Two days of 100% accuracy .. you have clearly become G.M strength forget road to 2000 this is road to 2500 👍🏻

Nice win, opening knowledge paid off and helped you gain early time advantage.

I think you misunderstood us. When we say don't waste your time studying openings, it means, Don memorize then, just study the fundamentals of general openings. If you want to pass 1400 you need middlegame and endgame knowledge

This demonstrates why the people saying studying openings are totally wrong. Every game has an opening. Barely half have a meaningful endgame.

All the comments about “you played with 100% accuracy” are moronic. Patrick played memorised opening moves and his opponents in the last two games committed catastrophic blunders. If Patrick doesn’t fix the problems with his game and clock management his rating will continue to yo-yo depending on if he or his opponents blunder.

Great game Patrick. You learnt a lot about chess during these 454 days. Trust your instinct and have the courage to play fast, like you did in this game. Of course checking for your opponents ideas and threats but don't overthink easy positions. Play the natural moves and see how your game develops.

Seems like Emma is actually a lucky charm. A few barks here and there got the opponent to blunder. Well done Patrick (and Emma, I guess)

Somebody below pointed a right comment. There is no long term advantage in learning opening at this game level, besides king gambit and other tricky one. Use your time in endgames, that is how you improve your ELO

Hey Patrick, first time here. I’m an older guy, late 50s. I think it’s great that you’ve set this goal and play each Day to get there! I was wondering if you supplement your play with educational material? If so I’d like to recommend GM Shmirnov’s Remote Chess Academy RU-vid Channel! Fantastic content and an awesome teacher! Hope you check him out. Cheers.

I don't get people saying you shouldn't study openings. Winning the opening can win you the game.

Yes, you could say this win is tied to you knowing the opening. You could also say your opponent lost cause they played poorly. How does such a win improve your understanding of chess, what did you learn? Your rating goes up, but next time you play against a player of similar strength who does know the opening, you might lose again if you will blunder. That's why there is no long term merit in learning openings until you reach roughly 2000 strength. Ask any (good) coach.
@steve.k4735
@steve.k4735 Месяц назад
I strongly agree in principle and have said the same, however some very sharp openings like the Kings Gambit or Vienna Gambit do require some knowledge if you are going to play them as it’s a quick loss if not, so if Patrick plays the exchange French he can wing it but here he needs a bit .. obviously the Italian game would not but he will not switch so best he understands a bit
@MrRobWalter
@MrRobWalter Месяц назад
@@steve.k4735 sure, I do agree with that. So maybe a better way to phrase what I was trying to say is: just because you win a (or many) game(s) thanks to your knowledge of one particular, sharp opening, is not an argument for spending time and energy studying openings in general. Again, these wins are actually worthless when looking at the goal of improving your general chess understanding, cause at a level of 1500 strength, you cannot easily abstract things from those games and apply it to others.
@fritzlange7934
@fritzlange7934 Месяц назад
The first half of what you said makes sense but “there is no long term merit in learning openings until you reach roughly 2000 strength” is nonsense. The intricacies of different openings take years to master so you have to start young. The point is of course that you don’t spend too much time learning openings and neglect match play, chess theory, puzzles etc.
@steve.k4735
@steve.k4735 Месяц назад
@@MrRobWalter agreed openings are not what he lacks, he needs positional understanding far far more, he often swaps a great piece for a weak one because they are both worth 3 pawns or leaves a backwards pawn on a open file etc, so in general I strongly agree with you
@MrRobWalter
@MrRobWalter Месяц назад
@@fritzlange7934 well, I guess all the coaches I had, including GM and IM titled players, include nonsense then in their training.

You’re gonna need minimum 5 years to hold 2000 rating. A lot of your chess strength will unfortunately come from sheer experience.
