It’s so interesting to watch how differently things work when you work in home. I am a student BCABA and I work in a clinic. I can’t imagine having to buy all of my own reinforcers and such. I also see about 10-15 different kiddos spanning ages 2-8 in a weeks time so it would be nearly impossible lol.

I really enjoy your videos about being an RBT. It has inspired me to go a little further with researching on how to become an RBT. I have a child that has a Developmental Delay Disability and he is on the waiting list to be tested for Autism. I also have a son that was born at 32 weeks and weighed 2.2lbs. If anyone is on the birth control MIRENA, PLEASE check it regularly because it can embed in your uterus and if you become pregnant soon after it is taken out, you may have complications with the placenta attaching to the uterus causing a high risk pregnancy; it happened to me, just some FYI. Anyways, my four year old with the Delay has SIB syndromes. I really enjoy the seeing what RBT's do. It is very inspiring.

I just subscribed and turned on notifications! I'm on the journey of becoming an RBT and im a mom of a two year old, so im excited to learn how to navigate this aba world. Ive worked in the mental health field for 3.5 years doing peer support and advocacy work, and before that, I Was a nanny for several years for all ages of kiddos. If i were comfy in jeans I would wear them too! I wear scub tops often, but matched with a yoga pants that arent thin. Or if I want a lot of pockets I will wear scrub bottoms with a dressy(ish) top. I do agree that I dont want to look too nurse like when I see them so they dont see me and think im going to give them a shot lol. So I try to balance it out.

Hello love your videos! Im glad you started this channel. I became an RBT passed the exam September of last year and it has been a box full of surprises and shady individuals! But child we making it so far. Is your client @home or school? I started my first case its 6hrs 5x a week and 2.5yrs old @home who CONSTANTLY elopes to mom I feel due to being in a home setting. Im in for 2 weeks soo far and need help with keeping her focused. Working on getting reinforcers that are more appealing. Any suggestions on working with clients where the parent is passive and lets the child do whatever to avoid a tantrum? Thank you! I too am in the 305! Lol you were in Sweetwater lol in the shopping video. 305 till I die! How long have you been an RBT?

amam007 HAHAHAH this was the best comment ever! 305 till I die. It’s best to have your supervisor explain to the parent that in order for treatment to be effective they need to let us do our job. Of course at the end of the day it’s up to the parents... I’ve experienced this as well and it’s quite frustrating. I have two clients one in which i go to a school and the other in a home. Thankfully the parent at home understands that I have a job to do and let’s me do my thing. If she’s not staying focus reinforcers are your best friend! Take a few trips to different dollar stores and pick up a bunch of things! Each client is different so it’s really trial and error. Healthy Snacks are also great reinforcers, ask the parent to see if that would be ok! Thank you so much for watching 💕🥳🥰

I’m switching my major over to psychology and I’ve been exploring careers within the mental health field. I stumbled across ABA and I feel it’s a fit because I love kids and I want a fulfilling career. I’m glad I found your videos because I feel encouraged but I see a lot of RBTs who describe the job as a nightmare and it discourages me. Are there things you wish you knew before becoming an RBT? What advice would you give someone considering pursuing this career?

Hi JP! I’m so sorry I saw your comment but forgot to answer! I can’t speak for those who think the job is a nightmare because i personally love what I do and I couldn’t be happier! I guess it just depends on who you ask. I think finding a good agency is very important in being happy with your work. (Please refer to my other video where I talk about what to look for in an agency) I would say to give it a try and find out for yourself, you don’t even need a degree to become a RBT so what do you have to lose? Also if you have a psychology degree you can do ABA and if anything, you have the field mental health to fall back on!

Thank you! I’ve found they save me so much space! And yes I do! I cut them out and stick them in there and write the puzzle count on the back. I’ve found the picture and the puzzle count are important to my clients so I try to please them 😂

Have a Communications and LE background, thinking about Behavior Technician. The employee reviews here in Ca are not that favorable. The employees don't get reimbursed for their mileage to a client which can be quite a drive, only from one client to the next. You have to buy toys and there's been no discussion on reimbursement, so for someone who can't afford to go shopping for different clients that can be a problem. Schwarzenegger wrote a book in the 80's called The Education of a Bodybuilder, basically a biography, sounds like Total Recall is a rehash, thanks for the video.

Do you need a Bachelor’s degree to be a behavior technician? I’ve seen some job postings around me that don’t necessarily require a degree but want a background of child development. My thing is tho that it starts off at $18 an hour even with a bachelor’s degree which is really low.

I currently work in IT field. I’m planning to quit my IT job and become a Behavior tech. I always wanted to do something where I can help others, and I also like working with kids. I’m use to structure and I’ve done clinical therapy and program base but in home is different I’m struggling how is COVID-19 affecting your sessions?!?

Shannel I will be going over activities I’ve bought and use regularly in sessions first and then I plan on doing one more sensory based in which you can make yourself for the low! Please hang in there with me, I have nothing but time right now lol.

Behavior Works thank you I’m trying to be patient and I’m grateful to be working but I’m struggling I want to be prepared I feel unprepared for when I show up to my kids house with just a tablet that the company provided

Question: Do you or RBTs in general have to buy your own toys or are you doing that just because you want to?

I do it because I want too! But I think there are a lot of RBT that invest in toys because not having activities or things to work for in sessions can make the job a lot harder.
