What’s atrocious and so wicked is that law enforcement, media and local, state and federal leaders were/are complicit in our oppression, terrorism and murder. Until more people act for justice and inclusion, America is a democracy in lies only.

Professor Hunter, great piece. The Wilmington example has been discussed extensively In Class but I think a lesson drawing from your question "What are white people fighting for?" could greatly broaden that discussion and provide more historical insights

Me too, I had no clue and I stay 30 min from WIL. I did not learn about in High School! My grand Dad worked on the ships in Wilmington, NC. Great information! Wilmington has changed a lot; white people drastically moved /moving in from the west and north. Key black communities have been lost to development! Great information ℹ️

I was born and raised in Wilmington NC , my best friends Grandmother told me about the riot of 1898 , she was a survivor , I was a freshman in high school when she told us the stories , her testimony is at the library of UNCW .

Lorenzo, It would be so important for you to document this important testimony from the Elder Grandmother...for generations to come. Use a variety of media i.e audio, video, books, photographs, simple art work drawings. These could be great gifts for loved ones birthdays, family reunions, graduations etc. You have some powerful truths to tell that could be so encouraging. Do what you can!

Great interview. Tulsa was not the only thriving city for blk people. Few know about Wilmington NC. My ancestors lived in the area but never talked about it. I have found that folks from NC are the most mannerly in the country . Real talk. They will say yes ma'm , no ma'm both blk and wht. Accurate history needs to be taught to all children. This is the reason the powers that be do not want us to know our history- so we may be bound to repeat it.

Every time history repeats itself the price goes up." Unknown. It worries me : America can’t pay when the bill comes due. We often think man has to subdue man. That’s against the Source teaching. Mankind literally tells the creator of all “ your creation of anything other than my whiteness isn’t good”. Wow ! Audacity! Yes , Professor I sit with this thinking and knowing it will not get better. However I also know this, I’ve been reminded of my own humanity and all is well.

When I was a kid the white neighborhood we moved into greeted us with bricks through our windows, graffiti on the walls and cars driven through our yard tearing up the grass, and some of the perpetrators were the sons of the people who sold us the damn house. And then there were the very few white neighbors who risked and then suffered ostracism to help us put the house back in order. I didn't know the specific details of so many incidents but I sure learned the truth of this nation early.

I think the gentleman writer explained it crystal clearly. America was established to be a white country for white people. 🤔Do white supremacists even know that Christianity is based on the light and teachings of Jesus The Christ?

@@karenl7786 Thankyou for replying. The 70’s! That’s when I was a kid, too. I cannot imagine the level of stupidity and hate it takes to do that? As a parent in 2021, I would struggle to find a solution that would not end with me in jail, because I’m sure local police were useless. Glad your family survived that terrorism.

I have hope but not for the U.S.A. Once the U.S. became an empire the clock started ticking. When the Soviet Union fell and the U.S. invaded the graveyard of empires it became clear to me the fall will happen in this lifetime. Since the U.S. cannot be reformed I have hope that what rises from the ashes will be a place of cooperation rather than domination. Otherwise it'll just self destruct and vanish and that's not a bad thing either.

I purchased a 22 Ruger rifle for sport shooting before the run on guns in 2008. The only rifle club to learn gun safety, how to care for and operate my rifle required NRA membership so I joined the NRA. I took the safety class and started target practice. My goal is the senior Olympics. I believe in the second amendment. It protects our right as black people to bear arms too. Think about that. Recognize that firearms and ammunition is getting increasingly difficult to find in any city regardless of its size. Rural communities have gun shops. Think about that, hard.

The similarities described of the event in 1898 Wilmington gives me goosebumps, just thinking of the tribal violence that occurred during the 2007 elections in Kenya, Africa. The opposition had vowed to eliminate one tribe, calling them "the snake that had to be killed, by all means necessary". Unfortunately for Kenyans, they don't have an exit strategy......apart from getting involved at the grassroot levels, standing up against the elite MisLeaders. 365 days till our next General elections. Fingers crossed it'll be peaceful 🙏

As always I tell people this nation wont, cant and dont change. The ideals at its core will never change when we are 14% of the population. Leave this country. Look at the olympics. We are everywhere. No place is perfect but a lot of places are not the U.S. we can thrive anywhere as black people.
