DayZ Lore Explained (Documentary) 

Every DayZ player should at least know the story behind ArmA II.

I appreciate you reading some of my work on the DayZ wiki! I did a lot of research in making the lore article. I was pleasantly surprised someone made a video with some of the texts I wrote! :)

Dayz with all its quirks is a unique game with its special ability to manifest real emotion during gameplay.

The deer stand locations means something more sinister in the Green Mountain Transmission. They were sending civilians to be shot by snipers

Very good shit. This did make me think how fun it would be to have a mod or DLC in arma or Dayz about the initial outbreak and the troops in it.

Lol, I just discovered your Namalsk vid and was checking out the comments. I was wondering if you ever got around to the Chernarus vid, damn near perfect timing for me. I just got back into Dayz after about a year break due to my friend having lost his job due to the virus =[ He and his wife had to move in with his parents so he just doesn't have time for games anymore sadly. I was having a real hard time getting back into it due to it just not being the same without him and then I saw Namalsk. It looked so freaking cool to me and I decided to give it a chance. I'm having so much fun playing on the hard-core servers and I'm looking forward to the other maps I missed out on. Great vid BTW, I haven't watched this one yet lol but if the quality is anything like the last one I'm sure its great. Thanks buddy =]

I actually started on Xbox and progressed to PC last year. It is a custom $3,400 gaming rig that i use only for DayZ. Thank You for such a great , detailed narrative. I'm pretty sure ground zero is northern/north-eastern part of a map, since the coordinates given by message of Green Mountain point out deerstands, that strangely enough create a defensive perimeter in the south-western quadrant of a map and I'm pretty sure the ones responsible for outbreak are remnants of Chedaki, since NAPA has gotten rid of radicals. One Reddit theory suggested the ground zero was Khelm, but it's too south to fit the location. I'd say something has to be about that northern Krasnostav military base not even marked on tourist maps, but then there's a tourist trail nearby... Maybe it's even further north, in Novodmitrovsk maybe?

litteraly been playing for years and decided to search "dayz lore explained" to get a depper idea of the lore and this vid dropped yesterday! lucky me!

I like to think Rify shipwreck started it.. one of the factions was transporting it as a bio weapon, the ship crashed in a storm, the gas created zombies on the ship, the zombies infected Chernarus. It makes sense to me as when you go into the gas, the first thing that happens is you start to bleed, alluding to some kind of bubons or skin lesions, then you get a fever.

i have my point of view about the DayZ lore (patch 1.21). It also includes facts from Arma:Contact DLC (the alien roots can be found in Livonia bunker, and contact also has a lot of similarities wth Namalsk and DayZ itself) and Namalsk (since the creator of this map is also a dayz dev and the devs themselves said that namalsk could become an official DayZ DLC). Also im not going to include the Arma 2 part since it was mostly explained in the video (by itself Arma 2 only explanatins the lore of Chernarus but not the story of DayZ). Furthermore everything that will be said about Namask are taken from the in game documents and from the Sumrak himself. I think its kinda silly to just limit yourself to arma 2 that doesn't even give answers about outbreak and then create an answers to it from the air lol. The events of DayZ start before the Arma 2, on archipelago Namalsk in early 2000's. Project "Athena" began its research under some shady and private organization NAC "Namask Corporation". The Russian government was worried about how close NAC was doing it's experiments to the Russian borders. NAC had a very good security because sooner or later they would have to fight the Russian government. The main reason behind project "Athena" is to research the unknown root system that was growing under Namalsk and create an artificial portal. Durning that time the root system did not pose as any biological threat and NAC knew that it was a device, or more specifically a transmitter of some sort, it also emitted weak x-ray (neutrino) radiation that was mention in Contact. In result of NAC launching their research, the Russian government wanted to start moving people from Vorkuta, but most of the population refused which allowed NAC to hire more people in their security service. In the 2003, Namalsk infrastructure began to stabilize and in 2008 project "Athena" had Athena-1, Athena-2 and Athena-3 as research facilities. Facility A-1 was connected to the root system, A-2 was assisting facility A-1, object A-3 was the most isolated and the most secret facility of them all and served as a complex where top secret research was taking place. In april of 2011, Russia completely lost the connection with Namalsk. Other countries also began to express their worries about Namalsk experiments and NAC began to hide their investors and investment which did not do any good to their relation with Russia, which Moscow took as a provocation. On the second of June, 2011 - Namalsk reinforced their security even more because of the Russian invasion that most likely will take place. Object A-1 at that time was ready to be used to protect Namalsk and their scientific research. On July 9th Russians invaded Namalsk and took the northern island to establish surveillance of the southern islands. On July 10th NAC we're ready to use A-1 to repel the Russian attack by using a EVR-Strom. At the 6:14 NAC used A-1 in offencive which created a huge blackout at Bering sea area they made Russian retreat by having extremely high casualties on both sides. On the next day NATO joins the conflicts by attacking the A-1 facility and later a rocket struck the same site from the SKAT-12 Russia submarine. On July 12 US assault troops landed at object A-2 but we're taken prisoner. Later the same day Russain and NATO forces decided to leave the archipelago, butin result of NAC declining to stop their research at 7:47 a nuclear ballistic missle was lauched from the SKAT-12 aimed at the Athena-1 facility. The NAC personal was ready to create what they've been trying to do all those years and created a portal that absorbed most of the nuclear warhead energy and sent it to the unknown before planet - "Latvia". They sent the energy in the world of the aliens the same ones that created the roots NAC been researching this whole time. The energy that wasn't absorbed by the portal was enough to destroy the whole complex that was located under A-1 facility, but that did not stopped NAC to abandon their research in A-2 and A-3. Durning next week Russian forces did took the remaining facilities but on 21st of July they were driven off Namalsk by the unknown organization. After those unforeseen events it was clarified that the organization CSAT was the main investor of the NAC, either CSAT were just using NAT as a cover up (since NAC is classified as sub-organization). In the whole world CSAT was viewed mostly as a hostile organization and NATO with Russia had mostly the same opinion on it, and at that point it wasn't really a secret that CSAT had a really strong interest in the root systems for the unknown reasons. Later CSAT took over the root core on Namalsk and continued their research. Aftee next few months unknown space object was spotted within the solar system and was heading towards earth, after flying very closely near the earth the alien ship detached it's capsules and sent it toward earth. The capsules landed at the root system core in Guangxin, China, killing millions. On the same day there been numerous reports about very dangerous airborne virus. The roots system absorbed the virus and began to distribute it to the other 10 root cores, next core happened to be under Namalsk. After researching the virus NAC gave it a name - "VEGA-7", unfortunately most of the residents and scientific personal did not survive. The third core was located either in Siberia or Chernarus. The forth core was located in the Livonia, but during that time in the Livonia's bunker was created a gas which is able to destroy the whole virus structure and affect the roots negatively. (There's happen to be a theory about the virus existence from the same moment aliens planted the root seeds within the earth, but that virus was completely safe for humans and did nothing but to search for the weak spots in our body for the actual VEGA-7. Which makes sense since the character we play as in dayz is immune to it)

The first bigger city after coming from the German border in the Czech Republic is "Decin" if you drive from Dresden to Prag by train... its just on the other side from the train tracks over the river elbe... Located in an German and Czech border crossing area known as the Elb(e)-Sandstein Mountains... as a DayZ player you know this as a famous cost city in chernarus.. this train line is known as one of the most beautiful train routes to travel in Europe... You also drive through "Usti nad Labem" another well known city in chernarus...

My Origin story for the infection, it starts from Namalsk! The plane which used to be in Cherno center, crashed Via infected in the plane which crashed to the window, which rapidly spread from cherno all the way to Tisy. Rapidly the First infected would die off from the virus due the infections life cycle. and it would only spread via bites or soft tissues. but you are the lucky 2% who is completly immune to the virus, even bites cant turn you into infected.

My story is I'm with 2 others in chernarus trying to survive the unforgiving world doing whatever we can to survive, the first night was scary by myself, my 2 buddies found me and we where on the road for a while eventually we found a place we can call home (our story is still continuing)

What are the numbers in the green mountain transmission. I MUST KNOW WHAT THE NUMBERS ARE.

Not sure we should consider Namalsk canon. I mean, all things Namalsk (with a lot of inspiration elsewhere (Stalker mostly) and easter eggs) were made by Sumrak, who is currently the "CEO of DayZ", but he's been on that position for only few years now. Namalsk was also a thing way before DayZ mod, about one year, making it two separate entities. I'm, of course, talking about the original Namalsk for Arma 2, not DayZ Standalone. Actually I didn't get to explore Namalsk here that much yet to see how they merged together. Same with the Arma 3 Contact DLC.

At first before I bought the game I made my own theory because chernarus sounds like Chernobyl I thought that the radiation from there had given a powerful mutation to rabies and then this version of rabies began to spread rapidly

Thanks, that was an awesome video! Here are some insights for future ones! ARMA 3 Contact DLC happens in Livonia 2035. This suggests the outbreak was dealt with in the future. The outbreak could be the mysterious event that created CSAT and made it the bigger powerblock in 2030, maybe they somehow found a way to eradicate it or had an ''off'' switch. Maybe that part of the world was completely wiped out or maybe it is still roamed around by clueless freshies. What is very clear in ARMA 3 is that something happened that made NATO be the inferior powerblock, and China/Iran/India became the dominant force. Russia operates in Europe as an ally while CSAT is in 3 theaters, Mediteranean, North Africa, Pacific. Suggesting they have more military might than Russia and NATO combined. We know that CSAT provoked the Altis civil war to lure Task Force Aegis there and sow discord among the UN. We know they were researching biological and geoengineering weapons. In ARMA 3 campaign, NATO relies on the UK and AAF for logstics on their operation, there is not a single US carrier available in the Meditteranean for more than a month and when it does arrive, it requires to take over Malden to stage the counteroffensive on Altis. Suggesting something really bad happened in the United-States. We know that NATO was already fighting CSAT backed syndicate in Tanoa and that the bulk of NATO forces were on Tanoa, and there were not a lot of NATO forces on Tanoa. In 2035, Livonia (a country that was entirely destroyed/evacuated as suggested in Day Z Livonia) was ''visited'' by extraterrestrials that begun their journey thousands of years ago (for some unknown reason) to arrive at Livonia the exact day of ''Exercise Electron'' wich was a join NATO/Livonia/Russia/Poland exercise to test new EM technology meant to ''rebuild'' Livonia's military (for some reason). Livonia's military wich is unusually large and well equipped for a nation of wooden shacks and endless forests in the north of Poland. In 2038 there was an outbreak of a ''superstrain'' of malaria on the pacific island, centered in Tanoa, forcing NATO to abandon the theater entirely... ARMA universe is an insanely underrated iceberg.
