I have flown a few missions so far and it is a FANTASTIC campaign! keep in mind this is a pre-alpha build and things are still being tweaked!

I bought this mission thinking that it wouldn’t me long to get familiar enough with the F/A-18 controls and systems. Then I downloaded the F/A-18C Chuck’s Guide and realized that it was 712 pages long. So far I’ve spent at least 60 hours trying to learn how to operate all of the F/A-18C controls and systems and I feel like I’m only got a good handle on about 1% of the aircraft.
Now imagine training to be a fighter pilot in Canada and only being given 3 weeks to know the whole thing cold. Without even entering the aircraft or sims.
Well you can ofc try to learn everything in detail, but most of the time it´s enough to just go by videos, usually each main "feature" is easily learned within an hour.
I'm 4 months into using the F-18 and I'm just starting to feel like I'm getting a handle of it, I'm finally starting to be able to do missions without stopping in the middle to try and remember what button I need to hit to make the plane do what I was just asked to do
I'm staying away from watching videos about the campaign because I want to take it all in from the cockpit. This campaign will be an instant buy for me once it's out. Looking forward to flying with you, Weed. :D
I just picked up the Raven 1 campaign. The mission programming is amazing. Honestly, I copied and pasted the first mission into the My Mission folder so I can do the mission whenever I want. It's a great end-to-end BFM practice mission. It has everything. cold-start carrier takeoff, formation flying, BFM, some random non-hostile encounters, and a CASE 1 carrier landing. No way I could orchestrate all that in the Mission Editor. Listening to Raven 1 on Audible as well. Pretty good so far.

What are the chances that a enemy submarine would be operating on the surface in broad daylight, probably zero. What are the chances that an enemy submarine would remain on the surface after a near miss from hostile fire?
rwhunt99 well it is a Diesel Electric boat that needs to recharge and a rather old Soviet model. A near miss like that would cause extensive damage below the waterline, especially on a submarine that could preclude the sub from being able to dive
it is not addressed in the mission or briefings but we assumed it had a high grade malfunction or a problem. It was also close to what the captain could believe to be good SAM coverage - though it was unfortunately blown up few minutes earlier :)
@@balticdragon3611 So is this really going to be the most realistic campaign ever designed for DCS? Judging by the barebone explanation it seems that this was not taken very serious and reads as if a submarine was simply placed on the map so players could have some pew pew fun but without any further thought put into it.
Francois Len we discussed it with Kevin in Jell-O and decided that it could happen. Besides, we were striving for good balance between realism and fun - a 100% realism would mean a lot of boredom. On top of that - one of the main tasks of the Air Wing in the book was hunting down enemy submarines (and boghammars). If having a sub in one of the missions as a target is a immersion breaker for you and will ruin your experience, then I am sorry. But it is a fun mission and this is the ultimate goal of the campaign - it has to be fun.
Very good vid! Keep doing the campaign please !!! You also mentioned that having anti-skid on the carrier is bad, I always deactivate it, but why ? What is the reasoning behind having the anti-skid off and why is having it on bad ?
Joystick anti-skid will release break pressure automatically in Order to keep your wheels from skidding on like a wet runway... however if that occurs on a carrier you could go over the side of the ship
The sub engagement kind of kills the immersion.....subs don't run on the surface...emergency dive... radar detects air targets....well before air targets in-range. Good Mission otherwise!!!
@@Spudknocker unless it's a ww2 Uboat theres no reason for a diesel electric to full surface. They should be able to run the engines close to the surface with a snorkel, some can even run the engines completely submerged. Having a modern diesel electric surface long enough to be sunk by aircraft using standard air to ground ordinance is about as accurate as a storm trooper from starwars.
@@st0mpyishacker545 ww2 subs were often killed by aircraft more than boats, but a diesel electric from the cold war era like a Kilo type is very different.
It is more a Simulation than a game. For Example the US Air Force uses a modified Version of this for the Training. The F 18 fE you See here is fully simulated. Avionics, Weaponsystems and so on..everything like in the Real Hornet

Super pumped Baltic dragons a10 campaign 3.0 was absolutely fabulous he is really a legend and is one of the most gifted designers. Also hint I’d love to see Baltic dragon do ka50 campaign or Something. Or even when the mi24 is closer to release. I’m gonna stop the video and not anything personal just don’t want to spoil this.
21:36 the TGP can actually slew to the HARM target FROM the HARM POV? I ask because I see the HARM diamond on the FLIR page superimposed over the target.
Hey man I recommend you watch the harm launch again... first the TGP is slaved to WP 3 which is on top of the SA-15, then the harm is used in TOO mode, the diamond from the TGP is used to make sure I’m hitting the correct TOR
@@Spudknocker what I meant I guess is can you slave the TGP to the HARM so the TGP sees the HARM's target? Kinda like the opposite of what you can do with the MAVF.
@@utley No, you cannot. The waypoint only happens to be right on the position of the TOR. Now, you can use that reference to check if you selected the correct target for your HARM.
Great video as we have come to expect. Not sure I will be able to remember all that he does. But I would guess he did not learn it overnight. I wonder if he taught himself or did he have an instructor?
I was really enjoying Raven One. Until they tried to convince me someone with the brains to become a carrier pilot can't figure out how a French Letter works.
Do you have to refuel, because that is the only thing I totally suck at in DCS lol. I would imagine yes if some of these missions are acouple of hours. It's really awesome that you, Jabbers, GR, and Ralfe have lent their voices to this campaign. You finally made it! haha

Interesting campaign, the spawning in and out not sure, however definitely true is no mission is the same, and things Do pop up! Yeah, your carrier procedures Leave Alot to be Desired!!!!! Overall Fair

Just tried the first mission today.. I was excited, but uh.. I waited the full 8 minutes for the INS alignment, and broke the campaign xD he didn't want to talk to me after that.
Sounds to me like you missed a Radio check in, and the F/A-18C doesnt take 8 minutes to align even on the ground... make sure your INS knob is set to CV for alignment
I know that your supposed to have anti-skid turned off when operating on the deck of a carrier, but I’ve really never understood why. So why don’t you want anti-skid tuned on when your on a carrier deck? I would think that not skidding would be a good thing when you’re in an aircraft, perched on a very narrow deck, with couple hundred foot drop-off only a few dozen feet in every direction. ;)
This looks like it’s shaping up to be top notch.The full voice acting and the advice from Jelo, hopefully will add an extra level of that illusive immersion.
I have a problem with DCS, it doesn't work. when it says press page up and page down to take off or use the joystick (I have a joystick) it doesn't work. I press it but nothing happens. I have the DCS world Steam edition and my joystick is extreme 3d pro. I don't think that the joystick is the problem because I already tried DCS before with keyboard and it didn't work. DCS seems like a really good game someone help me please
First, youtube isn't the place to be asking this stuff, you'd be better off on the ED forums. But.. you need to explain a little better/more. What aircraft are you talking about? Does the joystick not respond at all? Are you using a throttle?
Dynamic might have been too strong of a word but things are not always the same when you fly a mission. There are lots of if than statements in the triggers that change things up
