Built in tubs are not only easier to get in and out of, they're also easier to clean. Free standing tubs usually have awkward space around them that you have to bend over, reach around, squeeze between in order to clean. I knew the 'trend' of free standing tubs would pass as soon as people lived with them for awhile. That's what happens to any trend that's all about appearance and not about function. Another such trend is open shelving. Impractical as a genuine storage solution and increased workload with the washing/dusting now involved. I always say, if you want a 'trend' that will last, look to the 'trend' that's actually very functional and practical.

I'd you have the money it's probably worth it but I believe from what I remember they are expensive I agree the old fashioned ones are awakard to clean I do love the walk in showers the newer ones it may not be as expensive as the sit down tubs I've never compared prices to know but I have always loved them but I've heard the sit down ones are comfortable crestons wife speaking

I went from a garden tub to a free standing , I chose a smaller one and I can clean it easier.

I LIKE the look of a built in tub better than a free standing one. I like the shower tub combo. It’s convenient and much easier with small children. I also like walk in showers with the frameless glass doors, but, I get tired of always feeling like I’m supposed to like every trend that comes around. Some of them are so stupid...like chairs with no arms...that isn’t comfortable to anyone!
@clpstl

I could never pull the trigger on the freestanding tub. Never found one that was comfortable, I really only like the look. I am so glad I stuck with my build in tub, comfort, and functional. I love having the shelf all around me for my plants, candles, bath salts, books, and whatever else I want at my fingertips.
@dianeosgood6594
@dianeosgood6594 2 года назад
Agree. Built in tubs are much safer to get in and out of, plus easier to clean. A shower with a built in seat is very practical. And open shelves in a kitchen or bath need to be very limited for few attractive often used items. Otherwise they collect dust and require constant cleaning.

You are wise, and your home probably has a beating heart, unlike the houses that bend to every "decorator's" whim and commercial design trend that develops, to keep the money flowing. Maybe stylish, probably costly, possibly beautiful, but no pulse. Nope. Lesley Branch a writer, (passed away at 103 years old in 2004) had the most beautiful home filled with treasures from travels, books, antiques, oil paintings, oriental rugs, color, warmth, and its heart beat could sooth the crankiest spirit. She said, "Surround yourself with the things you love and your house will make you happy." My own home has been greatly inspired by Lesley's home and her wise philosophy about decor. Two things to remember about people: (1) They will believe just about anything, especially if they hear it from someone whom they believe is an authority. (2) They are never really satisfied.

2 Thoughts: 1) These trends are for the newest generation of adults, who weren’t alive when these trends first came out. 2) This is what most people dislike about home decor, you just finish redecorating your house & everything you literally just removed, is back. It feels like insanity! Decor trends seem to be more about creating new income streams vs. real lasting style, which is what I prefer. Ok, that was 3 things🙃Thanks Valentina, for having the courage to make this video😅 p.s. I prefer your personal style❤️

Yup! I watched a bunch of decorating videos and found I have a mix of Neutral Bohemian, cottage core, traditional, the cleaned up version of shabby chic. I get bored very quickly with 'on trend' design, and love injecting colors that can change out with the seasons. I live rust and friendly shades of green, but, with so many plants in those tones, those are neutral colors, to me!

I call "them" style terrorists! They are the people at the top, calling the shots, telling you what's in what's not. Just when you get it all done, they are "soo over it"! Time to go out and spend beaucoups (sp.?) of bucks to start over! Stop the cycle and the insanity, find your own style, what makes your heart sing and spend a lifetime tweaking it as your tastes change, develop and mature. That way if you love something, it won't matter what "they say". And I'm not really talking about Valentina, I'm talking about the top of the food chain forecasters of fashion, design, home decor who make their living, and a sizable one at that, by how much they can pull our strings to purge and purchase over and over and over!! And by the way, I'm a designer and love change but try to not ride every wave that comes along.

@@royalteatime5953 I blame the influencers for this phenomenon. Most of them are mainly driven by their need to fill their pockets. Many people feel forced to change their style because influencers bully them into doing so by presenting their info using shame tactics. At the end of the day we just have to stay true to who we are and what brings us joy when we enter our homes after a long hard day outside. There's nothing wrong with refreshing and updating our homes but it shouldn't be because we feel forced to at the end every New Video brought out by our favorite Interior design Influencer because truth be told that's who these people are: Influencers not Interior Designers.

@eltinand1321
@eltinand1321 2 года назад
@Florida registeredagent you seem like a nice person so am not gonna go back and forth as I feel that only breeds negativity. I am sorry if you felt influenced by my comment but I will say again my comment was a generalized statement with regards to the" home decor influencer trend" that I've seen in the past couple years permeating the online space. Everyone wants to make hundreds of videos showing off their spaces and present themselves in a fashion of bullying their viewers into doing what they are doing to look sophisticated and upscale. These Influencers almost always have "wares" to sell from companies that they are affiliated with. In my opinion thats disingenuous and is only a ploy to get people to spend mindlessly on every trend whether or not it suits their personal style or they have the money to jump on these ever changing trends. My point was unless you have an actual background in interior design or you have an actual buisness that is in that field I don't feel you're qualified to bully anyone into changing what they love or what speaks to them. HoV is an actual company that is involved in real estate and interior design so I certainly was not or could not have been specifically speaking to them. Also I have been following HOV for the past 2 years and have consumed 95% of her content and I am subscribed to her newsletter and regularly download her pdf shopping guides. I have my notification set to alert me whenever a video from HOV is posted. I also regularly rewatch their videos and am extremely happy that they have been grouped in Playlist so I can binge to my hearts content whenever am in the mood for that. My point is I don't have a problem with HOV and once again my comment was not referring to them. I am not sure what else I can say but I hope my long-winded explanation provides more clarity .

Grey kills my vibes lol, every house here where I live is all grey inside, grey floor, grey walls, grey decor, etc. it’s killing me I absolutely love neutrals, and texture they’re always beautiful and calming, but grey makes me feel gloomy and bored lol! Edit: Yo guys, for those of you who like grey I’m not saying I hate all greys, I don’t like darker grey’s all the time like most of the houses are where I live, any color can have shades that are most attractive and others which most people wouldn’t use or like, it’s all personal preference.

I feel so validated! I’ve been saying warmer tones like beige and color is coming back and this all-gray look is dated already. I know I’m on board with warmer neutrals and even color as long as it’s used sparingly. Wallpaper = yep; particularly grass cloth. And no joke: I considered the black crocodile for my powder room! I think I’ll opt for a dark grass cloth though. Faux finishes are not for me though. The idea here is not to be stuck in a trend 5 -10 years from now it'll go out of style which is why I like neutrals for me because you can always change out things like pillows, fabrics, paint colour, without having an expensive remodel go for high-end fixtures or at least well made affordable

You are so cute! I love your zest for life! We are in our 80s and are living in the home my in-laws built when they came to town to live the life of a retired couple. It's cozy and comfy and doesn't have features people want in their homes...we have only one bathroom, no dishwasher or microwave, for example. But the wood in the cupboards and closet doors are just incredible! The floors are oak and we pay no mind to trends because we are in love with the home and hope we can stay here for the rest of our days! I spend lots of time binge watching your videos. You and your husband are like breaths of fresh air!

I love this video!!!! I generally only watch this channel because you’ve got such a fun personality and great hair, because of those houseplants, and because those dark walls are EVERYTHING, but this video makes my heart sing. Yaaaaaaaasssss wallpaper, beige, and color! And those wrought iron railings are making me nostalgic for those awful but also fabulous “Tuscan” interiors. Looks like I’m going to be trendy again for a minute. 🎉

Just bought a 3,000 sq ft, in an acre lot and although the house has been neglected, the layout and structure are amazing in a quiet neighborhood, well connected and a feeling of seclusion, I’ve been watching and rewatching many of my favorite HOV videos planning the reno and decoration for this house which I hope will be my home for many years. This video is changing some of my plans as I’m planning to decorate in a more timeless style with little trendy touches and there are a few things I had discarded and now I’m reconsidering thanks to this new info lol

Love the grass cloth and faux finishes. I put up grass cloth in the seventies and when it got tattered, I painted it. That way I could keep the texture. Came out great. Faux finished my living room in yellow with very pale grey blue and sienna marbling. Had to move and miss it. It was a lot of work to create but such a pleasure to look at

I'm thrilled to see built-in tubs on the list! We have a 3-story Victorian, and 2 of the baths have old claw-foot tubs. They look great, but they are SOOO impractical. My teen daughter almost fell the other day trying to get out of her tub after her shower...imagine how tough it is for us older folks! We started planning to have those tubs removed (replacing one with a walk-in shower, the other with a low-trim tub), and I felt like I was bucking all the trends, especially with this house being a Victorian. But what is the sense in beauty if it's not practical and user-friendly?!

Yay! I'm excited for these changes. Wallpaper can help to pull in some of the other trends. I'm grateful we have the freedom to experiment. Personally, I'm a gemstone girl. I know it isn't for everyone, but I love the colors in my jewelry box -diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, amethyst. Those colors make me happy. So, I've integrated them into my lower living room and choose plants to extend some of those colors out into the courtyard so the visual flow is continuous. Do what makes you happy! 💕

Great advice, as usual, Valentina! "We need to look around our space and just as modern railing does not match the aesthetic of your home, it is good to see how adding a trend fits with what we already have prior to committing to changes..." I am sooo glad to see colors moving away from dull and so overdone gray. At this point, gray spaces redundantly demonstrate a lack of creativity or imagination, unless you are truly enamored with gray, and that is different. After 2020, it is especially nice to see colors that are warm, optimistic, instead of cold. Too much gray can appear depressing and sometimes morbid. We painted some of the walls in our home soft gray and darker gray over ten years ago... Clearly, I am over it...lol... Tasteful wallpaper can add texture... I am glad to see it being used more too...

I’ve started timing myself to see how far into a Valentina video I get before I grin. Today was like, thirty seconds tops. That said, while I gravitate towards beige, it’s always fun to explore with colour - which doesn’t have to mean bright! For instance, Salamander (a rich dark green) can serve as a neutral, and a soft yellow (like you might see in Scandinavia) would glow in a well-lit interior, without feeling like a smack to the eyeballs!

This video makes me so happy! My house was built in 1979 and still has the original wet bar. Now I can embrace it again. We bought the house after it was updated in 2004. All my hard floors are beige. I have a giant built-in tub in the master. I have grass cloth wallpaper in one room. And a beige wall paper that looks like a faux finish in another. And I love color!! How lucky am I. (Dumb luck too - much of this I wanted to change but had other priorities) Yipee!

This spring we decided to paint the entire interior of our home. We had to paint the living room,dining area, halls and kitchen yellow as they are sort of semi open concept with several pony walls separating them. We really wanted color as we had 12 years of builder beige. However, since so much was going to be the color we chose - it had to be rather neutral. In the end we went with a pastel yellow. (They call it mellow yellow by Sherwin Williams)It is so light, bright and cheerful! I love it. I'm all about color now.

I don’t think we’ll be seeing Room by Room style mauve sponge painting, but I definitely see the more plaster texture styles coming back. And I think we may be seeing them in natural, eco-friendly clays and lime washes that are no VOC.

NO! No wall coverings! Never! Never again. Dealt with that in two of my homes and many offices as a commercial space planner. Some landlords simply didn't allow it at all any more and I don't blame them. Getting it off for the next tenant build out was expensive and then new wall covering was expensive to buy and install. Paint only! No more wall coverings until it is super easy to remove and of reasonable cost.

Beige in a boho natural palette is lovely especially when married with plants for their greenery and some exotic unexpected pieces, but the RH boring bland beige? Uggh not in my house or my clients'. I'm in Florida and with this bright sunshine 24/7 we live in color. I just find the RH look is for people who are afraid of well...everything, it's a safe and elegant look if your house is enormous and on scale with a hotel lobby- from which it stems....otherwise I find it lacks personality; and a home should always reflect who's living in it. Glad to see everything is returning with a twist.

Just found this channel…love it!!! Built in tubs in texas has been a thing and we’ve all been stuck with it, so that’s good its coming back. I noticed in the new home shows trends the beiges were slowly coming back. Texans usually have a big beige pallet due to it being more of a country theme around here. I wanted rid of my textured wall so I just repainted over it with a matte and didn’t put the glaze back over it.. Im glad the beige is back, it would take a lot of $$$ to get rid of it throughout my house. I’m tired of the all grey homes a little. I accented furniture and accessories with the creams and greys to incorporate the modern/grey look.. I personally like griege color. I like a little accent wallpaper.. just don’t bring paneling back………ever!!!!

We built a house last year and one of the things I insisted on was a built in soaking tub. So much easier to clean. We also put in a built in wet bar/wine bar. We did it in such a way that it would be timeless. We have since sold the house and are in the process of remodeling a home. Those 2 things we will definitely be adding to this home.

We recently bought an older home (early 70's) that has a sink/vanity in the guest room. At first I thought it was odd but now I love it and I'm enjoying getting this room set up for guests. When we were house hunting I noticed a couple of brand new homes that also included a sink/vanity in the extra bedroom. Do you see this ever becoming a trend? I know a lot of guest rooms have an attached bathroom but that is much more costly. Maybe this more of a European thing.
