@@Fizyxx ; I have a wedding to do next month and I will test out the DB ES 1203's then. I also bought a single EV EVOLVE 50 to use for ceremony & cocktail hour, that I will test out then also. I sold my BOSE L1 MODEL 2 with 3 B2 subs, & tonematch. Absolutely AMAZING system, I actually regret selling them. To my ears, BOSE ( with tonematch & 1 B2 SUB) Sounded way better than EV EVOLVE 50. Not even close. I have not yet played the DB 1203 in high volume setting yet, but from what I heard so far, I still like BOSE L1 MODEL 2 better ( with tonematch. without the tonematch the system is weak) If you need more bass, add a 4th b2 sub or replace with 2 BOSE F1 SUBS. I will keep you posted after my gig next month.

@@esezate1 In terms of sound quality, I know Bose can impress. But in terms of sound quality + volume/output, I'm interested in hearing how the ES1203 compares. I can't imagine it'll be close but you have no reason to lie. I'm really interested in hearing how the ES1203 LF driver (subs) sounds. John (from the place you bought them) told me they outperform the KW181s

@@Fizyxx Yes, John from TRINITY PRODUCTIONS is the best & I highly respect his expert opinions. He is Not a BOSE or QSC fan. I heard the Bose L1 Model 2 with 3 B2's & Tonematch cranked up in a huge ballroom & it filled that room perfectly....Basss had enough punch & clarity of sound from the front all the way to the back of the room & all along the sides with 300 people. Impressed me that it is only 500 RMS TOTAL. That is weak compared to the 1200 WATT RMS of the 1203'S. The BOSE B2 IS 250 WATT RMS. The 1203 sub is 600 watt RMS. I am really eager to hear how these sounds come Dec 8 for my event.

I thought about buying one of these DB Tech units to use at small/medium size parties because you can split the top into left and right sides for your stereo config. But ultimately I did not do it because I like having back ups of everything. One powered speaker...if anything goes wrong with it at the gig, you need a back up. I did test an Evox 8 and was impressed with it given what it was, but it couldn't hold a candle to the Evox 12 I tested and really liked. However, I could tell that it did really need a sub for those ultra low end frequencies. Ultimately I found it to be just a really really good sounding and loud as F**K full range speaker split into two pieces. I currently use a killer Yorkville system (Parasource 12s on top, Paraline double 12s on the bottom). The system is 5600 watts RMS. Tight, clear, and puchy tops, and thick meaty beefy well controlled low end waves. Very very good system, but again, 60 lb tops and 120 lb bottoms seems heavier than that at 2am.

noahman27. At events i often use my ES1203 alongside my Evolve 50. Nobody notices/realises that there are 2 different PA's either side of my booth/facade. It's just 2 black tall speakers to many. Guests/clients do not care, it is just the dj that cares Running both, I have very good output throughout, on a very good sounding stereo PA with backup. In total the weight is a breeze at 130 lb and the setup is quick and SO easy

Love your videos, really helping me choose my first column speaker. In your opinion, a pair of Evox j8 or a pair of these dB 1203? Which will give me the most and best sound? I'm a dj, doing weddings and parties, Hip-Hop, Reggae R&B so clarity and solid bass is important.
@opaz.
@opaz. 2 года назад
The ES1203 will definitely give you that solid bass that is important to you, with double 12" drivers in the sub. The ES1203 also has the power to deliver it. The onboard EQ will assist you in dialling in the sound that you require I have never listened to a j8 so can't comment on the details. All I can say regarding the j8 is that it will be more portable (lighter) and maybe cheaper. The j8 also has less power and only a single 12" sub A pair of j8's vs a pair of 1203's . .. My money is definitely on the 1203 Hope this helps

Nice review cheers. I just compared my new JMix8 to the smaller db es503 and even though both have a 12" speaker and the RCF has 400w more peak power the db wins hands down, the sound is fuller, warmer and way much more low end thump than the RCF! And the es503 can run as a stereo system just like the 1203. The 1203s controls are easier though as they are angled at 45°, on the es503 they are vertical which can be very awkward, Bluetooth works great though. My mixer let me down at a recent gig and the 3 inputs and Bluetooth on the DB saved the day. The poles are great, the Bose L1, EVs will end up in pieces at an Irish wedding. The Bose L1 will last as long as a Paris Fashion Model in a death metal mosh pit, the DB is built like a tank. Anyone falls on the DB they will end up the worse for wear, the Bose and EV may well end up damaged, the Bose for sure. Bass coupling increases the effect of the low end too, as the DB is stacked.

Hi mate, loved your video! Was thinking of getting 2 x ev evolve 50s but you have changed my mind. I play pubs and other events acoustic with self triggered drums via a stomp box, doing rooms up from 70-150 people. I have just ordered one of these and the price is $3,800 Aussie dollars. Please tell me that the sound quality and ease of this system is everything I could be looking for? I didn’t have much to go by research wise, and it is a bit of a gamble. Thanks!
@opaz.
@opaz. 6 лет назад
Well Gerard, you've seen the video. The only major advantage the EV has over the es1203 is setup & portability. You pay the price in weight with the twin subs. If you can get a small dolly it'll come in handy at times. Saying that, 1es compared to 2 EV's is far more portable and your saving loads of $$. Conectivity wise you've seen what you can hook up to the system and I hope it caters for your needs. The DSP has all you'll need for adjustments. The Evolve is good but I find It sounds LF heavy for a 12" and I constantly have to fight getting the sound right out of the box and the column. The es1203 sounds TRUE and has greater projection and when it comes to volume, it effortlessly leaves the EV behind. I think it would be very close 2 EV's vs 1 es1203. You have a fantastic system on it's way ... trust me

Yes, you can use just the one speaker system. Inside a venue or outside. Considering all the crowd noise generated by people, i think one ES1203 could comfortably cope with 180 people

EV 50 has a unique brightness on their highs frequencies. Have you compare the two speakers? What would you say about the sound quality and n this aspect?

@opaz.
@opaz. 4 года назад
Daniel, i'm surprised to hear that. The 1203 has much more power and better Mid/LF performance. The extensive control in the DSP alone is a reason to purchase the 1203. The flexibility of being able to run the unit with the 2 split tops in stereo is another advantage over the Evox 12

I've emailed tech support and have not heard back - hoping you can answer this question. "deciding between the ES1203 vs the ES1002. I see the 1002 has a dial to adjust system presets (Flat - Bass boost - Bass reduction - Playback - Speech - Long throw - HPF 80 Hz - HPF 120 Hz) Does the 1203 have the same options - mainly HPF? If not - it seems the 1002 is more suited to work with subs and the 1203 is a better standalone unit." I've read the manual for both but I can't seem to get a clear answer on this.

I liked the idea with the top array and how you can configure it with different drivers Cons of the pa, heavy sub, back to poles and cables again, lacking inputs/channels, lacking dsp, bluetooth & reverb. These things are common in pa's today, which is why I stuck with my ES. The ES splitting into a stereo pa has worked wonders for me, when needed If you need a great sounding pa and don't require inputs, the TS is worth a go!

I've been told the bass is as loud and low as the KW181 (at least close). I have 2 KW181's and I'm not sure if I want to go with the 1203 or just add the Ingenia series IG4t or IG2t to my kw181s. Opinions? Load in and transport and rigging would be simplified with the 1203 but I think the IG4t/IG2t over my kw181 would offer more output and more versatility.

@opaz. 5 лет назад
The 1203 doesn't go as low as my 181's. Not too sure what you're looking for with the IG4t options. If you're considering bigger gear, consider the "real" array equipment like the Amate Audio Xcellence speakers

Wedding and corporate work. Most of my events only need 1 kw181 but I have 2 for bigger stuff. I like the look of the Ingenia (IG 2t/IG4t) series and it would provide a nice move into the compact line array look that seems to be taking trend. I could add 2 IG2Ts for the price of 1 1203. Leading idea is to do (1) 1203 for smaller events and have (2) IG2Ts over my KW181(s) for larger shows.

@opaz. 5 лет назад
The problem is, we are often very critical about things we buy as it's our own money. We are also very critical of how things look when we set up because we take pride in the way things look and our appearance We are also very critical as DJ's of how things sound because we are delivering a service to a client and we want to look, sound and be professional. What we must remember is that clients often do not care! As long as we turn up and we do what we are supposed to do, they don't really care what things look like or what things sound like. (To many clients) if we are there on time and deliver what is in the contract, we have done our job. I know it's not the way for us to think but this is it! Clients don't care what brand Soundsystem you have and how powerful it is! As long as the client hears the songs they want to hear, they can have a sing-along and a boogie they are happy. Clients have far more important things to consider whether it's tending to their guests, making sure things run to programme, the heating, the A/C, whether there's enough food & drink etc etc!.. the list goes on. I do not love the Evolve 50, neither do I hate it. What I enjoy about it is it looks good and it does the job. The fact that it is compact, very portable, so easy to set up and it offers weighty LF from such a small package. It's not fantastic and it is not bad but I will still stick to my comments that it's not the best sounding EV product I have but it is very useful.

I suggest this as an "alternative option" Kristien rather than "much of an upgrade". This system delivers as your system would but in a different way, maybe a better way. It's a lot more compact, much more mobile friendly and it weighs less than one side of your system. I'm sure it also has much longer throw and dispertion than your current system. Only you can judge as to whether it's an upgrade. Does it have the connectivity you require and is the sound that it produces to your taste?. Ultimately a demo is necessary for you to answer your question.

The ES 1203 has onboard DSP with so many options for adjustments. The ES 1203 goes much louder than the Evox 12 and the flexibility using it in mono or as a stereo system.

I don't think it's fair compare those two systems. You can conpare Ev with Db Es602 it's the same power levels. Db Es1203 can be compared with Ant B-Twig 12 pro. Both belong to RCF group factory and have the same power. The mais difference is that Es1203 have double sub and B-Twig 12 pro have a single sub. Both play real loud in exterior but Db Es1203 costs 1900 euros and Ant B-twig 12 pro costs 850 euros in Thomann. I love both and I listen live both, but I want to buy 2 Ant B-twig 12 pro. Have more power that I need for weddings of 300 people, and still have much power for exterior events that I have. Remember they are both made in same factory and for other people like me that can't spend so much money, want a 20kg to carry better than 29 kg sub Ant is a good option. 1400w rms 2800w peak of Ant system is very good power and also have intense bass. Thanks for share your video and point of view of that amazing system.

I would recommend the dB1203. It sounds better and is much more powerful. It has so much more to offer for musicians, dj's etc with the configurations of setups and its flexibility with all the options in the extensive onboard DSP.

Hi there again mate. Just in reference to can earlier comment of mine in regard to this system. I purchased this and used it for a gig and loved it to bits. Fantastic sound and power.!! Second gig, the system completely went into failure mode and shut down. Would not power up.... After returning it to DB tech, they informed me that the drivers in the 2 tops were completely blown and unrepairable. I had only had it 2 weeks and to their credit replaced it with a new system. I did not push it hard at all, and had the main power plugged into a power board along with a few other things including my mixer. Db can’t offer any explanation at this moment as this system is quite new and they don’t know enough about it and have not had one back at the moment. Opaz, can you offer any explanation do you think? It was extremely embarrassing for me to happen during the gig and I had to abort. I love the sound of this unit, but a bit scared of this happening again, and to have to return it twice I may be accused of doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to protect it or do you think it could have been a freak power surge through the venue itself? I had been using it for a couple of weeks before this happened. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated! Thanks Gerard

Gerard so sorry to hear this. This is a disaster that would scare and embarrass absolutely anybody. I am totally shocked as this is a first for me. I have often used mine and had to turn it down in venues because it was too loud. I have also let mine go to extreme volumes to test (as anybody would) and a neighbour 4 doors away told me to turn the music down. I haven't had any problems at all with mine, I have absolutely no explanation for your system failure. I have never even heard any kind of deterioration or noticed any signs of clipping with my system. Since having it, I've used it at 11 events and it's performed flawlessly, the sound and the volumes are incredible. When you were playing your system, did it cut out for moments at all during that event, did you hear anything unfamiliar with your system, were there any glitches of any sort. Did you hear any pops, crackles, silences or distortion while they were performing. Where would you say your system was during that performance, for example running at 70%, 80% of maximum volume or less? Your eq settings, were you running things flat or otherwise? How long were you playing for before this happened? How many people at the event, indoors or outdoors? does this venue or location have a history of electrical problems, did anybody there mention this? have you ever had any issues with your electrical equipment that you can remember? (not blaming you but any information is vital). Any other pieces of your equipment affected after the shutdown? .. A lot of questions but i am so curious as to the reasons why You can use power surge safety equipment but I am unsure whether this would have helped here. The weak link may have been the drivers but I am still very unsure why the whole system would go into failure because of two drivers blowing. Was the small fuse in the sub blown? Gerard, I take it you had just one es1203 running.

OPAZ Thanks for replying so quickly 🙂 It did absolutely shatter me, I was really enjoying what I had seen and heard so far with the1203, and really thought I had done my money. I am an acoustic singer/guitarist and was just playing in an indoor bar and there probably wasn’t more than 30 people in there at the time. I have barely touched the dsp since I took it out of the box, as everything just sounded perfect the way it was. I had the 2 tops mounted on stands and was running it in stereo mode. I had the volume level just below 0 on the unit itself, and Allen and Heath mixer was controlling everything else, and the volume on that would have been on about 3 or 4 , which would be at 10.00 o’clock. The eqs were all quite flat. I ran a power board to an extension lead that was plugged into the wall, and into this I plugged the main from the 1203, my mixer, and a couple of 9volt adapters that controlled a few pedals, so my mixer controlled everything. I had been playing for about 2 hours when I heard the unit crackle a couple of times during a song. I looked at the back of it and noticed it was flashing ‘system failure ‘ before shutting itself down completely. The next day I plugged it in and it actually powered up and I thought everything might be okay again, but I wasn’t getting any sound coming out, although it indicated power was going into the unit. My power board and anything else I was using on the night is all fine. I was just using the one unit as it is all I have anyway. I don’t know if the venue has a history of power problems, but know of 2 other people that play there and they were staggered when I told them what happened. I have a gig there in 2 nights and am feeling a little bit apprehensive, and will be using my new pa. In Aus we use the 240 volt power cable that was supplied with the unit, and I think the other European one is 110 volt that also came with it. The tech guy at dB was taking a stab in the dark, but thought maybe it could have something to do with it. If this happens again a second time, I’ll have to ask for a refund and buy 2xevolve 50s. Thanks again for your input and I am so glad that your story with this is so different to mine. It does hearten me greatly!
@opaz.
@opaz. 6 лет назад
Wow Gerard, I don't know what to say. I really don't know what I would do in your position, if I soon had another gig. Your reputation and future bookings are on the line here and maybe not being able to perform as relaxed as you should do if you had total and complete faith in your equipment. I think I have successfully had 80+ hours of use from mine and no problems. I myself will look further into the issues that you have unfortunately experienced. I've had a mic fail and I thought that was a disaster. My heart goes out to you especially as I have used mine for weddings and i would be mortified if that had happened to me, not being able to provide entertainment on somebodys most important day of their life in front of hundreds of guests. As I have 2 units, the worst case scenario is that one may fail, although saying that it just isn't good enough to have anything fail especially at that price and being new. In your case I would rig up a backup and if anything failed again I would agree at going with the EV.

Gerard how about the fuse in the sub. When my units arrived there was a bright yellow tag hanging out of the rear where the fuse is situated, next to the power switch and it stated caution to make sure you have the correct fuse inserted before powering up. My units came with 2 additional fuses in a polythene packet and the correct fuse (according to your countrys voltage power requirements) needed to be in place before powering up. Did your unit arrive with this information?
@gerardvinar
@gerardvinar 6 лет назад
OPAZ yes I did see this , I didn’t insert or change a fuse at all.... Perhaps you could be right? But you would think that , but I got 2 weeks use out of it before anything happened. You would think that if something was wrong it would have happened immediately?

Hey Opaz. Do you still use the es1203 ? Just sold my L1pro32 & sub 2’s Like them, but not ££££££ much. Plus too nervous with drunk clients who don’t care. I’ve still a pair of bose S1’s and a pair of rcf710s I use to have the Thomann pyrit 212a bins. Unbelievable low end from a dual 12 but 42kg each with castors. Looking for options to scale up and down. Es1203 ticks a lot of boxes it just the “low end” discussion that keep popping up. I’m mainly weddings in the Uk so 95 % of rooms aren’t that big. Not like in the states where every rooms seems a ballroom for 500 😂 Cheers

Yes Craig "Happy New Year" 😆. I still have my ES1203, I will never sell it. It is a battleaxe, built to last and it has more than I need all onboard. I only have the one. It is much better than my Evox 12. Low end has never been a problem for me in many events. I think we dj's are a little too infatuated with bass. I never listen to the discussions, (maybe I could learn something). I just want to earn from the events/clients and please as many clients as I can. Clients, guests etc don't care, enough bass is there for all indoor events for me. I ain't splitting my spine for indoor events with subs anymore, there's no need. If I have an event and there are a few of us going for fun, we'll take subs.

181 goes much deeper and has a lot more wallop. The ES is more of a great Mid/LF performer. As in volume that's difficult as the 181 has the sub wallop/impact but the ES has more of a musical Mid/LF performance

@opaz.
@opaz. 5 лет назад
Been so busy lately and not had much free time. I can sum this up in a few paragraphs without a recorded audio comparison. The EV has very good low end performance for it's very compact size, on some occasions it is too much and needs to be cut back in the DSP. The problems arise with the performance of Mids & HF. These seem to be suffocated and cannot be extracted out of the EV. I find myself trying to achieve a balance that doesn't quite seem to sound right. Even trying tirelessly in the DSP they're still not pronounced as you would expect them to be. The dB has bags of punch and performs extremely well throughout all frequencies. I have no issues at all here. The two subs perform just right as does the column. When it comes to SPL the dB outperforms the EV. Even with a +10 dB head start, the EV cannot catch up with the ES 1203. One annoying thing with the EV is that the limit meters come on I think prematurely and this often makes me feel very uneasy. With the thought that and any point this unit could fail and I tend to back off when I'm sure it has more to offer. Saying this I have no regrets and I still enjoy using the EV for small to mid size events. It's compactness, portability and ease of use are its strengths. The dB is fantastic whether you use it in Mono or split up into stereo in it is a clear winner.

@Wuppie62
@Wuppie62 5 лет назад
Thanks for answering! I totally agree with you on the danger of buying one ES1203! ;) Another advantage would be that IF a system fails, you 'ld still have one as a back-up (though I don't think those chances are very big, do you?)... I'm a (mobile) DJ, beginner. At the moment I organise and DJ at modern Argentinean-Tango danceevents, playing a mixed format of old, modern- and non-tangomusic (i.e. jazz, blues, latin, world music) and always end the event with approximately half an hour of louder dance music. :) The venues we dance in are mostly small to medium sized halls/floors (say 10m x 20m, or 15m x 15m), with an average of 40-90 dancers. I also get asked to play weddings and birthdayparties and want to be able to accomodate those too. Good sound and portability are important. I fancy the compact columns. My budget was ~1000 euros, but the more I read and watch the reviews, the more I start to accept that I would have to spend more, around 1500 euros... :) An option would be to combine 1 ES503 with 1 ES802. The ES802 is louder and cheaper, but the ES503 provides a nice DSP+display, Bluetooth and the option to use only 1 ES503 on smaller venues with the two tops in stereo.

The dance events and the DJ'ing is a good mix. Nice to hear you're getting the best of both worlds and workflow is coming in through your efforts.
