Dangerous North Pole Expedition (2010)
Director: Sebastian Copeland
Writers: Sebastian Copeland
Stars: Sebastian Copeland, Keith Heger
Genre: Documentary, Action, Adventure, News, Sport
Country: United States

Also Known As: Into the Cold: A Journey of the Soul
Release Date: April 2010 (United States)
Synopsis:
Into The Cold--A Journey of the Soul retraces the personal and harrowing expedition of two men on foot to the North Pole in sub-zero temperatures to commemorate the centennial of Admiral Peary's reach in 1909. It is a journey of endurance and commitment into the depth of the soul against the backdrop of the magnificent, unforgiving and rapidly vanishing Great North.
Reviews:
"For over 90 minutes Sebastian Copeland takes us step-by-step on a fascinating and dangerous trip to the North Pole. Two men, on skis, brave incredible odds to do what few people have done before.
The most important message to us all is the ecological one: and this is rightly and forcibly impressed upon us throughout the film. It's easy to sit back in an armchair in - for example - Glen Cove, New York, and decree that the film has "way too much talk about climate change"!! It's never "enough" to "drone on" about the appalling state of the earth that this generation is going to leave for the next ones! And how many people almost risk their lives to impress this upon us?
The film is beautifully shot and the narration takes us from the beginning germ of an idea in Copeland's head, to his meeting, much later on, with Keith Heger, his companion on the trek, and the many agonizing days and nights they risk in order to reach their goal.
I cannot urge you enough to see this film. Show it to your kids! Not for one minute does one get bored with the fascinating account of what goes on in Copeland's head as he endures an eerie silence day after day, only broken by the scrape of skis on brittle snow. It is truly a wonderful opportunity that Copeland has given to us to share in this exciting adventure: one that we were actually able to follow on a daily basis exactly a year ago on his Face Book blog as the trek progressed --- from our armchairs all over the world."

Brilliant. When solid ice floats on water it’s already displacing it’s mass, weirdly, when it melts it’s volume becomes less...so floating ice sheets don’t make water levels rise when they melt...physics is wonderful and wierd, just like our amazing planet...

No maps/globes show any ice at the north pole in general.

@@davebritton7648 That's true too. Many forget this too when discussing these details.

Very enjoyable film, but why do they claim Peary reached the North Pole when it is well understood he didn’t? It gives the impression they are more interested in creating an attractive story than sticking with the truth.

The guitar bit at 23:00 & 26:00 in background is loosely based on or very very similar to something by pink floyd (or could be solo stuff by David gilmour their guitarist). I’m not up on all the re mixes or countless live shows or re issues but their last official album “ the endless river “ which is mainly vocal free I reckon you’d appreciate if this particular bit has your ears & soul going 😁👍

Many disputed that Peary ever reached the pole.

He went a lot to Ellesmere Island so it's likely where he went and he or elites claimed it was the north pole. Greenland is a more distant possibility.

Well, you claim that you're on a mission to protect Antarctica and to show people, what we'll be missing in a couple years, should we not protect it. At the same time you're kind of dismissing vegetarians and belittle them, while living vegetarian/vegan is one of the easiest way to combat climate change. Flashy images might leave more of an impact on some people, but your small day to fay actions will count more in the long run. That being said I still appreciate your effort.
