Been a huge Bromberg fan for 50 years. The first time I saw him he opened for the Grateful Dead at the racetrack in Portland in 78 or 79. I missed him those twenty years he took off to “fiddle around”. Probably seen him perform 30+ times over the years.
I was privileged to speak briefly with David Bromberg at Tulagi's in Boulder many years ago. Saw him at the Wildey Theater, a great little venue near St. Louis, a couple of years ago. I took along a print I made of a photo I took at that long-ago show.. He wasn't meeting with any audience members after the show, but one of his band members was gracious enough to take the photo backstage and have David sign it. I ushered at a Tommy Emmanuel performance at The Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois a few years ago. My wife was doing stage door security before and during the show. Tommy passed by her several times, and once stopped to ask her if he could bring her a bottle of water. Between the last regular song and going back onstage for the encore, Tommy sang a brief snippet of Heartbreak Hotel to just my wife and I by the stage door. Great memories of two incredibly talented musicians.
David played my J200 on stage in 2007. Several songs he loved it , just like every other brother and sister who have played it. This is terrific. I spoke with Tommy at Minn State Fair a long time ago as well. He was playing the free (BIG ONE) stage. Solo. Terrific.
I saw him in the 70s at the 3 day Ozark Mountain MusicFestival in Missouri. He was my favorite there, and that's good considering I saw the Eagles,Skynyrd, America,Nitty Gritty, Joe Walsh, Bob Seger and many others there. Phenomenal!
