When ever I hear "trust me" "You won't get a better deal" "x years of experience" "I'm the best" "I'm a Chrisitian"- I roll my eyes and hang up the phone.
The thing about contractors and home repair people is this...even if that roof is brand new...like even if it was done a few minutes ago...if you invite a roofer to come see it 80% of the time he will tell you the last roofer did a bad job. And this is true for any home repair you need....painting, install a door, cement work, carpentry, etc...every contractor always says the last guy did a bad job.
Most time previous people Did do a bad job though, lol. Most people hire whoever is the cheapest and those guys cut corners to speed up the work or they don’t know what they are doing
Bris Vegas true. He doesn’t hold a gun to them saying they have to accept the work and pay it. They can charge whatever they want, you don’t have to pay it if you don’t want the work. The high prices are only hurting the contractor if he doesn’t get enough business bc of it
He can charge whatever the customer is willing to pay but he is wanting to replace stuff that does not need replacing, yet tells the customer the opposite.
"another 25 years" as he walks away pissed off that you completely wasted his time, gas, money, and potential profits from other jobs to play your stupid game.
So what ur saying is that u do every type of work possible and NEVER need to hire any type of service related contractors? Believe it or not there are actually honest ones out there that still need paid. Your comment makes no sense whatsoever
okay so you report on stuff we already know , why not give us the names of the roofers that were honest and show there faces like you did to the frauds
Wow- this should really be a big wake up call for all the homeowners who find their roofer from Craigslist. On another note, the "spray option" would shorten the life of her roof, as it's only to be used on low slope roofs w rolled material, and would void any possible warranty the h.o. may of had.
Nothing is more expensive than a bad roof. Our first roof was $10k. Left $4,500 in needed repairs. Took us to court stating we were trying to steel from him. HA! it didn't work. Then I discovered he had not allowed my fiancé to pay a deposit. So when we went to the State Licensing Board our claim was denied on a technicality. Because there was no financial loss. Even though he was billing us $10k. Then he tried to take it to Supreme Court instead of small claims. Then litigated this for 2 years. In the end we were forced to settle out of court for fear of having to pay $50k in court fees to defend ourselves. And even an attorney stepped in upon the 2nd year. She advised us to settle for $7,500 & then pay her $6,000 so we didn't end up with $50k in Supreme Court case fees. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. That roofer filed a second claim asking for $31,000 in attorney fees. It was denied. That was our only moment of justice. THE GOOD NEWS IS ........ ............................................... RESEARCH PAID OFF BY NOTICING OTHER ............................................... ISSUES WE NEEDED TO ADDRESS: - We discovered there was not enough air flow in our attic. .........We resolved this........we had to add 20 Soffit Vents & 2 Attic Vent Fans. - Electrical inspection revealed fault wiring in our attic & we fixed it. - Discovered more dry-rot in our attic roof + chimney closet. We fixed it. - Discovered we needed to increase insulation from R5 to R50. - We added a cat walk to our attic for easy access Only $200. - We added lighting in our attic $75. - We replaced 2 new bathroom fans. More powerful and whisper quiet. - We added 2 house vent fans (to get rid of hot air in summer & odors). - We added $400 in structural strengthening to the rafters of our roof which helps protect us in an earthquake. WHEN IT CAME FOR THE NEW ROOF. - We stripped off the inferior roofing to expose all dry rot. - We repaired all dry rot. - We replaced all the plywood "in the eves" with 1 inch Ply. - We added a 1/2 plywood to the rest of the roof. - All new wood in the Eaves & Fascia and Trim received 2 coats of prime & 2 coats of paint prior to installing (all 6 sides). - Added a layer of Grace Brand "Ice and Water shield" gutter to gutter. ............This made our roof water tight UNDER the Roofing Shingles. ............This also also gave each shingle nail a water tight gasket. ............This also increased the tinsel strength in lateral roof movement. - We Upgraded to roofing shingles by Malarkey Brand [Legacy shingles]. ............This 50 Year Shingle will protect the water barrier created BY "Grace Brand - Ice and water shield" 50-100 yrs. LASTLY we upgraded by blowing in additional R45 insulation in the attic. HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT YOU? [a] - Have a "Termite inspector" review your entire structure before you start. WHY?... You can then present it to your roofing contractor and window contractor before they start. If they miss anything? they pay for it =Not you. [b] - Replace all the plywood "in the eves" with 1 inch Ply. - Add a 1/2 plywood to the rest of the roof (Makes eves and roof level) - All new wood in the Eaves & Fascia and Trim received 2 coats of prime & 2 coats of paint prior to installing (all 6 sides). Any cuts @installation need to be primed. [c] Added a layer of Grace Brand "Ice and Water shield" gutter to gutter. ............This makes your roof water tight UNDER the Roofing Shingles. ............This also gives each shingle nail a water tight gasket. ............This also increased the tinsel strength in lateral roof movement. ...BONUS... it preps your home for solar in the future. Leaking will almost be impossible. AND, we welcome any one to contact us to take a tour so they can also have a roof that will last 50-100 years. & FYI .... We hired Straight-Up roofing from Antioch, CA. Derrick is Fantastic.
We had a water leak in the front yard. The first group charged us a pile of cash but never finished the job & never came back. The second group said we needed to have them dig up the whole drive way for $7000.00. After going into survival mode & doing our own research, my neighbor & I ended up fixing it for $200.00.
I will never do business with anyone using their "faith" as a selling point. Jesus is not your salesman. If you're truly a God fearing man then people will know what type of man you are by your actions. I feel those who feel compelled to put a fish or "Christian Owned"on their card are over compensating for their lack of morals.
Roofing is mostly a cash business. Many roofers are alcoholics, drug addicts, and probation violators. Ive been a licenced electrician over 40 years, and when people ask me for a lead on a good roofer, I tell them the truth, I dont know a single totally honest roofer.
Yo that first guy wasn’t a bad guy, he told them the roof was in good condition. The sealant he was talking about isn’t bad to do to roofs that Are 5-10 years old. I agree opinions on the use of it is arguable on how well it works but if you have a good roof and your calling your expressing concern which means you want to go the extra step and seal it. He was t even really crazy high.
In my experience it's hard to find a competent roofer. When I needed some work done I interviewed several roofers until I found one that I was comfortable with. One guy that came by that I asked to do an estimate said he couldn't do one. The reason why: He forgot his ladder so he couldn't get up on the roof. I'm not kidding. I'm a forgiving person, but if a roofer is so absent minded that he forgets to bring a ladder, that is pushing my patience. Anyway, El Nino arrived one year late.
Yep they do this on the daily my father is an honest hard working roofer, does the jobs on his own too. He's been a roofer more than 30 years & he runs into this all the time. When ppl get a second opinion and my dad gives the quote ppl are surprised and explain the previous quote and my dad is shocked at the bs other roofers spout and the crazy prices.
I had a call for an estimate and I when out did it and called them back gave them cost and time frame. Two days later their Neighbor called up and said he needed one to after seeing my truck park across the street, so I gave him one and he was good to go. The day we started the owner ask me why I was up on the roof across the street the owner is a roofing contractor to but charged way to much so that's why he called me. So to make a long story longer for next 6/8 months I told every homeowner if they called that company and wasted his time I would give them $200 off, when he figure it out he was pissed, but what he didn't know is all my customers are from word of mouth and no matter what he charged he wasn't going to get the job. 25+ years in the East Bay Tri City Area California.
I thank God I have one of the best and honest contractors out there. When I move, I plan to pay for him to fly to another state because I'm too old to trust anyone else. They all play such a good game on unsuspecting home owners that you don't know even know you're being scammed.
hey thats a good show.. have u ever done an episode on corrupt/lazy termite inspectors and prices. Im a termite guy myself and I'm fed up with all the rotten apples that ruin it for the rest.
All these guys should be regulated... roofers, electricians, plumbers, its ridiculous they charge 1800 bucks for something that takes 15min- half hour.. its like wtf ya think this is 10000 bucks an hour get bent..
I live in Sacramento Ca, and I hire this company name Yancy home improvement and they give me estimate for 22,000 then later add it 10,000 dollars more and on top of that they broke the gas pipe and added another 10,000 because they said the pipe was very rusty and old and the fix has to come out of my pocket!!😭😭😭 Now I don’t know what to do!!!!
It isn't just roofers, this happens with any skilled trade. I was in retail auto repair for 26 years. I probably don't need to tell you what happens in a garage. There is a sock full of hidden camera videos out there exposing crooked auto repair shops. Bottom line is you are hiring someone to take care of something you don't know how do do yourself. And of course you'd like to get it done as inexpensive as possible. Who wouldn't? I don't have money to waste either. If a contractor or business owner doesn't have the publicity to back his/her name, you don't want them touching anything you own. I firmly believe in word of mouth. A guy/girl advertising on Craigslist obviously can't afford legit advertising and doesn't have the reputation to back his/her work. If I need something done, I don't go to the phone book or internet. I ask my friends, coworkers, neighbors, people from my church, and anyone else I know. After awhile I hear the same name come up repeatedly and that's who I ask for an estimate. Chances are they charge more than anyone else because they've earned that name.
I do roof inspection 20 times a week I do a 25 point inspection I have a red roof replace now over due , yellow roof its ready next 6months and a green roof 3-5 years of life your choice its amazing how many green roofs I see from online clients that want it replaced now in Washington its crazy but we dont need to resort to lieing to clients to get bussiness.
this kind of issue it can actually go both ways of scamming really, then ones that said its good could be saying that just for the roof to be damaged from a big storm and you call them back for repairs which gives them money lol
Guy goes into a tire store "do i need tires" sales guy "you can wait 2-3 months but yeah your differently need new tires".... what does this reporter expect? You get 2-3 estimates, do your homework then make a decision.
As a Hispanic construction worker, I am embarrassed. These shameful “contractors" are ruining it for the honest ones. At least these guys have been exposed and hopefully they never make a dime in this field.
I had a Hispanic crew build 6 chicken houses for me. They were really hard workers but they would take some short cuts. Best work ethic I've ever seen tho
@@benitomazzaro6375 I honestly told them the price. I acted as my own contractor. There is basically a price per square foot that's standard and that's what they do it for. The craftsmanship isn't as good as a normal "american" crew, but they are so much faster and efficient, so it makes up for it
what do you expect the first guy was an expert, the other guys are not, however it was in their opinion. I dont think they tried to scam, they were just adding in options to the customer based on their knowledge. They may have thought they were doing right. The customer can take it or leave it.
While I too frown upon it, I don't find this such a big deal like they are making it out to be.. you called a business and they'll naturally want to sell you something. You walk into a MacDonalds they'll ask if you want to upsize regardless of whether you look like you needed extra calories.. if you expect someone to come down and say, "oh your roof is perfect! Good for you!" You're pretty delusional..
That's why you buy an extended warranty for your bigger appliances... In fact my opinion only this is where the scams started in the first place. They manufacturer nine out of ten hires these odd ball companies and they over charge the manufacturer as warranty work... Same With Insurance work then the rates go up for johnny homeowner It needs to stop.
Ok it's one thing to go after people who are actively out there using predatory tactics to force you to buy a good or service you don't need but come on now guys. You are the ones calling these people out, what do you expect, for them to not try and sell you anything? it's one thing to bust people for doing bad work or scamming people by selling them a new roof but this is just ridiculous, none of those guys really did anything that bad or wrong. you call someone out just to do this, I mean come on now, everyone's time is valuable and it's not that wrong for a professional to suggest or inform the client of potential steps they can take to prevent a problem from occurring in the future.
