"Something will go wrong, accept that." Wise words. You crushed it! Technical troubles happen all the time, and you kept your cool, and kept teaching. That's all that matters. Well done.

I love this style of video. The one you did with Ben before one of your pitches was great too. Really gives a good insight into how you approach things and also how you guys go about implementing the advice you give on the channel. Almost feels much more ‘real world’. Seeing things go wrong but the way you resolve it is a great learning experience for us all. Fantastic video, Matthew!

I really really really like the vlog / day in the life style videos. Learning what the day to day looks like helps a lot both demystifying and de-romanticizing what it means to be an designer, so I can get a more realistic view of the path I'm growing into :)

Hi Matt. You did well. I was at the impression from the set-up of your story that the fail was out of your negligence somehow... However, from what i've seen (i might be wrong - i watched the video with a halfway pause) - the software crashed. So not your fault. :) Hey, if it's any comfort, Windows98 crashed to the infamous "blue screen of death" to Bill Gates at his live presentation! :) This made me thinking' what would i've done in such situation... I've probably would continue with the demo verbally and waving of hands: "So if we put the Sun over (point) THERE, activate the (point) SKYLIGHT around us, the realtime GI would render this scene progressively photo-realistic..." etc. :) ... I think screenshots from the demo beforehand would've come handy in situation like this. Best

First of all, I do like this kind of videos, Secondly you held the nerve, it's something that can be taught but experience. A fight-or-flight situation, a situation where you system crashed but you did not. You have prevailed and carried on. Something that I faced recently, although things didn't went well for me but I accepted it and felt really better and now working to improve it. Thanks for the video

one of my mentors before said, one of his best skills he's proud of that other creatives didn't consider it as a skill is 'troubleshooting'. and yes, I started to consciously learn that mostly in 3D and video editing software especially when my hardware/workstation dznt have enough processing power. one of our teachers in a 3D school encouraged us to always aim to provide the 'cheapest' solutions possible to create something, cz that's what makes you efficient. cheap means just enough polygons, smallest texture files size, scripting & tricks, fastest render settings possible, and all, but will provide the same high quality output expected but faster and cost effective delivery. that takes a lot of experiences to achieve that. I see that in you in this VLOG and you took care of that impressively smooth. that's why they call you a veteran :) but well, we are humans. that heart beat rate is REAL! but we know how to manage our selves not to panic and focus. luv the story, great video and sound editing. tnx for the share! :)

Love your vlogs and editing style, Matthew. Appreciate the hard work behind this vlog! I was so nervous just watching this, especially with the heartbeat sound effects in the background! But your jokes eased me and if it hadn't been for the subtitles, I'd have never known how nervous you were. I think the mood and attitude of the one who is giving the presentation reflects on the audience, so if you don't make it seem like a big thing, it doesn't even feel like that. Great job on the presentation :)
@RobertHranitzky

Great job and frankly it wasn’t that bad. I think you handled it well and professionally - actually the subtitles/comments (in this video) made it feel worse than it probably really was or at least appeared live. I also like the way you describe your efforts around the demo. Well done and keep it up!

i've learned that being a pro isn't about when things go right, it's what tools u use and develop when things go wrong n how u deal w/ it. u guys seem almost perfect. most creative with lots of experience...the other side of which u deal with obstacles of design world are interesting and even more important to a beginner like me. thank you. can;'t wait for more videos like this one.

hey guys a little ux tip for your viewers, it would be really cool to have known this was a vlog style of video before having clicked on it, so whether its in the caption section that you differentiate the kind of video content certain videos are, or maybe you create an icon set for your thumbnails so that we know what type of video it is, that would be helpful!

Hi Matthew thanks for being so brave, ive failed clients i think that is the worst and really hard to overcome, because sometimes you disappoint people close to you, Ive acknowledged my weaknesses and im working on them after life is also about learning from these experience... I think it would be great to have a show about recovering from failure, especially after ruining your image, many designers are good designers but bad managers, we need to learn how to overcome our weaknesses as designers... I really appreciate your work and community and i hope to uplift and share with the rest of my community here in South Africa Thanks again Ipeleng from South Africa

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. First time speaking at a conference in my life. I just wanted to show a f .mp4 video, and my Keynote wasn't playing it. The computer was very old, and I haven't anticipated to that (I already knew the computer would suck). Instead of finding my way through the issue, I acted like a dumb: just skipped the video part and went on with my presentation. Would have loved to watch this video before that conference. You acted very naturally Matt, and waited patiently for the problem to get solved. That's handling it like a pro.

Computers crash. Programs crash. Roll with the punches. I doubt anyone changed their opinion on the subject you talked about because of a little crash. You handled it like a boss and that’s what’s really important. Teaching the youth to be flexible and that sometimes when things get weird you have to use your personality to bail you out
@stevoyah

you handled that situation so smoothly. I wouldve lost it. But this is great and very true, silly things with technology happen. It really sucks but you have to accept it and work through it.
