this really reminds me of older Chevelle. Shayley kills it in Dayshell, but i like the way things turned out for OM&M. they sound a lot more professional now.
I love shayley as a singer , as a person and as my biggest inspiration just because he left of mice and men doesn't mean anything if someone liked of mice and men for shayleys voice well don't blame it on of mice and men they have their own new sound and here's dayshell so if that's the case just listen to dayshell I'm here to admire the beautiful vocals not worry about the past ITS ABOUT DAYSHELL NOW!!!
You might be right but each song has a different story, and it's still better than other artists (Miley Cyrus etc.). Besides I really don't care this is an awesome song and as long as we support these bands they will never disappear!
The band was Shayley's project. He set it up, and he started it. So yes, its actually HIS band. It's not a question of him being the lead singer. So no need to get snippy.
***** All bands copy off of each other but attempt to give their own unique sound to it which often fails. This is why out of most genres of metal (prog, thrash, death, metalcore etc..) there are only a few that succeed and most disappear or they change their style. I agree with Ryan completely. Every band sounds the same. I'm all for influences but writing the exact same thing a band previous to yours wrote is stale. Chug chug chug scream chug chug scream chug chug chug sing etc...same shit different title.
I don't know a single singer who sounds anything like Shayley. His voice alone is enough to distinguish this band/song/album from everything else in the world. So I'm not really sure you have any idea what you're talking about
InevitableBeef a voice isn't enough to distinguish a band. Let me break it down for you. 7-9 string guitars or a 6 dropped to B. Check. What that means is every song they play will be written in the same key. Next up we have semi complicated (not cleaverly, just spaced out enough to sound like its complicated) rhythmic patterns usually all played on the lowest string. Check. Next we have the tone. This is one of the more unique things about djent, but the only band that actually plays djent properly and actually happened to create djent and even coined the word "djent" is Meshuggah. Just because the tones are different in every band doesn't mean its different from every band that uses crazy sounding tones.... I don't even consider that metal
Nobody ever said this was metal. I will absolutely admit this is not metal. But it *is* distinctive, if only because of the singing, and I'm not sure how you can deny that. Find me another vocalist who sounds nearly identical, and I'll take it back. But good luck with that...
How about just a better vocalist in general? Everyone has distinct voices, but what makes a solid vocalist is range and variety. Appropriate lyrics etc
I think both of mice and men and dayshell are great bands, sure it'll be different without shayley but it's ok. Dayshell is new and will take time to rise in fame, but I'm sure they can ^_^ good luck to both bands!

i thought shayley left om&m because he was tired of bringing the band down negatively because of his depression? Or was it because of something with other band mates? can someone tell me?
He left for a mixture of reasons. The main part was about his depression and his drinking problem (Which is fixed now), he was tired of bringing them down and making an embarrassment out of them (his words not mine). Another reason was his serious back injury. He fell one day during a concert and he was never able to operate the same, of course he's fine now, but then it was different. And they obviously couldn't replace shay at the time since this was right after the flood era had reissued. One minor reason he left was because he felt like he wasn't given enough credit, Rightfully to feel that way. He was not at all.
People need to stop comparing Dayshell & Of Mice & Men. Yes, we get that you think OM&M "needs" Shayley and that they suck now but it's kind of ruining the whole experience.
SeparateMouse That's your opinion though, which is not the point. When a bunch of former fans start whining about how Shayley left Of Mice & Men, it gets annoying to people who still like the band. Furthermore, they are metalcore whereas Dayshell are not; why compare apples and oranges? We can respect that you believe OM&M "needs" Shayley, but there's no need to shout that out everywhere. Some people just want to listen to and enjoy music without dealing with haters acting like children.
They seriously need to get a second guitarist, one with some technical facility, this guy writes fine but it's almost too simple for the market they're aiming at

I dig this band, but these guys recycle so many riffs and vocal melodies. Maybe this album was rushed? who knows, looking forward to their next releases.
