It was funny how Mr. Gelbs attributed Mr. Robinson's son David, as saying that his father was "a man of small words and big actions." I kind of laughed at that and thought of Mr. Robinson conversing solely in sentences of limited vocabulary rife with monosyllabic words. Thankfully his son corrected him by saying that Mr. Robinson was "a man of few words and big actions." Further, on reading the things Mr. Robinson did off the field while playing baseball and subsequently when he retired, it was apparent that Mr. Robinson was an incredible spokesperson for the NAACP and for the coffee brand _Chock Full 'o Nuts_ as well as being an executive for the company. He started a bank in Harlem as well as a clothing store in the city for those who were discriminated against, as well as a housing company that worked with HUD to develop low-cost housing. In interviews, his keen knowledge of federal agencies was quite apparent. His widow Rachel, who has a masters of nursing degree, and not to be outdone, started the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which has provided scholarships for thousands of students. Jackie Robinson clearly outshone all those uneducated baseball types who were vicious to him. These things manifested [why] Mr. Rickey chose him.
