On day 5 of our EBC trek, we continue on from Tengboche to Dingboche and finally get above the tree line. We're starting to feel some of the effects of the elevation and climate (ie. sleep deprivation from waking up in the middle of the night, freezing our buns off, etc.). But, luckily, there are enough great people around us to keep our spirits high with good jokes and heartfelt renditions of Bob Marley songs.
Day 6 is supposed to be a "rest day" in Dingboche, but if we've learned anything at this point we know "rest" just means extra hiking. Our goal for the day is to make it (close) to the Nangkartshang Peak - approximately 16000 ft in elevation. This is the highest we've ever hiked, and a huge undertaking for us. Find out if we make it!
Here are some details that may help you plan your own EBC adventure!
- Trekking Company: www.greenvalle... (highly recommend)
- Guide: Ambar, WhatsApp +9779862975820 (highly recommend)
- Restaurant we ate at in Shomare: Sonam Restaurant
- Hotel we stayed at in Dingboche: The Mountain Heritage Inn, / the-mountain-heritage-...

Very nice videos guys! Did Gokyo lakes last year and will go back in 2025. Two questions: did u guys take diamox and what was your exact travel time? I am trying to figure out what time in early spring I should go. Thanks a lot, can’t wait for the next video 🤩

That's awesome - I'm so glad you're going back for EBC! We did not take diamox and were okay - if you do plan to take it, the only thing I'd recommend is to start taking it before you start the trek to see how your body responds to it. Our guide told us some tales of folks who has bad side effects from it. We did the EBC + Gokyo trek, and we were on the trail from March 10th to March 24th (2024). The weather is generally good during this time of year, but we did experience a 1 day delay in getting back to Kathmandu because the weather was bad in Lukla. Let us know if you have any other questions!

I'm surprised you guys aren't using your trekking poles. The really help me when climbing Colorado's mountains.

We usually use poles (and did use them on this trek when it was slick or the downhill was intense), but we for some reason found it easier to use them sparingly on this one. And, surprisingly, we never really felt sore on the trail. Tired - yes - but muscle and joint soreness, not really.

@@kineticpassports I'll be doing the EBC trek in October, so I've been viewing dozens of these EBC trek videos. Thank you for the insights!

Nice! That’s very exciting - I’m a little jealous because I want to go back so badly 😆 We’re working on an EBC help/tips video that will be posted this week or next - might be useful for you! Biggest piece of advice I’d give, though, is to make sure you build in about 3 buffer days into your travel plans. Weather in this region is super unpredictable (even during October), and flight delays going in and out of Lukla happen more often than you’d think. We had to abandon our plans to do the trek in October 2023 because the weather in Lukla was bad for almost a week straight and we had a tight turnaround to leave Nepal. And, again in March, we sat in Lukla for almost 2 days waiting for the weather to clear so we could fly out.

@@kineticpassports With the trekking company I'm using, all our flights are by helicopter, so I'm hoping that will help. But that is very worrying. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that the weather will cooperate. Have you posted the leg from Dingboche to EBC yet? I haven't been able to find it.

@@mikekofMorrison we just posted the stretch from Dingboche to Lobuche a little bit ago. On Friday, the stretch to EBC should be live
