David Phelps has been a shining light in the gospel community for years. He sang for many years with the Gaither Men's Group and is a frequent participant in their homecoming performances. Everything he does is amazing and people just stand in awe. Plus, you can "feel" his worship in everything he does. He truly loves Jesus and shines that light all the time. I don’t know how people hold it together. I heard this for the first time about a year ago. I was driving on the freeway and had to pull off to the side of the road, and sobbed uncontrollably for about 20 minutes. I was a wreck for the rest of the day, just crying periodically.

Loved your reaction. I dont know how anyone cant feel what you felt and what anyone who listens to David will feel. He touches your soul. His voice his straight from God. So many great songs sung by him are amazing. He still has an amazing voice at 50+, but I think his older stuff is by far the best. We Shall Behold Him and He's Alive are awesome, Let Freedom Ring, End of the Beginning, No More Night, Water, Heaven's Shore, Live Like a King, and there are more more and more.......He even does an amazing Star Spangled Banner crossed with Led Zepelin.

I have been so blessed to see David live 11 times now and have been following him for more than 20 years. He is easily the best male vocalist in the world and has been for many years...and it is not even close. His range, tone, clarity, power and tenderness in his singing is like I have never heard from anyone ever before. The best....and maybe more importantly, he is the most gracious and humble guy you could ever meet. Totally genuine...I know....I have meet him many times now, his wife and his mom and dad. Genuinely wonderful people.

David is a graduate of Baylor University in Texas and majored in music. ( as anyone can tell)In my opinion I have never ever heard this song sang any better than David's rendition on this video. When David was with the Gaither Vocal Band, the group sang "Let Freedom Ring. The song is awesome but when David finished the song he about brought the house down. The man has the voice of an angel.

There is no doubt David is one of THE voices EVER but I'm always impressed by the very end of this video when Bill Gaither pulls him back out of the crowd and he's so humble and celebrates those around him even though he was the soloist and did such an incredible job.

I am not religious... but I have been listening to music for 70 + years.... I have witnessed some stupendous performances but this.... THIS IS THE GREATEST SINGING PERFORMANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN... I now send this out every Christmas Eve to friends in the Philippines... and London.. and points throughout the country. I always opine that David Lee Phelps hits a note at the end of this song that will make Lucciano Pavarotti sit up and cheer...! It is obvious that this was a once in a lifetime performance because David was clearly enraptured and imbued by the absolute power of his Christian belief. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
