David Gilmour's legendary Pompeii tones are here! 2016 Pompeii has this sharp, nasaly tones on it and we're going to see Gilmour's signal chain for most of the songs, listen to extracted guitar sounds and try to get them with pedals in our bedrooms. Especially Faces of Stone and Comfortably Numb tones are hard to get because big muff and tube driver is hard to replicate, but we did very, very good!

Great video (as always). I agree that the best version of Time was the original studio version. When you listen to it, it sounds like the speakers are going to explode. So raw. Also agree that (in my opinion) this is the best performance of comfortably numb. Thanks for the tutorial! 😊

I think what defines the Pompeii tone is the Lehle Parallel. Gilmour used it to blend the Muff and the Mistress, and it keeps the sharpness of the Muff while giving it the modulated tone!
@mustyguitar

That’s only for comfortably numb and run like hell. Pompeii tone has almost no modulation other than those 2

Hey Musty! Thank you very much for this 🎉 Do you feel the same volume drop with the flange if place after everything? I do have to put a boost before the mooer because in a band context the volume and presence drop is too nasty.
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar 6 месяцев назад
thank you Frank, yes there's a little volume drop, mooer eleclady doesn't have a mix knob, you can just use a boss ge-7 with all the knobs in the middle, but volume a tad higher, that could be a boost without changing anything on the eq board. also, if you're not going to "add" the flange effect in the middle of solo, it shouldn't be a problem because you can ready your signal chain before the song, even on a band context

fantastic video and amazing sounds!! I would love to hear your opinion on stratocester body wood. Especiially if you think for Gilmour sounds it makes a huge difference of you choose ash or alder. In my opinion in typical Gilmour sounds a hear the typical alder body sound. But for shure this is very subtle difference so I think one can a chieve great results also with an ash body. But again imo Alder is a tad closer to the typical Gilmour sound. If you like I'd love to hear you spend a word on that topic in one of the upcoming vids if you like? ;)
@gertjeeeh
@gertjeeeh 6 месяцев назад
Here we go again.... Guitar body wood hahahaha. It has so little impact (if any) on tone. Even changing your pick or the way you pick has a way bigger influence than that. Just forget about it, honestly.
@67er_matze97
@67er_matze97 6 месяцев назад
many times when I hear a strat demo I think like this sounds alder or this sounds ash. Believe it or not - I'd say that 95% I am right when I have the chance to check the specs. This is for sure just a guess. And it definitely needs a certain amp setting and playing style to bring out the difference. No scientific approach. Also a Gibson SG sounds different that a LP. For sure this is subtle difference. But subtleties make a difference at least in my opinion ;) But thanks anyway for your response and opinion! @@gertjeeeh

to have the same clean sound I had to put 3 compressors in the chain at the same time (digital chain), to have the same "snap", perhaps David gets it with his hands, how many like me?

hi, i think your new device is adding a buffer right out of your strat which keeps all sounds more crisp on the top end but too much actually. Try again with normal cable and let me know.

This LIVE, like "hey hey rise up", has a particularly noticeable rough, thick, sharp overload on the guitar solos. I couldn't achieve this with tubedriver and hi-tone in any way. Is this Alessandro's overloaded tone?
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar 4 месяца назад
I have the same problem, that’s something else that I can’t get %100, but I think I can mimic the sound a bit, just like in this video. I also believe tone is in the finger is bullshit :) so there’s probably a way, maybe not for bedroom setup
@beyondfloyd
@beyondfloyd 4 месяца назад
Very happy we think alike. This overload is the magic of recent gilmour tones. Unfortunately Alessandro is too expensive and there are too few videos and audios about it for me to be sure if this overdrive is from the Alessandro redbone special. hopefully some amps or pedals will come along that can be used as alternatives to the Alessandro redbone special.@@mustyguitar

You said there are two delays in Syd's theme at Shine on, but in your demonstration you only used one delay, could you tell the MS of each of the delays separately?
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar 4 месяца назад
Well I can’t be the only guy who plays how he/she likes, no? 2 delays are overwhelming to me. It sounds like one is 310ms and the other is 370ms or something. I gotta set it up to be sure but I’m abroad at the moment

@@mustyguitar I've been obsessed with Gilmour's sound since I started playing guitar (about 11 years ago) and having met you through this video last night it already surprised me positively, you come as close as Bjorn Riis from Gilmourish (which for me was my biggest reference to Gilmour's sound so far), congratulations on your work here.

I’ve noticed Gilmour had his flenger before the delay pedal. You have after. Why?
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar 6 месяцев назад
Honestly, I placed flanger instead of my second delay, I didn’t want to change the cables and stuff, it was easier to put it there, ideally, it’s better to have it before delays

@@mustyguitarthanks. I was confused a bit :))) Another question about EQ. Should it go after Mod effects and before Delay, or can be before Mod (chorus, flendger etc) pedals as well? Thanks. I mean what i see on Davids board
@mustyguitar
@mustyguitar 6 месяцев назад
@@MK-tj5bf I use eq after the pedal I want to change. Meaning, I use (let's say) blues driver, I want to cut some high end, I use the eq after blues driver. generally I have it after drive pedals and before modulation pedals.

Had the Compulator but it's a pedal for having only one setting that you never change.. they the compression knob interacts with the volume knob makes it pretty useless otherwise
