100 MUST KNOW DayZ Secrets! 

What secret surprised you the most?

Do players know that DayZ used to have 100+ unique books in it? Real life books that you could actually read in-game. All classics, from Jules Verne to Tolstoy and Dumas. There used to be a server long ago, called "Gents of Novo" where the city of Novodmitrovsk was the only safe zone. At nights, players would gather around a bonfire on the main square listening to a person who'd read a different book every night. Good times.... I've no idea why BI decided to remove these books. They were all classics, so their rights are public domain anyway.

101: you always grab the Mosin, even if it's badly damaged

Capturing rain water in multiple methods absolutely needs to be re added to the game! example tarp + 4 sticks = rainwater collection tub kit, deploy kit add a rock then it will make a pool of water when it rains that will be clean drinkable.

On my server, I bury sea chests for players to find, which are full of what I call "The Holy War Starter Pack." In the chest is a Templar helmet, long sword, Holy Bible, a bunch of crackers (think communion wafers), and LOTS of Mad Monk Kvass (wine substitute). Let's also not forget the police nightstick is working, there used to be a medieval mace, chainsaw (sadly isn't working, but can be filled with gas), improvised bow and arrows (I REALLY want these back in the game), a city bus, multiple versions of the truck, and oh, so much more. I used to have a lot of fun whacking people with the electric cattle prod, lol!

Having played Dayz since its 1st week of early access I knew most of these and don't understand why many things have been taken out. I loved capturing rain water with a canteen because it always rains.

im such an old head that it was less of a surprise in finding out these things exist and more of a surprise in learning that they were changed/no longer spawning

We need to bring some of the books back to add more life to non-combative aspects of the game! It would be so awesome to find a book in a town and bring it to a secluded campaign spot, and just read. Would really help with the immersion. Also, if there is any performance issue, it could be exclusive to the newer consoles and PC.

I thought I was going crazy with the water from rainfall thing, like I was sure i'd remembered doing that early on as it was the only safe water source, then when we had played again found out you couldnt do it and made us question ourselves

I really wish they would add back the improvised bow. I remember my first kill with it at Petrovka from 30 meters away, defiantly my proudest DayZ moment other than building my first base there. Anyone remember those apartments in that city where the only place to find tents?

At night on Livonia atleast, I've noticed a certain kind of radio tower has a red light at the top. Implying it has power? You can only see it really on a super dark server at night.

I never knew about 5:05 but that's based off a real landmark in Dorset, UK called the Cerne Abbas Giant. Pretty cool to see it included

DayZ is the best walking simulator I have ever played

There used to be junk items in this game too, you could hang up a string of bottles as a makeshift alarm.

Compass needs to come back to cereal packs.

Here's one that not alot of people risk to find out. In addition to pavlovo having an air pocket did you know that rift also has one similar to it. It's on top of the main bridge of the ship in the southern half of the ship. You'll see how it pokes out. Pretty sure you need have to climb a ladder to get to it though but the view is beautiful. Freaked my buddy out with it one day when he saw me without my mask. I thought it was common knowledge.

I was wondering why I never found the trumpet, the rak, and the other guns. That’s sad I liked those.

Im sure you still get berries and rose hips although rare AF. About 2 to 3 patches ago i found rose hips around tisy, cant remember exactly where. (Yes vanilla server not modded)

I've had elderberries spawn from a bush i cut down. I assume they're extremely rare. They didn't have the $UNT$ tag either.

Don't know if this is still in the game but there was a zombie that carries a kitchen knife and a piece of uncooked human flesh in his inventory. The zombie had the orange boonie and orang and white striped t-shirt.

Extra secret: the CUU military clothing are United States Marine Corps utilities. Complete with the Eagle Globe and Anchor on the breast pocket

I have actually found the berries spawning on the map before! Twice actually! Once just north of Severograd and once again on Skalisty! Both on official!

Could you please do a video on warmth/insulation vs waterproofing and getting wet? I don’t know how to survive the rain; if I should wear waterproof clothing that is less insulating or extremely warm clothing that isn’t waterproof.

If youre getting chased by wolves go under/against a pine tree 🌲. The branches with block/stall the wolves. Everytime I use this trick i never get hit, and surrounded by 5 wolves.

It’s a shame; useless crap like drinking or smoking just for fun in survival games, maybe giving a little screen effect or something, is just always something i really liked. It’s just awesome for immersion or lore building. Sitting there after a tough fight or on a camp fire, smoking a cig, pondering about the world. Isn’t that (the deceleration, the quiet before the storm) the sort of thing that makes dayZ so amazing?

I wish I didn’t let my storage with the Witch hood despawn. It never got wet which was cool. Think it was available the first few days of 1.17. Had them in red and black, idk about other colors.

The first time I played in a community server (it was 9x loot) I got the sword and it is just as great and it looks

Started playing on pc after almost 3 years on playstation as its now broken I dont know if i see myself going back to console Its very difficult since my friends are on playstation and i will miss them

these aint secrets if you already played since alpha, still nice video, it makes me miss the old guns they had. On a side note, something i hate a lot is these devs adding old guns and branding it as new, that is really stupid, i like the new dayz its between playable and polished which was not the case a couple years ago still i am extremely dissapointed on the devs for making extremely slow progress for almost 10 years of development, i know what it takes to make games, so dont tell me that it takes time, also ive seen games that are extremely good with 2-3 devs working on it as a hobby in a year or two, i hope new patches can make them redeem themselves.
