David Ellefson Thinks MEGADETH Has Gone Downhill 

I don't think Dave Ellefson had such success outside MEGADETH, he has like 5 projects but none is very good, the biggest one is based fully on former band members and Megadeth music so... I think it's exactly other way here, it's Ellefson jealous if anything about Megadeth. I'm no hater of Dave I wish he was in the band, he is supreme bass player not only for Megadeth.

David and Dave have been through a LOT together. The kind of sniping they're doing in the press is like watching brothers go at each other. The fact that they keep talking about each other tells us that they are always on each other's minds. Like brothers. I can't say whether they will get together again, or not, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they do.

Mustaine would have to allow it which will probably not happen. I think Ellefson really wants to be in Megadeth. Hes touring with a small band that almost exclusively plays Megadeth covers. If I was Mustaine id be pissed. I dont agree with firing Ellefson but I also dont agree with him trying to make a seperate band that just makes money covering Megadeth songs...

I don't see him ever returning to the band. He's already proven to be the bigger man when it comes to moving on from the past while Mustaine still clings on to it. It doesn't matter if Ellefson's other projects are successful or not. It only matters that he's completely content on doing those projects and that he's able to have fun again and not feel so trapped.

Dave is just a footnote in the history of Metallica. It is just Megadeth fans, Mustaine himself and some media that goes on and on and on about this BS.

@@rooscochran1003 He is absolutely wrong. Batman doesn’t need a sidekick. He should’ve been grateful for just being there. Literally any bass player who knows how to play the instrument could have played that part. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time. His ego has been inflated on Batman’s talent. Yes, Batman has his faults. But that’s Batman’s problem. And those are things Batman has to deal with himself. When Robin goes into interviews and slams somebody else’s shortcomings, it only makes him look bad. But Batman doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. Robin needs to step up and be his own man. But I wish him luck playing in a Batman tribute band and hopefully he has stopped jerking it for 19 year old kids. Meanwhile Batman will continue being Batman.

Mentally exhausted and disgruntled with the world he tried to save by himself and failed to. Maybe Dave is headed down a similar path. Trying to be the Batman of his band. Only thing we're in agreement on is that David should stop shooting rocks out his glass house.

Lol. Mustaine didn't fire anyone over drugs except when it affected their performance as w Chuck Behler; he was a drug addict himself. Firstly he fired Chris Poland and Gar coz they pawned his gear to get drugs. Jeff was fired coz he claimed he was poking his g-friend which he denied (underlying complications over a love letter he found from Doro Pesch to Dave made him jealous and erratic, having pursued her to no avail). Marty left coz he just had enough of playing thrash and wanted to play other kinds of music. Nick was fired over lack of commitment. The others left of their own accord mainly over creative differences and not being allowed to contribute material. We all know about Junior's story. This is why Deth are just a one man band now with salaried members. It's a Dave Mustaine solo project with limited contributions from others. As for Junior doing what he did which was foolish and juvenile, it didn't warrant him being fired from the band he founded with Dave. It was the straw that broke the camel's back as like before he wasn't allowed to contribute as much material as he wanted which is why David has many projects he's involved with that allow him to do so now.

I'm not gay, but Jeff does have that kind of look that would be hired by Hollywood to play the hot dude and hero that women can't resist lol. It's a shame, my favourite Mega album is the one with Jeff. Love his solos. Marty Friedman is technically impressive but is very boring. His solo career does show that. By the way, the only thrash metal album with Marty is Rust in Peace.

Being an intelligent individual, I don't pick up senseless fights regarding musical tastes, which are highly subjective. In fact, the whole Megadeth-Friedman era, except for Rust in Peace, is a collection of boring, commercial, and easy listening radio-friendly rock albums. Which ended up in the pop-rock album Risk. Friedman was a terrible influence to Mustaine, so it seems. Because 21st century Megadeth went back to kick ass Metal albums.

This is a foolish position.. Mustaine was not only right to ask Ellefson to leave.. He did it in a very fair manner.. He has said nothing bad about Ellefson since he was asked to leave.. Ellefson on the other hand has been flip flopping constantly on his time in the band and his relationship with Mustaine.. Just listen to Ellefson would you want to be in a musical partnership with someone that acts this way?.. No. I think Mustaine is done with it.. He wants to ride Megadeth out and have fun doing it.. Not just grin for cameras and appearances he wants a strong creative force to work with.. Like Kiko.. Ellefson hasn’t brought good ideas what he brought was used on Super Collider… Nuff said.. Listen to Ellefsons stuff any of it since his exit or just before it and it’s very clear he is no longer on the Megadeth creative page.. He is around the 97-02 era of the band and sounding more hard rock than metal.. He isn’t bringing the cuts he was before and he doesn’t have the stage presence or engagement he did before.. Now I don’t wish to throw mud at him but he has acted very poorly and attempted to make this about Mustaine being a meany and it’s all his fault and not what Ellefson did.. Which is why he was asked to leave.. As well as the childish and entitled attitude he brought to the last albums creative process.. He has told us in his own words that he didn’t even speak to Dave or seek to get involved or present during the albums making for a year before being asked to leave.. That he went up.. Heard the sounds without his tracks or ideas included and just left and didn’t go back… Does that sound like a team player?.. Does that sound like someone you’d want in the band at this stage?.. No.. Ask I said.. Mustaine wants a real creative.. Someone how’s in it to make a name for themselves and be a part of a bigger legacy in their own right.. That Kiko and Dirk have done just that.. People don’t miss past members now because they’ve fit into the band so well and pushing it forward.. For Ellefson to diminish their work and involvement is dishonest and just disingenuous.. The band is as strong as when he was there.. LoMenzo was well liked by fans during his time there and his work on the two albums he was on was great and still some of the best bass work on a Megadeth album post 2000s.. The bass on the new album is awesome as well.. Far from sloppy or diminished it sounds good and the grooves thick.. This comes back to Ellefson suing Mustaine in 2004 for control over Megadeth Inc… Ellefson lost.. Twice.. And was forced to pay damages to Mustaine and Megadeth.. Mustaine moved on.. Fans however still wanted them to reunite despite all this stuff… So after 6 years they did.. And all was good for a while.. But clearly Ellefson harboured a grudge over it.. And has the whole time.. He has constantly complained about not being as in control as he was before.. How he can’t be pushing Megadeth because they don’t pay him enough in the off time.. That everyone basically did nothing and got nothing made because Mustaine wouldn’t let them.. He’s talked so much shit.. If it was so bad why stick around 11 years.. Why act like it was a brotherhood until your asked to leave for doing inappropriate things with young fans?.. This guy has told us he is a pastor and practicing Christian he has preached the word of god at Megadeth meet-and-greets.. That is a facade. His latest effort has been to accuse Mustaine of being jealous of him making music and that Mustaine has attacked his new projects… Mustaine has made zero comment regarding Ellefson new projects outside.. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do. The only time he has rebuked Ellefsons nattering is when he said he had some parts in ‘a song on Super Collider’ that everyone liked but Mustaine wanted to remove and that he wasn’t happy with it being there.. Mustaine then said when asked about that.. The song is Kingmaker and it’s the first 20 seconds of the sound.. His issue with it is that the song is his.. He wrote it.. The song was completed and that Ellefson added the part at the front of Mustaines song without him present.. So he saw it as Ellefson seeking to take credit or obtain credits from things he didn’t do.. He also added that the part is stupid and has no connection to the song at all.. But he left it there to please Ellefson.. Rather different event when given the context.. Mustaine also encouraged Ellefson to sing a song on the new Megadeth album.. Until this all started to break down between them… To cap this off… One of Ellefsons new project Dieth has released their new album… On it is a song called ‘Heavy is the Crown’ in it the sound basically goes over how ‘Mustaine’ has lost his crown is afraid of death and is riddled with cancer…. Like… If it’s not clear to see who is the guilty party here at this point I don’t know what will.

Both are great. I stopped comparing because both albums are solid. Dystopia is darker and heavier while TSTDATD sounds more like endgame. Fun and fast.

@@H.E.M. I just gave them both a re-listen. That was fun! I think I come down on the side of TSTDATD because it's a little more varied and quite a bit longer without succombing to filler. It's a big success for them although I do think it would've been better if Ellefson's basslines were kept. The bass that ended up on the final cut just sounds like they had some rando come in and play after learning from playback and that's not the way you cut bass in my opinion.

Megadeth is maybe the most criticised music artist in my opinion mainly because of the hate against Dave Mustaine. Most comments on him are not positive even though these people have never met him. Therefore they are unable to truly judge his music objectively. The fact of the matter is most of Megadeth's music is timeless, no song sounds really old and outdated. So assuming greatness is defined by how it stands today, then I would say they are one of the top music artists. Their new songs I also think are generally solid.

@@TheExtinctSpecies We get what we see and we see a lot of Dave b*tching about being ousted from Metallica. So, from what I understand, he had actually been fired before he was fired. He was fired for pouring beer on Ron McGovney's bass after James kicked his dog? Metallica strikes me as a band where whatever Lars says goes and so my guess is if he made that determination that day that's what went. But of course he must've gotten invited back because the more famous dismissal came later when it seems it was for becoming a maniac when he drank too much. Wait, isn't this alcoholica? How much was he drinking? I don't know, but there is no doubt that Mustaine had a major hand in writing Metallica's first three albums. That's actually undeniable. So when he broke out with Megadeth and played even more insane guitar- haha, clearly my head exploded. That's Dave, though, just these insane over-the-top riffs. Nobody does them bigger or better. Nobody.

My opinion is that Dystopia is better, TSTDATD is a bit thrashier tho with fast riffs but overall I am leaning towards Dystopia being better.

They play peace sells fine (if is isn’t the start of touring because Dave doesn’t practice so he doesn’t play well the first couple shows) But they recently added Mechanix and In My Darkest Hour to the setlist
