Souls - Mighty Weapons of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and associated From Soft Games
It's important to point out - this isn't a top 10 and we're not talking (for the most part) about in-game strength of these weapons. I thought it'd be fun to talk about some of the most famous/storied weapons of the Souls franchise. Obviously I didn't cover all of the weapons that have a storied history in the franchise - what are some of your favourites?
Something RIGHT on the cusp of being included? The "great knight hammers" (Bramd, Grant, Sacred Chime, Eygon's hammer etc) I decided to cut it, as although it's arguably more "famous" / storied than the Butcher's Knife, I felt that one was a more interesting choice.

My personal favourite weapon is Ludwig's holy blade, its interesting as it is theoretically a physical copy of Ludwig's Moonlight Sword but because the magic could not be replicated it instead made use of a large bladed sheath to mimic the design of the original sword, although a distant copy of the moonlight sword its different enough to be an awesome weapon alone.

hmmm.... No Channelers Trident. While ornamental in its appearance and goofy in its move set, it has a sort of lasting appeal that has captivated players enough to be put into multiple versions of the game. A bizarre lore for a bizarre weapon.

I've always liked acrobatic weapons Farron Greatsword, wolf knight greatsword, Gaels greatsword. They're all very fun to use in the game

King Fancy Same, the Old Wolf Curved Sword, the Thrall Axe and Freide's Greatscythe as well, its really fun to have weapons that support your movement and positioning

Silver Mont with those kind of acrobatic weapons timing is EVERYTHING if you use it in the middle of and enemies attack you'll probably get hit but if you use the right after an attack then they work pretty well

There's quite a few things that in surprised didn't make an appearance. Smough's hammer, the Astora Straightsword, Sunlight Straightsword, Sanctus, Grandt, The Gravelord Weapons, or any of the weapons mentioned to use lifehunt.

A weapon I'd like to throw into this conversation of powerful lore weapons would be the Lifehunt Scythe, but more specifically because it's -top waifu Priscilla's weapon- the most prominent of whatever 'lifehunt' is in the games. _"Even the Gods feared Priscilla's lifehunt ability"_ Kind of got sad when I read the description when you stated that the great knight hammers won't be included, but at least the SCH was part of the vid

I didn't use many different weapons in Demon's Souls, it mostly came down to the Crescent Falchion and sorcery. In Dark Souls, I primarily used the Pyromancy Flame, the Lifehunt Scythe and Quelaag's Furysword. In DS2, it was the Greatsword, the Club, the Large Club and the two Smelter Demon Greatswords. In DS3, I used a chaos-infused or lighing-infused Longsword, Friede's Great Scythe, the Pyromancy Flame, the Dragonslayer Swordspear and the Firelink Greatsword. I used the Tonitrus, the Hunter's Axe and the Holy Moonlight Sword in Bloodborne. Add Augur of Ebrietas and the Hunter Pistol as my main parrying tools and Executioner's Gloves and A Call Beyond to damage certain bosses in the more difficult Chalice Dungeons.

I usually go with great swords. So in dark souls 3 I went with the claymore for most of the game. It really helped me in the pvp scene as I try to out reach and dodge my opponents. And really ruins turtlers. But then I got my hands on gael's greats sword. With a more offensive weapon art, similar move set. Longer reach and strike damage. I was most happy with it.

The Greatsword of Artorias (720 AR) is the second highest in Dark 1, the Grant (wielded by Paladin Leeroy) has an AR of 779 with 99 in all stats. Either way, amazing vid showcasing that there's so many cool weapons in Souls games

While no weapon to scoff at the Mirrah Greatsword is just as it's name implies. A greatsword from Mirrah. Compared to the weapons of gods and legends it's little more than a simple blade. Think of it like the sunlight straight sword of the greatsword class. With nothing special about it all it is in reality is a beautifully well crafted sword wielded by an even better swordsman

That is a fair point and should be enough to satisfy most people. (heck I'm more or less bought over in it's lothric entrance) But here's my argument for that is by how the blades are born. Lucatiel (and by extension us) got it from a blacksmith blah blah there's little to talk about it and that's where I mainly took my side from. As that's all it was Hollowslayer however wasn't blacksmith made. We got it from the soul of the cursed rotten greatwood and all the fears/curses that the hollows/undead gave was manifested into the blade. Not just Lucatiel's, but she was the first of many (likely why it manifested itself as the Mirrah greatsword) Although I admit to the fact that they should have at least taken the butcher's knife position and that the hollowslayer/Mirrah GS is truly it's own beautifully tragic legend that will hardly be remembered by the masses.

When you think about it, Gael has taken much from other sources in the Dark Souls franchise, and it makes sense, considering he's been around for so long. Artorias has one flip attack in his boss right that Gael's blade of peril technique takes striking resemblance from, regardless he's put his own unique spin on it. And his repeating crossbow, he likely heard of tales of the beautiful Avelyn that shot multiple boots from its chambers. So, while in the Ringed City he found a normal light crossbow and tweaked and forged it to add an auto-firing mechanism, again taking after the Avelyn with his own unique spin.

5:42 Probably because the Abyss Watchers pay homage not only to Artorias, but as an undead legion in modern day _friendship forest,_ to the chosen undead players as well, Darkroot Garden's native parry kings who emphasize dexterity and sided with Alvina's covenant for the competition and camaraderie of it; a striking point of nostalgia for DkS1 players. They are not just _his_ legacy, but also _ours._ Many who encountered Artorias' tragic tale would want to honor him and Sif.

I like the Blue Flame and Irythil Long Sword, simple yet elegant designs. And from a gameplay perspective, the Blue Flame is my go to, a spellsword's best friend with no real equivalent in the series :3 Quelaag's Fury and the Gravelord's Great Sword have been my faithful companions in DS1, again great designs. Fond memories of dual-wielding Scorpid Sting + Mythra's Dagger, too. Speaking of toxic daggers, Ciaran's dual blades was a very cool idea and design, I'm very sad they haven't made it to DS2 or DS3 along with the armor set T_T

It should also be noted that the Moonlight also appears in other From Soft games as well, most notably Armored Core (aka Dark Souls with giant robots) where it is usually the most powerful energy blade that can be acquired in the game.

The Ricard Rapier is a personal favorite, the Hollowslayer Greatsword/ Mirrah greatsword is another personal favorite and the old whip from dark souls 2....hmm two are deadly to any undead the other....i like it because it's a nice looking rapier.

I kinda have a (thematic) theory the Abyss Watchers are a sick perversion of Artorius. They fight in very similar styles, are found heavily damaged (being stabbed in the gut as in the cutscene), have a red and silver color scheme which is in contrast to Artorius' blue and black, use parries while Artorious used a shield. Along with showing up in the area where the Artorious convent is, at least thematically speaking (lore could shred this up tbh) i think it could be argued that they are foil to Artorious. I understand I'm probably way off the mark, yet, I personally adore the idea.

The bastard sword is one of my favorite reoccurring weapons. Not overly flashy but great on crowd control and two handed keeps most enemies staggered enough to kill. But Quellag's fury sword might be my favorite; it's just so nasty

A personal favorite is the zwei. The only normal UGS in DeS And the first UGS in ds1 I like to think everyone has an old reliable in the souls games, it might not even be their favorite, but for me, the ol two hander always had my back since the beginning.

The Dancers Twinblades are not to be taken directly, even tought their AR is high, as the best weapon, because you could only add either the firedamage or the magic damage, because you dont do both damages with one blade. So it would be probabply the Firedamage that is higher(because of dobblescaling in INT and FAITH).

I've always liked the stake driver in bloodborne. People tend to think that it only has one attack, but it's moveset is all-around well suited to the game. The normal attacks are fast, and have enough hitstun to be meaningful on enemies that don't get stunlocked by weapons such as the blade of mercy, and it has good damage per hit. Plus it's the best fist weapon in souls. Also, the avelin is actually a top-tier pvp choice in dark souls 3, when used with explosive bolts and paired with an estoc in the right hand

I think the reason the abyss watchers use a parrying dagger on the left hand is because it is used as a fulcrum for all their acrobatic attacks. It is said in the farron greatsword description.

For all the legendary weapons in Souls games, my signature weapon's always been the Falchion and Flamberge for all games. Sad that I never found the Falchion in Dark Souls 3, but I did get the Flamberge for 90% of the game. A shame I had to replace it with Farron's GS for Midir, and Irithyll Rapier for most of the final bosses weak to thrust/frost.

My two faveorites are the silver knight spear and the Black knight halberd. I was geartbroken when they left my beautiful silver companion out of DS3. They even gave it to the knights without letting it drop.

Artorias was left handed - he had to wield his sword in his right arm because his sword arm was broken. He gave up his shield to protect Sif from the Abyss.

Artorias' sword-arm was his left, so when his left arm was shattered he had to switch to wielding his sword in his right and ended up leaving his shield behind to safeguard Sif before he would go on to fight Manus alone (and fail). That's why one (or more) of the variants of his sword (I dont remember which) has a different attack set when the player character wields it in their left hand. I'm Left-handed, so I relate to and remember other Lefties in video games, movies, books, etc.

If you want a character who is actually left-handed in-game and not in fan theories, then you've got the Ivory King. Who also actually achieved something, unlike Artorias.

Raime was (most likely) Left-handed too, the Majestic Greatsword description alludes to it. He also favors his left when you fight him 2nd stage especially

gameplay aside the design of the dragonslayer spear is actually pretty versatile, the spearhead for thrusting and the handles beneath it can double as a hammer head (and in a sense used agains armored foes do deal blunt damage), and i can think of a million move that it can do

The Black Phantom in Demons Souls World 5-2 also carries the meat cleaver and she resembles Maneater Mildred and stalks the swamp. Maneater Mildred is a direct reference to that Phantom and was put in Dark Souls for comic relief I think.

I think there's an interesting parallel with the Northern Regalia and the Twin Princes' Greatsword. They're certainly different weapons, but they're both formed from a pair of swords, one holy and one heretical, and if you look at their crossguards they're both unconventional triangular shapes, with the Regalia's pointing away from the wielder's hand and the Greatsword's angled down over the hand.

I did like that they brought back the "two swords form one" thing from Demon's Souls, although I'll admit I've never used the Lothric/Lorian Regalia haha. Maybe I should do that at some point. I think it would've been cool if we got a small cutscene of it being created, too.

I really had fun with Gold Tracer in DS1, and really felt it a missed opportunity to bring them it (along with Dark Silver Tracer) in the Ringed City combined as a duel-weapon, imagine the arts for it!

The Chaos Blade is in Bloodborne too, it’s the Chikage. It just doesn’t cause bleeding because that’s not a status condition in Bloodborne, but it’s literally the exact same blade.

My favorite weapon in the Soulsborne games has been the Saw Blade Cleaver. I always thought it the best all around weapon in the series good speed good damage you couldn't ask for a better weapon

Douglas Powders Several utilities for fast attacks and long rang attacks. Bonus damage on beasts. Infusible with paper and the most simple but one off the coolest switching animation in the game. Agreed
