I bought my 720 brand new in 1985 and I still have it. Until now, I have never seen what the engine looks like outside of the truck. Now I have. This also gives me a good view of where and how all the components are installed. Thanks!
I did up one of these engines for my truck a couple of years back. Had 230000Kms on clock. Skimmed head, new NPR rings, gaskets, big end bearings, water pump & timing chain set. Factory timing chain was a single row chain & had stretched badly, but fitted a double row kit same as video. Has been running very well since. Great engines although not big on HP. Nice video.
Minor critique. The color. Original is dark blue. I went light blue like the early Datsun motors. I use an early crank gear and distributor drive and a 510 distributor.
I have the same engine when I was installing my seal and harmonic balancer keep breaking the Woodruff key and breaking a chunk out of the part with the Woodruff key and making it leak real bad do you have any options I can use
Your torque pattern (and loosening pattern) is different from what my manual specs. Also from what i gather, some people recommend after torquing, loosen and retorque one at a time. Others say to heat cycle it and retorque. People also say to retorque this motor every "tune up".
It's didn't really matter what order you did it in these engine because there was a bad design in the deck the factory actually said to loosen and retorq them because the head gaskets would blow otherwise
Question: I see three holes in the cam timing gear. I recall when my engine was rebuilt in 2003 I saw three options to insert the cam into. Then I messed up and had to take the engine into a shop for a rebuild. When I got it back I had to advance the distributor all the way forward or it wouldn't run properly. Could that be cam timing that is off? It has a performance cam in it with a bigger grind over stock. I don't know the specs. But it would be nice to not have to run the distributor out all the way to the end of its travel.
Hello, can you tell me about the thermostat, what Is the part number i am having trouble finding videos about replacing It, mine does not have, so i don't know nothing about It.
Autozone has them. They're cheap. I'm sure ebay is full of them. There's a summer and winter thermostat. I think I just left summer in and out a garbage bag over the grill.
