Personally, I think what he did was weird but it's not illegal. He's the victim of a criminal act here ; and firing him is just insult to injury.

If this had happened in the 60s,70s or even 80s it would just be called being a rock star.

It’s always nice when a person who has years of probably doing horrible things while high or drunk gets sober, or somewhat sober and suddenly uses their moral certitude to cut someone loose who probably was there for them when they were being that asshole.

My statement if I was Dave Mustaine: "Megadeth stands with Dave Ellefson. What he did regarding this matter was in his own time, privately, between 2 consenting adults. He did nothing illegal. This is just an attempt to tarnish the image of our brother and therefore our band. Dave Ellefson has been an integral part of Megadeth since its very beginning. He's a professional, talented and caring indivudual that's been by my side in some of my darkest moments. Megadeth looks forward to making more music and live shows with Dave Ellefson. There’s no way he was fired for just simply cheating on his wife, there had to have been some other shit going on behind the scenes.

I think Mustaine made the wrong choice here. If this girl wasn't underage, then no wrong was done. Killing a 40 year legacy for a jerk session. Seems pointless to me. Glad I got to see Dave E. on the MegaCruise, I actually got to see Megadeth play with Ellefson and without Mustaine lol.

I love Megadeth but Mustaine has showed to be a hypocrite on multiple occasions.

2017 Mustaine said in an interview that Jnr was the one who saved his marriage, and if it weren't for him it wouldn't have been salvaged. And this is how you repay him? Right now is when he needs his friends to have his back. After all they've been through. Absolutely pissweak Mustaine. You let your team down.

We don't really know the full story of exactly what happened, but here are two things to consider, firstly, Dave Ellefson is supposed to be married, secondly, he's supposed to be an ordained Lutheran priest, so what's he doing being involved in something like this in the first place?

Back to Megadeth lite then. Without Ellefson's bass it's not Megadeth for me. He's part of the nucleus of the band. It's not all about Mustaine. The album's they did without him on bass just had that something missing for me as a fan. The next part of the Mustaine dictatorship is complete. Ellefson has a lot of side business going. Combat records. Coffee. Bass technique clinics. Books etc Mustaine was probably wanting him to solely concentrate on Megadeth which probably seems pretty suffocating to a pure musician like Ellefson. I wish him luck and hope this shit is sorted and he can move forward from it. 🤘

I definitely see Jr as a victim in all of this. We don't know what was going on with him and his wife at the time. And regardless, it is wrong to have that moment deceptively recorded and released for the public to see. Mustaine firing him is just the final slap in the face.

I knew "Junior" back since 1984 when they used to rehearse at Mars in LA. My brother was best friends with them then and second engineered their first few albums recorded at Music Grinder. David was always nice to me and referred to me by name... Mustaine was a bit offish even when I printed some very demented Christmas cards for the "Daves" his response was Ughh. David (aka Junior everyone called himJunior) even sold me a kahler bridge (one of the bandmates I believe it was their first drummer worked at BC Rich and stole parts) he even said he could get me all the parts for a bass if I needed it but I didn't take him up on it. I hope he sorts all this out and finds the guy who recorded it and forces him to watch ernest angley videos 24 hours a day

I dunno, Dave. To me, two consenting adults engaging in activity with one another not criminal nature, is their business. Though, in bad judgement and poor taste to video record - regardless who did it, and if a married man... Poor taste. Not criminal. I find it rather ironic the other Dave to tout some form moral compass on the matter. That dude has ruined more relationships than any paramour has.

A lot of people are complaining that Dave made the wrong decision. He didn't. This isn't the 1980s where you can sing "Seventeen" and "Cherry Pie." Keeping Ellefson would make the whole band a target of woke media, not to mention record labels. Yes, bands do get kicked off labels for stuff like this. Maybe after everything is resolved legally they can consider bringing him back. Probably not, but anything is possible.

"....an already strained relationship" pretty much clarifies what's really going on here. It seems like Mustaine was waiting on a good excuse to get rid of Ellefson for a while now. I wonder what that's about? To be clear, Ellefson started a misguided friendship with a minor that turned s**ua!. She was 17 when they first started talking, and 18 when they began s**ting. He also invited her out to possibly meet, and that's where the grooming allegations came from. Those videos and screenshots were released by a friend who wanted to help the girl in question. Ellefson needs to leave this one alone, especially since he didn't actually file a report. I don't what what's true, but he asked the girl to "just say they were friends" and release a statement. Then in an attempt to shift blame, he called it a breach of privacy after those inappropriate interactions were exposed. It was all over Twitter. He's a married man in his mid-50s who knew better than to put himself in a situation like this. He's also a pastor who violated the tenets of his faith, so I'm a little put off by the complete disregard of his community. Also, it doesn't matter if this young lady was already s**ua!ly active before this incident happened. I've seen many comments on instagram s!*t-shaming this girl. This wasn't the case of two teenagers experimenting with their s**ua!ities, but a married middle-aged man who exploited a teenager's s**ua!ity. If you insist Ellefson is an innocent man who just "fell into temptation", all I hear is that he doesn't have any self-control. He's still wrong no matter how obtuse you want to be about it. We're all fans here. He may be a "nice guy", and you could have had a pleasant experience meeting him, but a few minutes with him doesn't mean we know the first thing about this man and what he does behind closed doors. At this point, Ellefson needs to reflect on his actions and address them with his loved ones. I believe there's always been an understanding between David and his wife. It's foolish to think she didn't know about her husband's indiscretions (at least to some extent), so I wouldn't be too worried about the state of their marriage. All that to say, I don't hold a teenager responsible for the damage David caused to his own reputation, career, and potentially his family. Mustaine did the right thing, but he did it to protect his band. We know enough about him too, and we've seen those Megadeth home videos. He was quick to abandon his longtime friend and bandmate who's been there for him through the worst of it, so there are no heroes in this story. The metal community needs to do better as a whole. Some fans certainly live up to the "guys who listen to metal are creepy pervs" reputation.

I've seen Megadeth since the late '80s. I had one encounter. In Houston, I was on the ramp when the band came down to the bus. Ellefson was first, and said he'd be right back. Last was Mustaine, and I was literally standing in his way. Mustaine came right at me, and I just said "great show", to which he looked up and said "thanks". Ellefson came back and talked to us for maybe 20-30 minutes, and signed every shirt, etc. I'd rather not see this, but in no way do I think it should be this way. Dave Ellefson is integral, and Mustaine is a verifiable prick. Mustaine can rust in fuckin peace.

Am I the only one who feels Megadeth should dissolve at this point? Mustaine is the only remaining original member and he can barely play/sing anymore. I think the real motivation here is Mustaine kicking him out so he can pay his replacement less. Mustaine isn't exactly known for paying top dollar. Chris Poland and Marty Friedman both declined invitations to rejoin the band over money issues.

The allegations are that he started talking to the girl when she was 17. The sexual exchanges happened when she was 19 (as far as we know). In one of the messages he instructs the girl: “and please deny it and say that we are just friends”. It looks very shady and it’s definitely not a good look for the band (especially with the upcoming album release and tour). If it was your business and one of your employees was facing allegations of grooming minors (who knows, there may even be a federal investigation into it??), you would fire them too. Your business, your livelihood, your reputation depends on it. Plus, this is just what we know, maybe there is more information that hasn’t been shared with us yet. It sucks! All of it sucks! Megadeth is not the same without David Ellefson. Actions do have consequences though. If it comes out that Ellefson has indeed been grooming minors then think about the repercussions the band would face for not having taken action. From a business and legal perspective, Megadeth did the right thing parting ways with Ellefson. It sucks though, it really sucks that it had to come to this. It’s sucks that any of this even happened!

Mustaine is widely known for not paying his band members after making false promises. It’s no coincidence why Megadeth has a former-member list that rivals in size to the former member list of the New York Philharmonic. They’ve all been screwed over.
