Lintir I agree, not everyone’s parents treat them like this. You don’t know what it’s like on the other side of the fence. My mom physically abused me when I was little and I have since forgiven her when I was a teen. Problem is my dad has also abused and said all kinds of evil things to me, things I don’t want to even repeat. It’s taken a long time for me to forgive him because even though he doesn’t say those things to me anymore. He’s never once apologized, just tries to sweep it under the rug (he may have apologized once when I was really little). Same narcissistic and inconsiderate personality from when I was a child. Whatever he says goes even after all these years, I honestly don’t know why my mom puts up with it. I love both my parents to an extent but sadly I don’t know if I can say love them (or at least him) unconditionally.

@jamiesvids this IS true. I knew the father and the family, I met them in 2011 so... 4 years after this incident. I was friends with a young couple and the guys mother was dating Mark and a year or so later they were engaged, that is how I knew the family. I met Mark on a few occasions and at the time he was still in the process of having a series of reconstructive surgeries. In 2012 Mark was about to have his jaw wired shut so I remember he was trying to gain enough weight to have this done. I didn't really talk to Mark or his daughter about the incident or Daniel. The couple I was then close friends with told me all about it. TBH, the family was a little odd. So was the couple I was friends with. Quite fundamentally Christian. What I know is, at the time of the shooting, Daniel had injured his back and was basically in a lot of constant pain and so he stayed in his room playing video games and... unsurprisingly from knowing this family they wanted to filter what he could and couldn't play. He was isolating himself and I guess he got ahold of Halo and was constantly playing it and when they took it away, he got upset. He got a hold of a gun and walked into where his mom and dad were and said "close your eyes guys I have a surprise for you" and then proceeded to shoot them and staged it to look like a murder suicide. Well, fast forward to when I knew the family. The couple I was friends with, like I said the whole family was strange to me. They whole heartedly blame the video game and think the game is to blame and they believe he has remorse, has found Jesus and believe the earth is 5,000 years old etc. And... they want him released early. They're all about god and Jesus and... to an extent I understand from Marks point of view, he has unconditional love for his son but... my argument when I knew them was that if he is TRULY remorseful, he will take accountability for his actions and not be trying to get released early. I think if Mark truly believed in justice and held his son accountable, he would be doing the same. I do NOT believe he is remorseful, I think he's sorry he got caught, I think he is a sociopath and sociopaths manipulate and are very good at telling people what they want to hear... and I am a psychiatric nurse. I have encountered a number of sociopaths. I know damn well how manipulative and genuine they may seem. I personally think he should be locked up and the key thrown away. But anyone related to him seems to think that he was "possessed" by the video game. Whatever.

He's not going to go free in 10 years, though. He's eligible for parole in 10 years, meaning he has to be interviewed by a board of people at a parole hearing for them to determine if he's rehabilitated or not. If they don't, than he has to wait another few years in prison and Even if they agree that he's rehabilitated, he's still not truly free once he's on the outside. He'll have a parole officer that he has to check in with and less freedom than your average citizen.
