After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. She had already given a teased, half assed/vague confession to Kazuma, but they cut it from the movie (the third night, plus the last bit they spend in the Crimson village). I wonder what they were thinking when they changed that? I think that influences Kazuma many times later on (since he's always wondering if she was serious or not).

Yeah that village arc was when it became pretty obvious Kazuma was gonna end up with Megumin Also spoiler alert Im actually impressed Kazuma stayed loyal to Megumin when Darkness confessed to him later as it was clear he considered her more then a friend/companion but he didn't want to become that kind of person

@@Trygorn A lot of people would cry foul on that and proclaim that Darkness should be the girl he ends up with, but that's because waay to many people, particularly kids, tend to self-insert themselves and project their own preferences onto the MC. I get really tired of this, especially when someone is insisting that it's bad writing for the MC to end up with whoever the MC becomes closest to, rather than who the reader/viewer prefers. It's an example of the Dunning/Kruegar effect. The reader/viewer is arrogantly asserting their superior writing knowledge while demonstrating that their creative analytical skills are actually pretty bad.

Do not forget her Crimson Demon like penchant for acting cool and one-upping people … or her ability to get herself into trouble 🤭. But on the other hand you are right, apart from her flaws Megumin is also pretty smart and can extricate herself from trouble as well. She’s also pretty much the only one who can keep up with Kazuma and can quickly figure out what is going on at any given time. And as time goes on she proves all the more there is at least “some” method to her madness. That’s partly what draws them together I think, … and why hKazuma could never go for someone like Aqua who is pretty much the complete opposite.

Don't know if that world even has dates as we know them... But I guess Megumin IS like a Chuuni version of Kazuma, but mostly without the perv. She does get a more mature feel as the story progresses.

Spoiler alert: No, it wasn’t like in his world at all 🤣 the fireworks were there for a whoooooooole different reason 😆. (If I remember correctly that one is also pretty cute as they try to find one another, but keep missing one another in Scooby Doo like fashion until Megumin eventually ends up in jail … again :P)

Well, in the Light Novel they spend a lot of time together and do a lot of nice heart warming things together but I don't recall there ever being anything exactly like a date from our world. In the first place I'm not sure the concept of a date even exists in that world.

Kinda happy it is! In the LN it drags on and on and on and on. Almost comically so. In fact it drags on so much Kazuma becomes self-aware and asks Aqua if he isn’t cursed 🤣. Although at the rate they are going I think I know what they are building up to … and if I am right it is going to surprise everyone.

Man. Darkness was butchered so hard. I really hope they could somehow save her character if they decided to animate the light novel. The saddest part is that Megumin was kind of the reason for her downfall. She got all the focus, so Darkness was pretty much left in the dust. Then, when she’s finally used, she’s butchered and just used to promote Megumin x Kazuma, while making Darkness extremely unlikable. They should honestly go off the rails a bit and improve Darkness’s character, and give both her and Aqua a bit more focus.

He kinda should have expected it yeah xD. On the other hand: while it is an amazing gag, the LN does make it more clear that Megumin is pretty much just as clueless as Kazuma is to what a “date” actually means. It’s not like she ever went along with ‘girl talk’ in Red Prison or had much opportunity to discuss boys with Yunyun. And her sister was way too young to be interested in dating. So when Megumin is unsure what to do she defaults to what I’m going to call “Megumin’s Maxim”: When in doubt? EKUSPLOOOOOOOSION!

Not entirely true, she also trusts Yunyun to do it. And on occasion Aqua and Darkness have, but she doesn’t prefer it. But I do think you are on to something. We get a bit lost in the comedy aspect to realise that, after casting explosion, she really is completely helpless for a while. It takes trust for her to let someone carry her. And for all his lewdness and perviness, and even though he fantasises about her chest when he carries her, … Kazuma has never done, or never will, anything while she is defenceless like that. The thought has literally never crossed his mind once. That’s pretty dope.

⁠⁠⁠@@gianniaerts7352Let’s be real though, Megumin is obsessed with explosions enough to get a rando to carry her 😂 it’s her defining bad trait throwing all common sense out the window for a moment in the spotlight. For me, the explosion trips have always been one of the best tellings even so early that they were meant to be, it’s something they share together that made such great chemistry every time they are paired together.

You know I’m trying to think of a time where Megumin would let a random carry her …. But I cannot think of a time. Even in the novels she always manages to persuade someone to come along when Kazuma doesn’t want to (he definitely spends time with her the most), that person usually being Yunyun. I think Dust had to maybe carry her once when he and Kazuma switched parties? But not sure, and not like he could have done much cause Aqua and Darkness were there.

Megumin’s explosions really have been getting stronger. If it was her now, Beldia’s castle would get destroyed with a single explosion. Also, the range of explosion is insane. Imagine a Megumin in modern times. Throw her in a plane and it wouldn’t matter if she only has one shot.

Her explosion right now is comparable to the Little Boy (Hiroshima) or Fat Man (Nagasaki) nuke. She still has a LONG way to go before she could even come close to topping mans most destructive weapon ever made, the TSAR Bomba, made by the Soviet Union. And even the version that was tested was HALF the power of the original design.
