Day 10 | Breakfast with Cows & Mikes Place | Pacific Crest Trail 2022 

When I work in the wind, in the high desert my throat always gets the way you described yours. I have it right now. It's planting season and the wind is a howlin. 1 Cepacol will kick that throats ass. FYI, I had my first date with my Wife in Idyllwild.

The tree at 4:35 is a Manzanita or Arctostaphylos. The flowers are small which make it difficult for insects to enter for nectar/pollen. The flowers evolved to be buzz pollinated by native bees which release pollen when a bee buzzes its wings near the flower. Evoluationary facts like that blow my mind all the time while hiking and getting to know moreabout the native fauna. Manzanita is also in the Blueberry family (Ericacea) which means most flower morphology is similar throughout the family and helps with plant identification.

The grain in the sunrise shot. Just golden!! Nice work. And the rock worn down by generations!! That gave me goosebumps.

It's just amazing how lush, green and blooming the "desert" can be, such a paradise! Love your close ups, they have poster quality, big thank you for your hard work to bring us daily enjoyment of the trail!

Awesome photography of spectacular scenery, especially the sun through the wheat shot (or whatever it was). I was also impressed by the long sections of flat hiking. I'm glad it's not all torture.

Hey Kelly! I love early morning miles especially with a killer sunrise! So great having Toasty in the videos so often, going to be so different when he’s off trail for the bachelor party. Cool info about the mill stone. I love seeing things like that in the landscape. In case it’s something you may care about, try to be mindful when using the term “native American”. Most native people prefer to be called by their specific Tribe name or “American Indian” or “Indigenous American”. I know on the reservation my family lived on (Crow Indian Reservation in MT) some of the Tribe had a big issue the term “Native American”. Just thought you might want to know. So cool to actually get to meet Mike! Heard nothing but good things about that place. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

This is an odd question that I’ve not seen answered on other thru hiking videos , how do you dig a hole if the ground is frozen? You don’t have to answer if this is too odd.
