yeah, you can if you'd like to. It's all about what works best for you. The setup we recommend is just based on our own experience and what we think is best, but everyone has their own workflow, and you can certainly plug in any analog source into the analog input of the D-Box

Hello, I am a blind engineer. I have this actual machine, I am able to sum with channels 5/6 and 7/8, but for some reason one, two and three, four I cannot do any type of summon? I am using the Apollo X8 and the latest protools perhaps you can give me an idea what’s going on, also I will be getting a knee 1073 preamp and a WA one B compressor and would love to know how to sum with analog gear any help is much appreciated

You need a preamp to go in between your DI Box and your A/D converters. A DI Box brings an instrument signal down to mic level so that it can be run through a mic pre. Most interfaces have both preamps and A/D converters built in, so if you don't already have an interface there are plenty of options

The Analog input doesn't get summed with the Summing Inputs. It is a totally separate path. When listening to it, it is only going to your speakers, and not getting added to your mix.

There are lots of different choices for interfaces. You can use any interface that has 8 analog outputs and either a SPDIF or AES output.

I don't think this will work, only because the adat coming out of the ssl is multichannel. In order to use an adat to spdif converter you need stereo adat (toslink) which is a different format from multichannel adat

So here's my question. I have the dbox. And l love it to death because it gets me almost everything i need out of my sound. now my question is. I have been bouncing back into protools with the live feed from the dbox. For a more solid sound i was thinking of getting a masterlink. would an alesis masterlink improve my sound q or should i go with another type of compressor for a solid mix/master.

i have dbox for few months now, i love it! i upgraded my converters to ssl alphalink ax i wonder if there's a way to use adat outs (with adat to spdif converter) to use dbox converter
