Es war keine "Aneignung" des Liedes, sondern die Übersetzung eines russischen Heimatliedes. Im Osten wurden jede Menge neue deutsche Heimatlieder für die Zukunft komponiert. Die Grenze der Oder nach Polen hin wurde von den Sowjetmächten anerkannt. Damit war Schlesien, die Heimat meiner Großeltern an Polen gegangen. Wir haben auch polnische Lieder gesungen und Lieder aus Lateinamerika, von der amerikanischen Protestbewegung gegen den Vietnamkrieg. Wir sangen viele traditionelle russische Lieder und alte europäische und internationale Arbeiterlieder. Das Erbe unserer mutigen Vorväter zu ehren war uns erlaubt. Die KPD, die im Westen unter den angelsächsischen Alliierten verboten war, hatte unsere Solidarität. Unser Land wurde zerissen, immer wieder neu. Die Einheit hat eine ganze neue deutsche Heimat zerstört. Es ist alles verloren und unser liebes Deutschland hat sich bis heute nicht erholt. Aber unsere Ehre kann uns niemand nehmen! Der Text unserer DDR-Nationalhymne, die auf die Melodie der westlichen gepasst hätte, zeigt den mutigen und kraftvollen Charakter von uns, der in jedem Deutschen bleibt, bis es so weit ist...

I'm something of a Fascist, but I must say, the DDR kept the Germans German, unlike the BRD. The DDR valued Labor and the Fatherland, all within a healthy Nationalism instead of Chauvinism. Meanwhile, the BRD valued complete Materialism, Consumerism, Abstract Freedom, Individualism and an overal Bourgeois Pseudo-Culture.
