I agree. He is one of my biggest examples for (metal) bass playing. He is at an almost inhuman skill level that i will never attain, but at least i try to learn a lot from his style of playing. I am already happy with a small percentage of his technique 😉

Alex is seriously the coolest guy in metal, he's one of my biggest influences and very inspiring yet he's not stuck up or rude at all, the first time I saw corpse play he threw me a water bottle cus I was so thirsty. The second time he actually talked to me after they played and I hugged him it was so unreal actually meeting him and talking to him, I picked his brain on music theory and asked for tips on my own playing. Very awesome person and a legend in death metal in my opinion. Alex is cannibal corpse. Alex is death metal musicanship

Great segment. I enjoyed seeing Alex Webster as I have grown up listening to Cannibal Corpse and have been a big admirer of his sound and playing since I was a kid. 20 odd years down the road I still love their music and appreciate chances such as this to see him talk about music. Thank you for the video. I look forward to seeing future interviews with other artists as well.

This video is entertaining and very informative. When you talk about people looking up to Alex like he looked up to Billy Sheehan etc. when he was 14, his response is great. I think it's awesome to see how he never forgot that he was in the same position at some point. I remember previous interviews where he takes time to shoutout some underground bands he thinks deserve more fame :) Btw, there was talk of an Alex Webster signature product being developed by Darkglass. Is there any update on this? Thanks!

Alex has one of the most refreshing personalities of anyone in metal, and interviews like this are a fantastic display of it. Add on top of that his writing ability, both lyrically and musically, his enthusiasm for his craft, and his love of the fans. The guy is such a wonderful example of what we should all strive for.

Depending your level and assimilation . If you start , yeah , but with a balance that make the stuff funny to do , and all is new , even hard , so you practice and must practice hard and long . But when you re artist and play like for 15 years like i do , you practice regulary when you re inspired . Practicing bored forced mechanical exercices for 5 h a day to fuck up the brain is not good , you don't play better and your brain is not assimilating . You don't progress . But when you practice 2 , 3 hours a day some time , stop 3 days to 1 week , by burst then practice again , and you ll see a fresh maneer progress . And not repeating yourself . Personnally i do exercices for warmin up then play songs i made that are fun but challenging too , to the muscle memory stuff too then i improvise and search new things . In my own expression without looking outside . At home , i listen a lot I love metal , but i listen a lot of Big band stuff , Mahavishnu and tommy bolin . I don't listen just drummers . Im a composer too , so in my head , i dont think like a drummer . But the thing is as jazz i broke barreers between instruments concepts and arranging . It open doors more for developping original ideas Instead of looking to drummers only as drummer , or bass players as bass player , or Guitar players as ...so on.. It open doors to something different in your stimulation as artist that break with what everybody is doing , especially now .

I started with drums first in 6th grade. Took lessons for 3 years but just couldn't really get it. Sold my kit and picked up a bass 3 yrs after. Asked my parents for a bass in 1995. Been playing ever since. Not currently in a band, but in early 2000's got to open for Motorhead for 1 show. The career didn't happen for us. Didn't get the luck.

When he speaks about seeing Geddy Lee early in his bass playing it's so Ironic cause I also did yet no bigger influence on my playing was see CC at the Bomb Shelter in Manchester New Hampshire with The Black Dhalia Murder and we helped everyone load in as we were driving from Maine and got there hours early. Alex asked if we wanted to watch him warm up and I was in awe and inspired from that moment on.

He’s got a wife and dog, but no children. I respect that. Also, Alex is three months away from 50 man, you’ll go grey at that age. You can actually see him transition into wise old man if you compare pictures of him from 2009, then 2014, then 2017-18.

Great thing the host said here: if you're tense, you start hurting your precision, your stamina. I'd love him to continue the thought: and once you're out of any precision, and then stamina and you don't stop - you start hurting yourself. And that's the road to end any fun.
