Aside from the aesthetics of the structures and armors, the thing that always really did it for me are the lighting and dark contrasting shadows casted on everything. It sets a very distinct mood and atmosphere.
The smudgy bloom created from light hitting metal and bleeding out, the film grain lighting a quiet sunset and dark floor, the almost reddish hue the camera would give the skin of the actors sometimes, the stings of music in rather quiet scenes to create some mood or tension and the blue rimlighting.
I like to make up my own stories for the characters in these videos, a lot like how FromSoft would tie everyone together in the darkness of their world. An endless dream.
None of you here know your shit (Sorry for being rude). They are four King's FIeld games. KI 1 (1994), KI 2 (1995), KI 3 (1996) and KI 4 aka the only KI 4 game that the fromsoftware fanbase know (For some reason). OP comment is a little dumb (Apologies for the rude words but i must tell what i think). Souls series is a spiritual successor to King's Field. Uses almost the same design philosophy. One is in first person and its clunky, while the other is in third. Souls series is the KING'S FIELDs you want. If you are not satisfied. The first person mods for the Souls games exist. But they suck.
i would love to see pictures in that dark-eighties style as seen in the video for other fantasy franchises , like Zelda , Castlevania, Elder Scrolls and Warcraft
Come to me Nerevar, through fire and war. Come Moon and Star, come and look upon the Heart. Phase 1 : Dagoth Ur, bane of the tribunal Phase 2 : Dagoth Ur, fool idol Final phase : Dagoth Ur, false dreamer
God I wish people were still making movies that look sort of like this. Conquest, Willow, Conan - hell, even Deathstalker! There's something so charming to these aesthetics. That said, for such visuals to work in movies you need an audience that watches them with the right mindset - that you need to fill in whatever the film can only suggest on your own. Viewer imagination as opposed to mind melting CGI exuberance. I'd argue that modern mainstream movies are conditioning audiences to no longer be capable of that.
@@jasonhemphill6980 there are a bunch of good movies coming out u just have to look. Most of the famous movie’s people talk about didn’t start out famous. Mainstream has always been like this we’re just starting to notice more
Dont appeal to normies, and big corporations need big money, specially of they invested in buying IPs. Therefore they would tone it down to Teen or even E, and of course: woke.
Absolutely fucking not. And my ass Batman and Batman Returns suck. They're the best Batman movies to date, minus Dark Knight. Get some taste, shitlips.
Was not alive in the 80s but I still can't get over how awesome the combo of the art/retro music just captures the imagination. I wish we could have a practical effects fantasy movie like this.
I've noticed something and nobody seems to point that out. All of these videos have monsters and fantasy elements that are made to resemble practical effects that don't look real. This seems to be one of the biggest differences between the old movies and modern day blockbusters. CGI always strives to be the most realistic it can and often lands in the uncanny valley but the practical effects are taken straight out of a stage play and everyone is aware of that. It's interesting that all new movies decided to fool the audience as much as they can. The props make it way more fun for me, I know it's just a movie made to entertain and it's honest about it.
Pretty much yes. Same thing goes for action scenes really which were more slow and choreographed like Conan unlike say Legolas in The hobbit. Souls games kinda started like this were your character still felt human, but lately even from soft is increasing power levels. Fantasy can be as bullshit as it likes, depends on genre, but classic fantasy looks better when people are not flipping around like in an anime. It makes ogres, cyclops, dragons more fearsome if all you have is human capabilities.
I preferred animatronics and puppets to CGI as well. CGI has come a long way in the last couple of years though. Some times it's still garbage, but other times you can nearly not even tell with the tech their using now.
I disagree. To me CGI and practical effects don't overwrite the usefulness of the other. One isn't inherently better than the other. It depends on many things. Practical effects aren't always "practical" and as much as I also like them, they can ruin a movie just as much if not more than CGI if used poorly.
@@lethauntic I'm not sure if you are replying to me or some other subcomment but I didn't mean to say that CGI is useless. I just wanted to say that modern movies focus so much on how to make everything as realistic as possible with CGI and maybe some of them would benefit from that playfulness that practical effects often deliver. It seems to be mostly forgotten about, I'm not that much into modern fantasy movies so maybe I'm wrong and they are still used.
Shivers down my spine is the level we're at here. And thanks for letting me know that King's Field had synth music. They don't make them like that anymore.
Okay these ai generated dark fantasy movie from the 80's are multiplying like wildfire. But it would take a miracle for either movies or videogames to emulate this style. The matte paintings in fantasy old movies were always particularly beautiful.
I gotta be honest, I fell in love to this aethetics you made. The sensible feeling of cinema practical effects and the realism aspect this gives to audience. I fall in love too easily with the old cinema industry.
It has a feeling to it. Its like being a child again and seeing fantasystuff for the first time. These armours are so well done... By the AI. and thats the other thing that kinda is hard on me. An AI can make better design decisions then todays designers. Fuck it.
@@Selendeki yea i know it takes reference from pre existing work. but like, where does it end i wonder. next thing you know they do ai generated films, then 3d renderering then 3d print those thing. the application is endless it seems
There's somthing about the AI semi-random, unsettling juxtaposition of elements (6 or 7 fingers per hand?!) that is PERFECT for the Dark Souls-Bloodborn setting. Damn, a film like this would be a masterpiece
I am now waiting for the fans to use all the new fancy AI tools to make a fully animated and voiced Elder Ring movie. And WE ALL know it will be done, will just take some years…or months
I can’t get enough of the lighting and shadow contrast in these 80s AI reimagining videos. I hope they’re stirring up the same feelings in alot of people and we start seeing more films looking like this again. Feels like a dream.
Could you share which ai you used and what prompts you used to generate these? I’ve been trying to replicate the “feeling” of these images but can’t seem to get them to match.
The way its emulating like a specific type of film color grading and contrast just blows my mind. Like the highlights in some shots have this overblown blurred greenish tint, as if its like clipping and being brought down by the low contrast and black levels. Its just fantastic. Hard look to recreate! I love it and im jealous. AI art usually bothers me but this is a great use of it
2:36 Macaulay Culkin as a young Gherman, alongside the Doll in a Hunter's Dream. It's not EXACTLY like our timeline's Bloodborne, but I guess in 80s it had too vague graphics to say it's "visually too different" from something that most likely was an ASCII RPG in its own parallel universe
Bloodborn (1983) Directed by John Kienziak The year is 1917. The city of Yharnam is a beautiful city, known for its architecture and its advancement in technology. But by night, demons roam the streets. A group of people, only known as The Hunters Call, roam the night and underground, and hunt down those who wish to do harm. One Hunter, named Eirman has to team with other Hunters to take down a cult known as "The Choir", before they can wreak havoc onto Yharnam by turning people into monsters. Souls of Demons (1987) Directed by John Kienziak A world thrown into Chaos. A king broke a divide between the spirit world and the living, giving him power beyond our understanding. A Knight named Farborne, was sent to a realm of spirits after his death, called "The Nexus", a bridgeway between the dead and living world. Using portals that give him manifestation and motivated by his late wife's spirit, he must travel back to the land of the living and get stronger, and take down the corrupted king, restore peace to the land and put the dead and himself to rest.
Goddamn the AI hit the nail on the coffin with the 80's to think this lost art would come back by AI. Just think if AI could do this in 3D space moders could put these works of art into games.
@@Red_Eyed There is several vids like this with the same style to it. If someone would create a movie series. Better yet a internet series independent of major companies they would break away from the grip of Hollywood and become legend. This my friend is a new era and a reach back into the sword and scorcry films we love. DUDE CONAN THE KING..🤯😳😁
@@criert135 Preach. All this used to be a frequent thing, people. Studios just chose to stop making films like this. Look up stuff like Conquest or the more low-brow Deathstalker for examples. Or hell, Conan too, I guess.
Conan the Barbarian 1 & 2 Legend Excalibur Never ending story Labyrinthe Krull Dragon Slayer Time Bandits Dark Crystal Ladyhawke Highlander Beastmaster Willow Dream child Masters of the Universe Princess Bride I haven't watched all of these movies, but all of them have that 80s retro fantasy aesthetic for sure!
Does anybody know what the second image is supposed to represent? I find myself enchanted by it… actually, does anybody know if these images are representing actual content from the game or if they’re just based on it? I found some other videos that had a list of names for the pictures… By the way, awesome job. This content is now my newest of addictions hahahaha
