Shout out to the DCS team and their lighting team. The shot of you coming out of the fireball was gorgeous and the fact that they even thought to show the glow of your burner on the ground as you climbed out is an amazing detail
The Rafale is beautiful. Honestly a piece of flying art in my opinion. The way the intakes melt into the fuselage is just so good. I'm convinced the French bailed out of the Typhoon program as soon as they saw how ugly it was turning out.
Ahaha that is a possibility ;-) The Rafale is frankly a beautiful aircraft. And I think the most complete, modern, versatile, durable of the "european delta generation". No joy in saying that, because, being Italian, I have a love/hate relationship with our French cousins ;-)
Luckily everyone is entitled to an opinion. I never really liked the Rafale like I do the Mirage III, V and 2000, Typhoon and Gripen visually. Front the front it looks likes it is sucking in its cheeks, and that always bothered me.
About the non-retractable refueling probe : The French military has a lot of fairly remote bases. When they want to move aircraft in and out of those bases, the only options are either to use an aircraft carrier or long flights with refueling. Considering the French only have a single aircraft carrier, they often have to rely on refueling. In many cases, not being able to refuel mid-air means losing the aircraft. For those reasons, the French need air refueling to be as reliable as possible. The deployment mechanism of the refueling probe was considered to be an additional point of failure. Meanwhile the aerodynamic penalty of having the probe always out was determined to be negligible. Removing the deployment mechanism also meant less maintenance, less parts and a slightly cheaper airframe. So yeah that's why the french refueling probes are fixed.
I have real-world experience in joint air-ground operations, and the Rafale is highly underrated. It's probably the best non-stealth strike (air to ground) aircraft in the world in all performance characteristics.
Flying through the fireball of your enemy at ground level is about as maximum disrespect as you can get, I love it 😂. The first fight was awesome, especially seeing the turn reversal from the hornet’s perspective. Great vid as always GS
The first thing your instructor tells you when he presents the Rafale to you for your first time is that the refueling probe is there and will always be, thus suppressing any further talk about that for the rest of your carrier as a french Armee de l'air or Aéronavale pilote.
That step by step breakdown of neutralizing that first rate fight was really cool and helpful. I appreciate things like that for trying to learn bfm etc
The Rafale has a reduced IR signature on its front and is considered to be a semi-stealthy fighter thanks to the materials used, and its shape. It uses jammers a lot, because French think it is better than passive stealth as passive stealth "only" works in some electromagnetics bands (which is already a good thing), and it contributes to lower the price of the plane. You're welcome ;)
Lol imagine being on the ground at night then a jet crashes into the ground and from the ball of fire emerges the victor jet mere feet from the ground...
Dude I found this channel this morning (10 april 2023 at 15:37 CEST) and I’ve been binging these dogfights since then till now (22:48 CEST) and will do so for the next few hours. Love this!
Hello! Amazing job as Always. Fyi, Marcel Dassault, founder of Dassault Aviation manufacturing both the Rafale and Mirage, used to Say " a good-looking aircraft Will Always be a good-flying aircraft".
GS, you just keep ratcheting up the creativity. Brilliant cinematography! Great use of perspective and camera angles! Anyone think it's time RU-vid begins to offer some awards for content creators besides # of subscribers? They need to step it up with some recognition for content quality and creativity. I nominate this man for one or two right now.
I've been watching your channel for a good while now & without a doubt, the entire Round 1 sequence (flying and video perspective) was the best BFM fight I've seen. This channel just keeps getting better! Showing the fantastic talents of both GS & DCS devs. Bravo!! Encore!!!
He just felt like cutting (burning) some grass after that dogfight was finished at 5:13. No but seriously that shot was BEAUTIFUL! Really reminded me of a hollywood movie but that just makes it better, the quality in hollywood movies is always good! Great vid GS really enjoying the A-10 stuff too, but this vid was next level fun to watch!! keep it up!
By far the best one yet in a long time. The A10 stuff is alot of fun to watch too. More night time fights. I screen shot you flying thur the flames of your fresh kill. Now it's my wall paper desktop. Thank you. Awesome
The shot at 5:15 wouldn’t have been nearly as good if it was a day time dogfight. It’s pretty lucky we get that shot the one time GS does a night fight
The way y show us both POV of fighter aircrafts is really appreciated 🙏🙏 in that sense, we also hv the chance to know acknowledge the fact of dog fight more ❤️❤️ do this in upcoming videos "DCS" is now on peak level🔥🔥🔥 in aviation terms 😀.
I liked the ending with you coming out of the fireball as well as a lot of the others ;) And landing on the hyway??? Gettouttahere lol. What a vid of endings ;)
Flying through the fireball of the hornet burning the bushes has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen on this channel, and then that textbook landing at the end of round 2 😂 what a video!
To your question: I think the Rafale is one of the best looking Gen 4 to 5 aircraft. While the Eurofighter looks more sinister with its squared off enormous intakes, located directly under the fuselage like the F-16, and more forward placement of the canards, the Rafale looks more elegant and smooth in contrast. The Saab JAS-39 Gripen kind of splits the difference in looks to my eye. I've always preferred the more sleek and elegant aircraft judging purely based on looks. The Rafale, B-1B Lancer, and the SU-34 Fullback (Hell duck) are all at the top of my list for best looking planes ever. There's always exceptions. The A-10 is a perfect example. I love the Porsche 911, but I also love a good off-road capable pickup truck. It's not a pretty aircraft by any stretch, but it still looks awesome in its own way.
Another tremendous fight. I must say, one thing that really makes me laugh is all the times I see people in combat with their anti-collision lights flashing away. Especially at night.
I love the way delta wings look. Especially with the canards. So the typhoon and rafale are on the top of my list of best looking aircraft. But I also think that the super tucano is the best looking modern military aircraft out there at the moment... So maybe my taste isn't the best? Lol.
i personally would like to see some fights with the ctrl+enter controls indicator, would be useful for learners to look at how some maneuvers are performed
