I filmed this at the 2016 Airpower in Zeltweg, Austria. I can tell you, this was the hardest filming I did so far. Man that aircraft screamed like hell.
I've always wondered, how much do retired fighter pilots miss flying those super high performance planes? Is it something you think of often? As a non-pilot, my impression is that driving or piloting anything else after flying a fighter would feel mundane afterwards. Thank you for your service!
I thought that landing was an absolutely amazing display of skill and beautifully executed. Splendid work in a splendid nimble aircraft. Hats off to France!
Much respect from U.S. French always put beauty into all their work, and this is no different. Also hats of to the pilot for that type of G force tolerance.
That's the most beautiful air display I've ever seen. Pilot deserves to be named. And yes, the Rafale is noisy as hell. Had one fly at an air show in my city and man that thing was deafening!
@@Albatard1981 Thank you. This machine is just f**king amazing. Not much more to say really. Even its beautiful thunderous roar is something to admire, I'll never forget the first time I heard one. It commands your attention immediately🤣
The Rafale has just achieved a technical feat! This magnificent bird has just made a flight to French Polynesia with a stopover in the United States without technical intervention. Once there they did a tactical exercise directly without landing. A little over 16,000 km with the stopover. It's impressive to see them do a tactical exercise in stride after such a long flight. France produces a reliable and efficient aircraft, it also has very good pilots. I wish all countries to be able to buy this magnificent machine.
Incredible piece of engineering, hats off to the pilot. His heart must have been pounding at 200 bpm+. Always love the landing bit, absolutely brilliant !
@@gw7624 Firts typhoons : 2004, firsts rafales : 2002. The rafale should have been a coopération with UK and Germany, as no deal was possible France do their own jets and the others countries tried to make something simmilar. So The Typhoon is a knock-off of the rafale, but worst.
I m so glad that Croatian 🇭🇷 choice for the air defense will becom the French🇨🇵 Desault Rafale 3r.It is so capable and for sure best looking military airplane.🇨🇵🇪🇺🇭🇷 🤝🇨🇵🇪🇺 .Thx
And all this without a dedicated air brake because differential steering of the close coupled canards and ailerons provide all the braking you need. Even during a half-loop in a steep descent. Many tricks of this kind are used on the Rafale.
That's one of the reasons why I love the aircraft : no giant dorsal airbrake (sorry Eagle, u good m8), no complex thrust-vectoring system (sorry Raptor, u very good m8), just some plain-old delta-wing tricks, with added canards. And it's getting real deadly too, the Meteor of the last upgrade delivers!
My goodness that is one of the best displays of pilot skills I have ever seen period, no matter the aircraft platform! The Rafale is a formidable aircraft in any modern air force environment, but the skills of this pilot is incredible.
I had the honour to work in the rafale department in Paris as an intern. This aircraft as seen more than 4000 modifications since the first prototype to make it the best military aircraft in the world. Amazing!
Marcel Dassault, founder of Dassault Aviation, once said “Pour qu'un avion vole bien, il faut qu'il soit beau” - “for a plane to fly well, it must be beautiful.” It is still true today !
it's just the opposite; the exact quote is: "A nice plane is a plane that flies well", it is because it flies well that it is beautiful. it's obviously not important, but the meaning is more poetic, I think. thank you for your comment, a hello paris
One of those quotes (false, BTW) that people like to pull out from time to time and dust off because it sounds so artistic and intelligent. Only problem (besides the fact that he didn't ever say that) is that it's utter horseshit. Some of the best flying planes in the world have been ugly ducklings, or at least not beautiful. Some plane makers go out of their way to make attractive products, and people try very hard to link their pretty planes with better performance or handling....but there is not statistical evidence. It's just as bad as the old gem 'if it looks good, it flies good". Total crap. The B-58 is one of the best looking planes ever built and it was terrible to fly. The F-104. Etc.
@@winstonbachan9229 isro achieves mangalyan, mom, 104 sattelites in go... That is the clear proof the india is capable of producing indegenous aircraft like this on our own.. then why spend 15k crore for rafael
Wow! You weren't kidding, that really was brutal! That pilot must have been made of iron to sustain that amount of high g. Awesome stuff, thanks paddypatrone.
Air show: “How fast are you going to go for your moves?” Rafale pilot: “Oui.” Seriously, this showcases why Dassault are the kings for delta winged aircraft.
Dassault knocked it out of the park with the Rafale, a fighter that combines world class aerobatic performance with advanced weapons capabilities all wrapped up in a beautiful package.
@hellrockermihir F-22. Please don't insult them by keeping with F-35/F-15. The only edge they got over any other 4.5 Gen Fighter is Stealth and Electronic Warfare suite. The only unchallenged jet USAF has is the beauty F-22. But a Sukhoi 30/35 with capable BVR in integration with a capable ground defense like S-400/500 will simply take away the stealth element too. And do you remember blitzkrieg? How low cost Soviet tanks with their quantity took over lower number but superior German tanks. That can happen to limited number of Squadron of F-22. And regarding other american jets I am not sure as a F-16 was shot down by a 30 year old MIG over India Pakistan dogfight recently. So a it depends on pilot too.
The sheer manoeuvrability of this is insane, even to the untrained eye. Its just darting and turning around like anything. Fantastic. Also, kudos for the awesome camerawork.
***** india has mirage 2000 since ages ,but that fighter is not air superiority one . remember ignorance is bliss for you ppl .India uses mirage as third line of defense and is currently getting replaced by rafale jet .
***** Indian airforce got mirage before su 30 mki and was not satisfied by mirage offensive capabilities so went for su 30 s .same goes for rafale . India is getting rafale for third line of defense and as ground attack aircraft after air dominance has been achieved by su 30 mki ,fgfa and Hal amca . Currently Jaguar and mig 25 ,mig 27 does role of ground attack for india but these fighters need escort air Craft and using beast like su 30 mki is underusage of such air superiority fighter so india is getting rafale as rafale doesn't need escort after air dominance has been achieved . remember Indian airforce has to be always ready for two front war against china and Pakistan . India doesn't have luxury like uk and France to have freindly neighbor so it has always to be ready for war and thence it can't go for third defense aircraft like rafale or typhoon so it needs air superiority fighter like sukhoi, f16 ,f22 ,fgfa and Hal amca For France and uk airsuperiorty stuff is achieved by jet of usa .
I've seen nothing like the rafale at any airshow, so nimble and quick in a very small area, I don't see any plane beating it in a dogfight. Can imagine it being deadly in a strike aswell, very little time over target and returning to target very quickly.
Marcel Dassault once said to the Dutch when we choose the F 104 over the Mirage 3: " Your country made the wrong discision". And I think he was right. Now look what the Mirage has grown to. A magnificent fighter jet probably one if not the best in the world.
Germany bought US planes because it comes with US nuclear protection. But since Trump, how to be sure that USA will always protect you. It is sad to see how Germany don't want to commit to building the scaf with France 😥.
That pilot is at the top of his game...to transition from afterburner to controlled stall maneuvers like that, is very impressive. Also note the aggressive way he (she?) came into land to show off landing in a very short section of the runway. Thanks for this awesome vid...
Kiters Refuge : sorry but no stall during this display, the fly by wire do prevent it. If there are a few women pilot on Rafale, until now none became solo display pilot. Pilot here is probably Marty.
I read the title of the video and didn't believe it. That might be the single most impressive demonstration I've seen. I'm used to seeing military pilots show the crowd what their jet can do, this guy showed the crowd what a pilot can do.
I was there and I watched live! Excellent program. All maximally close to people standing along the runway, during the maneuvers do not go away from the audience and all the maneuvers is nice to see. An excellent display of flying on the edge capabilities of both. Aircraft and pilot.Definitely the best solo display on Airpower 2016 ! Excellent plane and an even better pilot! BRAVO Cpt Jean Guillaume Martinez "Marty"!!
Voilà ! Maybe.... but after so many years of behind the scene work and improvements.... Gripen stole the show in the meantime. Dassault kept improving this sound basis. ECM did the rest.
First time I have seen the full display of the Rafale.......very impressive display with lots of High Energy Maneuvers.....a very fast agile aircraft..........1st Class filming to capture such a dynamic display from a fast jet..........excellent work.........Regards Barry
Croatia finally decided to buy 12 of those, I'm proud that my ~300€ (Average cost per working person) will buy part of those machines :) I just hope It will be used for keeping peace and not any wars.
@@deckisknezije4447 I'm not rich, but I do work and have a decent salary. If someone stole 300€ from my account, there is a decent chance I would not even notice :) In my opinion, 999 million € for this is OK. Those old rusted MiG-21's were a national embarrassment.
I could watch this all day and skip all bathroom breaks! That aircraft, appearance and pilot are one fearsome combination in capability, beauty and skill. Exceptionally good video from every aspect. Thanks for sharing.
Saw the Rafale in Le Bourget. It was a stunning display rythmed in music that was only second to the outstanding Sukhoi 35 display that day. Rafale is a compact almost flying wing mainly composite structure plane with a fair low observability in comparison to 4th gen fighters. It has an unmatched load to empty weight ratio and performs impressively in the whole spectrum of missions. Undoubtedly the best 4th gen multirole plateform out there.
Gutentag 101 4.5 or 4++ as you wish :) It's actually the best non 5th gen multirole platform there. Furthermore and given the Raptor isn't a multirole plane in addition to all the criticism about the F35 which is primarily a strike fighter anyway, one could even say Rafale is The best multirole fighter currently in operation.
4:40 Deliberate low speed imbalance. Nice. 5:20 Pulls up vertically while imbalanced! That's unreal!!!!! Even Su-30's can't do that, despite mastering the Pugachev Cobra.
Gorgeous plane, incredible pilot but nope F22 and Su 30 are way more maneuvrable, thrust vector is simply a game changer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U7Nsko6bvC8.html
WOW. Thank you for posting this !!! What a rate of roll. I loved the end where he goes up does a half loop and appears with the landing gear extended!!
The Pilot was pulling hi G's from a roll into a pull up, very impressive he lasted so long, the slow flyby may have given him a well deserved break. Split S into a landing, Fantastica!!!!! Great Camera work man, Thx for sharing!!!!
French pilots did the job already! The last one was a France / Papeete with one stopover and a tactical exercice before landing. This exercice isn't possible for Greek army.
@@utilisateurlambda7983 hold my souvlaki and you will see pretty good stuff...best nato pilots three times in a row (tlp nato pilots voting who is the best among themselves ) And if we are talking about dogfights look no further man..
great film! I think the Rafale is the most beautiful plane. I love the nose view. the curves at the canard going into the intake are so appealing. thanks again
