Couple of real jobs completed. So combi valve replacement on Megaflo. Before you say it the cap from the old is a different thread size. Then its on with a little help from Allan Pages on a Friday night to exchange a Gravity hot water cylinder as a previous plumber had been there. He had changed the Float valve... the water was still coming thru the overflow in the F&E tank, not understanding why the issue represented its self... I was called. Having diagnosed the issue, we returned to fit a new cylinder. All fixed now and a brief teardown of what and how the issues shows up

See they made that Boiler easy to service on that first job 😊👍 when I used to change cylinders....I used to removed top tapping...then insert a 15mm pipe with a 90 degree bend...then hose attached siphoned out the whole cylinder in 10mins at a full 15mm bore flow!, then removed with cold feed pipe attached so no leaks!, also if bunged the heating cut an access panel on the side and smashed the coil to drain that into cylinder....This saved me hours over a month of dodgy drainoff washers that never worked !

We have the same issue with a customer, water backing up the cold water feed into the cistern, customer has four mixer valves, only two of which are accessible to isolate. I really wondered why if the pressure in the cylinder is greater than the cold water cistern why water would not run up the vent, as there would be less resistance, but I suspect that the pressure in the vent is exactly the same pressure as in the cold water cistern. In this instance its difficult to tell whether its a split coil or a mixer that is passing as isolating the two accessible mixers did not achieve anything.

We removed a floor standing boiler the other day and when we cut the return gravity Primary the water would not stop dripping into a bucket all day including the next day all radiators upstairs was totally drained yet the pipe still kept dripping however both tanks were at the same level therefore no overflow issue god knows how long the coil inside the cylinder had been split. Very annoying especially when you just wanna get the job done

The gravity cylinder issue is a head scratcher for some, it’s not all about combi boilers is it, great vid and as usual a touch of reality plumbing. Take care and stay safe 👍

Had it before where mains mixer was backing in to cylinder. Then a non return valve on cold feed meant cold water coming over the vent and overflowing the tank. That was a head scratcher 😂

Great vid. What would cause the hot/cold tap pressures to affect each other when running both? System boiler/megaflo and only a 1 year old PRV which looks clean. Soon as you run hot water the cold slows and vice versa. Megaflo (10yr old) needs re-pressurising every 2-3 months. Can't seem to work it out.
