5 and well DR2 as well. What I am more upset about, is that the bodies of the DR2 irl weren't fucked up. People who have fallen into despair were known to mutilate and well skin themselves alive, I wanted to see fucked up shit like that. Think like the Justice League Dark Apokolips War, where beloved heros are turned into monstrous mechanical heros
man, danganronpas games and the concept has to be my favorites, its really unique in its own ways and different from other games, but the fandom is TRASH. at this point im only still here for the characters and drawimg fanart of them. its so toxic here and everyone just kinda forgot the game itself and focused on ships and sexuality/gender identity headcannons (which is fine if you do!!!) and its caused SO much drama, and don't even get me started on dr twitter and cancelling people. I really just hate it here man i just am here for the characters and plot and thats it
I love Danganronpa with the characters, the plot, and shipping(and don't worry, im not one of the hardcore shippers to the point where it's the only thing I focus on), but since it's gotten toxic, I don't like to express my shipping thoughts or my thoughts on characters and plot due to ppl making me feel like I'M the toxic one.
As someone that followed the series when it was being published, don't worry. Everyone HATED the Hope Arc. Also, about the Kirigiri reviving stuff, the english dubbing had a joke in it. Her last line being something like " Naegi we're waiting for you" or whatever, the voice actress line they put in was "Yeah I don't know either, pretty sure I died." It stayed for like an hour before being removed and replaced by the correct line.
I hate the amount of fanservice, ESPECIALLY on the abused characters (Mikan, Akane, Kotoko, Korekiyo in a way, Kibo wasn't ABUSED but I still hate what they did with him and Miu)
Surprisingly Danganronpa the animation was what introduced me into Danganronpa and helping me figure out whatever the hell my friend was talking about 😌
There’s also a Danganronpa 2.5 anime (which is only one episode) that follows Nagito as an example of how they bring them all out of the comas, so it really isn’t all that random that they all came back.
Yes, they were all alive in the end of the game, it was just left up in the air whether they could restore them, or in junkos words remains as vegetables the rest of their lives.
No, it was stated they would be vegetables. Their options were to either return to the real world via shutting the program down, but in doing so they would have to live with their self-mutilations and the fact that everyone who died would be a veggie. The other option was to stay in the game and have AI Junko “revive” everyone.
I’m late to this but it’s even worse when you realize that the reason the blood was red in future arc is to make you think a character dies and that’s the only reason
It also makes zero sense that the whole point of the killing game was to get Mitarai to use his Hope animation thingy but then Tengan gave him "Use your ability" as the forbidden action. How does that make sense? He could have died multiple times until he would have been able to use it.
I think it was a MGsolid kind of plan (which is kinda stupid in general like "i need you to use those key cards to activate the giant robot! So i will obstacolate you with all my soldiers and high tier henchmen in order to trick you! ). Basically force him to don't use his "hope" video until the end of the game, so he will lose any form of trust in mankind and end up releasing the Hope video worldwide, in order to generate a forcefull false hope that will lend to the ultimate TRAGEDY.
I wanted Kyoko to come back to life but not because I thought that would be best, but simply because I want nothing in this anime to matter to the overall plot so I can pretend it isn't canon
Thank god someone talks about how bad DR3 was. Im pretty sure Kodaka said it wasn’t even canon and when put into perspective of udg and dr zero it literally makes no sense. Everytime i tell people dr3 is contradictory, the fandom eats me alive. I really liked Danganronpa but the fandom jesus,,,

9:05 School-live is genuinely a good show, if a bit tedious at times. It’s about these highschool girls (and a dog!) surviving a zombie apocalypse. It’s very cutesy but also dark.
(SPOILERS AHEAD) I always felt that at the end DR2 that they could all come back to life. Since it was revealed to be a simulation the whole time, I always felt that they never really died and Hajime's speech at the end even implies that his next step was to restart the simulation and go from there. I think bringing them all back also feels thematically correct if Junko's final plans were ultimately undone by her greatest creations. Seeing Hajime fulfill his purpose in bringing an end to her despair would be a further build upon his character arc in 2. Sadly the set up for the killing game didn't really involve Junko at all so bringing the cast back was ultimately pointless outside of brownie points.
If only Hagakure had been swapped for someone else who died but managed to sneak their way back to the present world. Sakura and Celestia could have gotten more Character development and this would be perfect for them or any other THH character who could've gotten more development.

I’d only watch Danganronpa 3’s Despair Arc. Because it’s interesting watching Junko Enoshima in something more than just being in the final chapter of both games.
