I am glad you like the date squares recipe. I think Georgie, Perry’s cousin’s wife, would be happy to know a part of her is enjoyed around the world. Georgie was a French Canadian from up North that married Perry’s older cousin. He had a heart condition. He died not long after they married. They had 2 daughters. She remarried but remained close to Bill’s parents. She was the nicest person!
Thank you for that information Joelle, I always find it very interesting to hear the history if a recipe. I converted it to use in the Thermomix and the timing probably couldn’t have been better. I understand you are now the proud owner of a Thermomix as well. All of my Early 500 or so Thermochef recipes, will adapt very easily to the Thermomix and you will find it extremely useful preparing hearty healthy meals in your Northern winter season. I have a TM5 model and a TM6 model. My RU-vid friend has just purchased the vegetable peeling blade, which can be used in either model and swears by its efficiency and ease of use for peeling beetroot, potatoes and carrots. I’ve yet to see it in action but I’ve seen photos of the results and they look quite impressive. I hear you have had another fall recently, I wish you a complete and speedy recovery and hope you are all the more safer getting about your home with your new light installed. I sincerely hope you and Perry and a safe and healthy 2022 and all the health woes of the past stay where they belong. That's one slice hard to pass up. Hi Cheekyricho.. Mmmm delicious Date slice is a favourite of mine with a cuppa. This recipe is very similar to the one I'm familiar with, but has 1/2 cup 🤔 of fine shredded coconut to the pastry mix and it's either orange or lemon juice added to the date mix if I remember rightly. 👍🤤😀 Well that's another year in the kitchen at an end. Thank you John, a very Happy, safe and prosperous New Year to you. That is the video that got stuck in limbo. I had to redo it, hence the Christmas reference. I do a Date Bubble Bar using dates, rice bubbles and lemon juice to emulsify the date mixture. It’s a no bake slice, super easy and a huge hit here. One of my very early uploads and something I shared with my late neighbour at Christmas time along with white Christmas, Christmas Bark and a host of other festive recipes for their Christmas table . Whilst he enjoyed them all he said his favourite by far was the ‘Brown Christmas’ (date bars). He had such a weird sense of humour so the name stuck and every year I still make Christmas Platter up for his family to share, with all his favourites… plus a few new ones. It’s a tradition I will continue as long as I am able . He was a very dear friend to me and I miss him terribly , he was taken far too soon and missed out on meeting 2 of his new grandsons but the older grandson keeps his memory alive by relating stories about him to his younger brother and cousin. Brown Christmas being one of Poppy’s stories. I feel privileged to be part of that families history with my humble date bubble bars and even prouder to have been able to call Arthur my friend. Thank you for thinking of me John, so much has happened of late. My daughter and her family even little mouse contracted Covid. Bobs elder sister broke her hip and is stuck in hospital having it repaired. You may recall she broke the other hip twice in a week and had to have it pinned too. There is a Covid outbreak in her aged care home and it’s in lockdown for 2 more weeks. Unsure if she will remain in hospital or be returned to the home. Obviously we are still eating but I haven’t been able to film or edit anything for weeks. It has rained everyday and the grass is growing while you watch it. Tomorrow I’m pulling apart the dash and electrics on my Sprinter because, I have lost all power to all instruments including indicators and electric mirrors, windows and even the doors can’t be locked. The auto electrician can’t get to it for a fortnight and as I have tested all the fuses and fusible links, disconnected batteries and looked for worn or chewed wires. If I can’t find the fault I have to drive it 30 kms to get it repaired., mindful all the time that the fuel pump may be affected and leave me stranded. It’s a major and one I didn’t need right now. I’m dog and cat siting this weekend somewhere else so no cooking etc there. The longer I’m away from my RU-vid routine the harder it seems to get back at it. I know lots of people are counting on me and all these trials and tests being hurled at me from every direction are putting me further and further behind. @@CheekysKitchen It's good to hear you are doing well amongst the trials and tribs. They all seem to make a mountain out of a mole hill when we view them in perspective of each other. Sorry to hear the sick bay has been busy within the family. Anything to do with the Hip is a darn nuisance and unforgiving at older age. Covid has left it's mark in one way or another on all of us. The auto electric issue will probably be something simple. It could be a circuit board or a earth continuity fault. If you have a multimeter, check the earth grounding from point to point for continuity. Sometimes a poorly crimped wire can snap off at a pin point on a harness plug or corrosion has penetrated something. I'm just guessing here, but that's where I'd start, small... Good luck with it. When you're ready, we'll see you here. I made a suggestion on a youtubers channel, he was demonstrating his new Aldi sausage roll maker, to use bread (crusts removed) if you run out of pastry or want a lighter alternative. Obviously cut to size of the mould and press in before you add the fillings so you have some depth. Basically the same principle as a Breville snack and sandwich maker. Less greasy mess to clean up afterwards too. It took me a good 10 minutes to clean the grease out of the nooks and crannies, while poking and proding with paper towels after the last pastry use. I'd had enough at that point. Stay safe and healthily fed my friend.🤤😀👍💞

Lots of rain and cool weather here for 3 days, the heats coming back, you boys better stay in the cool and keep hydrated, it’s expected to get really nasty. The gardens are happy, lawn is growing again, the croaking frogs and the ducks are happy too. The rain water tank is overflowing and the potholes in the local roads have hit a record number. I would much rather rain and cooler weather than the past devastating bush fires 🔥that destroyed homes, farms and natural forests. I spent a week in Perth in February a long time ago and every single day the temperature was above 100deg in the old scale. Even the nights were terribly hot, it was exhausting. We went to Coogee Beach and the ground burnt your feet through your thongs. I went back a couple of years ago and couldn’t believe how much the place had changed, it has certainly gone ahead in a couple of decades. I guess you may not have noticed the changes, living there on a day to day basis softens the effects considerably. I’m lucky to live near water and farmland, without traffic, surrounded by scenic mountains and native wildlife. The internet is beyond hopeless though, the price you pay for tranquility and peace.😎😊😆🌈🧑🏻🍳

The appliance is called a TM5 made by Thermomix, I have since upgraded to the latest model the TM6, which has a few additional features and is able to cook at higher temperatures, perfect for cooking candy and pralines. This recipe never fails to please and is packed with fibre and cholesterol lowering oats. Whilst the recipe is a great economical slice to make all year round it is especially nice at Christmas time, appealing to kids more than the traditional fruit mince recipes. I must apologise for my delay in replying as we have recently moved house and had to do major renovations due to our home being seriously flooded, resulting in the loss of much of my camera equipment and cooking gear.
