What a player. His heart and fighting spirit will always be remembered. Also, he will be remembered as one of the best players to never win a GS. His versions from 2012 and 2013 were incredible, only overshadowed by the presence of the big 4 in top form. But just imagine that David Ferrer in the current tour (he would be a contender for almost every tournament). The guy will be missed. As for why he never won a slam, the main reason was, as he admitted, his serve. It was never a weapon. We can say he was "short" for a tennis player, and that didn't help him develop a powerful serve. Also, he never had a definitive shot. He was extremely solid from both wings, and his net game, though infrequent, was acceptable. But he lacked power on his shots. He never had a devastating backhand like Wawrinka, or a powerul forehand like Tsonga, Delpo or Verdasco, or easy power like Berdych, or a great serve like Feliciano López, all definitive shots that could decide the fate of a point by their own; he just had consistency, grit. That against the game of the big 4 was not enough. But it doesn't matter. He had an ilustrious career and he is definitely a legend of our generation. He is an example of never giving up. That is a lesson for life, for every person. Great David Ferrer.
Ferrer literally reached the Roland Garros 2013 final without losing a single set. The lad was amazing, always loved watching him play. He's probably one of the most underrated players of the last decade.
David was really a master at point construction, something he wasn't credited enough for. He knew his limitations and constructed the points accordingly usually forcing his opponent to an error or a drop shot which he was sure of chasing down. A class act. Thanks for the memories Daveeed. 🙏🙏
He can do that with his forehand as well. He hits that inside out so bad, that momentum can't be stopped and the opponent is tortured physically and mentally.
Exactly! He made his opponent run from side to side and he didn't mind if rallies got very long because more shots his opponents would chase down or even if he is running more than his opponent in a point, it actually benefits him more in a long run than winning a short point due to his incredible endurance. The fittest guy to ever play the game of tennis. Even watching his playing in his 40's he hasn't seemed to slowed down. He could still be the fittest guy if he would still be on tour. Thank you david so much for that about a decade when I watched almost all your matches. My favourite player since 2007!
He will definitely still run as 60 year old a better time in 10 km. Probably about 40 minutes like one player did from my badminton club. That is much better than most of the players can run on tour. Federer in 2004 was able to run 9300 meters in 40 minutes. Ferrer has run 10 km in 34 minutes which is totally unbelieveble time for a tennis player! But on the other hand his warm up included a 10 km jog every day and gym training. He also did every day some intensive bicycle training.@@YesSirPhil
I honestly had forgotten how good he is. With a few more inches to help his serve, I believe he would have won more Masters titles and contended in a few more GS finals. He had plenty of athleticism, speed, and skill.
@@masters.1000repeating every nonsense some clowns say doesn't make you an expert. The guy was 1,75m tall and dominated many rallies with heavy and precise FHs. If that doesn't scream talent I don't know what does Schwartzman for example is not as dominant in rallies as Ferrer (on average at least, at his peak he does have insane shotmaking ability) yet you won't find many people denying his talent. Why is that? I mean of course the guy is even 8 cm smaller than Ferrer, but he will likely have a worse career than Ferrer and yet is still unanimously considered as one of the most talented players on tour atm (deservedly so, to do what he does at 1,67m height is insane). Ferrer on the other hand reached one slam final, five slam SFs, won one Masters, 27 titles despite being way smaller than any other top player of his generation (which is a MASSIVE disadvantage) and is still considered an average talent. That just doesn't make sense.
All these top players say they are sorry to see Ferrer retire but secretly they are ecstatic not to play him again. Ferrer is not going to just lose a match, he will make you beat him.
He is an inspiration for all players... Never give up. He's my favorite player. I've never missed his matches. He's also Jimmy Connors 's favorite player...
What a fucking legend David was. I remember being a kid playing a regional tournament and meet him in the changing room of the tenis club. We were alone so he asked about my game and wish me luck. Such a humble guy. That day will be always on my memory.
Im really proud of what he has done in his carreer. Still amazed that Ferrer is a fellow citizen of mine and my father used to be his barber when he was a kid. Never thought someome could go so far as he did coming from here!!

He sure has surpassed Carlos Moya, Ferrero and many other Spanish champions in terms of greatness.. such a shame he had to play in the Golden Age or else he would've been a consistent winner on ATP circuit
Not even in your wildest dreams has Ferrer surpassed Carlos Moyá (Roland Garros champion, Australian Open finalist and former World #1) and speically Juan Carlos Ferrero (1 Roland Garros title, including 2 Roland Garros finals and 1 US Open final, plus 8 weeks as #1). To compare Ferrer with Ferrero is absurd. Ferrero is the third greatest Spanish player ever behind Nadal and Santana.
My mom bought me a Prince EXO Tour 100 for $100 off of Craigslist as my first tennis racket in high school. That's when I became a big Ferrer fan. I miss that racket. I miss Ferrer. He is a class act and you can see the players applaud many of the shots because they respect the hell out of his grind too. That guy would run down anything. Great tennis player and good man to look up to. Thank you, David!
With a more powerful forehand and the mentality to risk a bit more and put more balls on the lines, and not just putting them in play, I think he would have won more big titles. Nevertheless, he is a legend to me. What I call an unique kind of player. Such a warrior, never giving up any point and never stopping running. + a great person.
David Ferrer was the scrappiest player out there. His speed and endurance was magical. I never saw anyone "lose" so many points but win them! Beyond amazing!
For people who say that Rafa's playing style is to be blamed for his injuries, despite being 4 years older than Rafa and playing a much more intense defensive game, Ferrer hasn't declined that much physically as Nadal. Clear proof that playing style is not the main cause of Nadal's injuries.
Ferrer declined much more physically than Nadal tbh. Towards the end of his career ferrer hardly won any matches against top players whereas Nadal is still there up at the top winning GS and masters
@@maharshibhattacharyya1618 Not even the same age. Ferrer is almost Federer's age and he does not have a better physique than them. It is a normal, understandable and reasonable decline I would say. He even has better technique than Nadal. The footwork is much better, his strokes are not forced. Nadal is just a monster that endures a lot of pain. I just do not know why this guy does not decline. People like Haas and Safin do not play like, yet had more serious injuries than Nadal. The guy just does not make sense.
Some of those lungbusting gets are absolutely beyond belief. If this guy wasn't a chainsmoker at some point he might have been the greatest player of all time.
Falta un video del mejor devolvedor de pelotas del atp Nicolás Massu, doble medallita de oro en Atenas y ex número 8 del mundo... Ademas de que corría más que nadie...
david ferrer has admitted that only if nadal is not on hundred percent does he have chance against nadal. nadal has played ferrer plenty of times when he is one hundred percent. nadal never had problem beating ferrer. nadal is eleven time rolland garros champion, has eleven barcelona and rome titles, six madrid. Your remark is fantasy.
