My favorite player of all time... This moment was beyond well deserved. Tom Seaver was, is, and always will be the NY Mets personified. It's a damn shame he never got to enjoy this moment with his family while he was still here. I guess we can blame the Wilpon's for that debacle and so many others. The one, the only Tom Seaver... Rest Easy Tom Terrific. We are blessed and you are missed...

My all time favorite pitcher. For so many years, he carried the Mets on his back. He was a decent hitter as well.

Trivia question: What pitcher was inactive on the Red Sox bench during the 1986 WS against the Mets? Answer: Tom Seaver. Things would probably have ended a lot differently if the Mets had to face Seaver instead of Calvin Shiraldi in game 6. It's unimaginable today to believe that the Mets let him go twice for almost nothing.

Can you imagine mets fans heads exploding? Obviously want to win a world series but against Tom Seaver? That is like a bargain the devil would offer you.

Golden boy.ill take seaver in a big game over Gibson and marichall
@jamestillman9810
@jamestillman9810 2 года назад
I would take Seaver for consistency during the regular season but would take Gibson during the post season. Both pitchers were similar but Gibson was ferocious during big games in his prime. Look at there post season records. Seaver 3 wins, 3 losses 2.77 and 2 complete games in 8 starts. Gibson 7 wins, 2 losses, 1.89 ERA, 8 complete games in 9 starts, including 7 consecutive complete game victories in a row, and the record for strikeouts for a single game 17. During their prime Gibson had more stamina, Seaver had a longer peak.

@jamestillman9810
@jamestillman9810 2 года назад
@@michaellauletti6552 I agree that Seaver had tremendous stamina and am not short-changing him at all, he was top notch. But Gibson's stamina was even greater than that. Gibson had two seasons in a row where he had 56 complete games in 71 starts. Casey Stengel rated Gibson's stamina higher than any modern pitcher he had ever seen. Part of reason why Gibson didn't have as long a career was, he pitched and played with such intensity in a short period of time that he permanently injured himself stealing a base and shortened his career. Seaver had powerful legs and his drive and kick delivery was something to behold. Gibson was a super athlete whose delivery was more unorthodox; he literally flew towards first base. Gibson would steal bases, make incredible fielding plays, hit homeruns, he would do almost anything to win. Seaver himself recognized the challenges Gibson faced were far beyond what he had to go through. Seaver said he had the advantage of a lot of training on pitching at a young age. Gibson's college baseball team wouldn't even accept Black players so Gibson became an all American basketball player in college. His first major league manager basically told him not to attend the pitchers meeting because he wasn't smart enough and needed to concentrate on throwing strikes. Seaver, who was knowledgeable about baseball history and what Jackie Robinson went through said he tremendous for Gibson because he became a great pitcher in spite of what he went through.

The Mets offense was so brutal that Seaver was 262 and 68 when the Mets mainly scored 3 or more runs and 48 and 135 when they scored 2 or fewer runs and his era was 2.52. 48 and 135 with a 2.52 era! That is what I remember, poor Tom being screwed playing with crap in NY. His winning% from 1967 to 77 was over 63% and the rest of the Mets were 47%. Is there any other reason why he was called The Franchise. Take away Tom Seaver and the Mets were a 47% team from 67 to 77. M Donald Grant and company were a disgrace!

Goes to show why wins/losses is a trash stat for a pitcher. It’s a team effort.
@jacksmith5692
@jacksmith5692 2 года назад
@@chisatofan4769 Also shows how great Seaver was. He was over 63% from 67 to 77 as a Met and the rest of the team won 47% of the games. The Franchise for a reason.
