Its a glitch called ESM which allows us to turn the Red Sign Soapstone into the RTSR by equipping it in our ring slot. It happens after visiting Andrea if you want to see! Thats why we have such an annoyingly slow Stray fight :P
GDQ did a "that's never happened before" for dark souls like a month ago where a different runner did a run of the game where he slows down a bit to explain what's actually happening with a lot of the glitches they do in the game, including this one, if you're curious Some of the strats might(?) be outdated now but it's still interesting
Can anyone explain how he dupes 99 dragon scales when the wiki says prompt swapping for item drop quantity doesn't work on PTDE? I'm trying to learn the run and confused asf lmao

Pretty crazy that if someone manages to do a perfect run (which would be insanely hard, given all the difficult tricks, glitches and sometimes RNG dependent moments) DS1 all bosses could go "well" under one hour
The dupe glitch takes time and is pretty much pointless for the run to level up further. With the stats we get, our damage is already close to as high as it will be. Only thing that would benefit is going 99 str but would rarely save hits throughout the run considering most bosses are dead in a few running attacks anyways.
Is the melee-only route the new best overall route for all bosses or is it just a “variant” of the all bosses category but not better than the usual route?
I respect distortions2, he is nuts. He just goes from speed game to speed game, spends 50+ hours a week mastering the movement mechanics down to a science, as well as near emulating a TAS for EVERY speedrun trick known to mankind (these took YEARS for all of mankind to come up with). Then distortions2 corrects the community!! He tells them what is even BETTER than the best strats all of humanity’s intelligence could generate over years, found by his superhuman brain in just days, if not hours. And they listen. They know they will never see another runner like distortions2 visit their speed game. He’s one of a kind magic. And then distortions2 uses those new strats his big brain invented and works his frickin ass off for another week. UNRELENTING. And I can guarantee this! What if he hates a trick he is bad at? Then how about 7 hours not leaving until he is the best there has ever been in the history of forever?! Done! And it then it all pays off with a MASSIVE World Record in just two weeks. The former world record holder applauds because he just witnessed awesomeness. And because he learned so much. And then distortions2 is onto the next game. And that is why I respect distortions2 so much.
U realize that he is using other people's strats in his runs right?(well ofcoarse because he is not the only one that makes discoveries)..he is not the only intelligent runner in ds1 community(no hate to him because he is a great runner but he is not the best in ds1)...there a people who are not on RU-vid but are still continuing to put in the work and grind away at these games discovering new things .it's very insulting when there are other people working behind the scenes yet they get almost no credit for thier work from casual watchers..but it is what it is since they are not popular I guess..BTW it's been 8months since this "new route" and he is nowhere near the fastest time(59min51sec) so your point about him beating records in 2 weeks does not apply to ds1.
Yes, you can! But the problem is it takes over thirty arrows to cut it off if I'm not mistaken. He does it like this because it saves a lot of time if you just hit the tail with a weapon covered in electricity. Remember he's trying to do it in the fastest way possible.
he uses a glitch to equip it so it turns into the red tearstone ring as it has the same name in the files so he doesn't have to go to valley of the drakes
The moveswap glitch too so he can do that running thrust that hits twice per attack. I think that also bypasses the stat requirements for the dragon tooth as well
