Part 2 of my tips for familiarising yourself with the Spitfire's idiosyncrasies. This episode we'll be investigating the roll and yaw coupling behaviours in the Spit and how and why aileron and rudder give rise to them.
I cant tell you how helpful this was. I flew the AT-6 in p3d for a month before I jumped over to DCS, and one of the things you get drilled into your head is to coordinate turns. So jumping into the spit I was over yawwing all over the place lol.
i just bought my first two WWII era aircraft, and although i knew how difficult it would be to learn how to fly with repetitive precision, I overestimated myself. I started with the D-9 and Spitfire just doing instant action dogfights and i just keep tumbling out of the sky. Needless to say iI'e been getting way too grumpy about my lack of flying basics. Figured I could use a video or two on understanding the flight envelopes and how to not suck and depart from flight whenever i try and turn. Needless to say there are very few videos. Good job
This is a really good video but would have been even better if you had your controls indicator on so we could see what you are doing with your rudder in more detail. Just in case you get time to do it again :) Still very useful though and thanks for sharing.
Thanks, very helpful 👍, I have a question, what about the rudder trim, I mean after take off you keep changing that setting in the various phases of the flight or is it basically the same, and during landing phase, what rudder trim setting do you use ? Thanks!
Nice video. The thoughtful description helps. I have a question on a related subject. When you get the turn established in the Mustang, do you have to hold a little opposite stick? In a left turn I wind up holding a little left rudder, with the stick back and a little RIGHT. Is this a thing, or is it just me?
It’s definitely a thing, and a behaviour I have experienced first hand in gliders. It comes from the outside wing travelling faster than the inside, thus generating greater left and causing the aircraft to automatically roll in to the turn slightly.
Is there any chance you plan to do a video on taming the rudder in this aircraft? I have a lot of trouble with it, and I'm curious as to what you'd suggest as far as things like curves etc.
@@thomaspalmar2481 haha you were my nemesis in the air. you sniped me so many times! 1 of my favourite kills ever was a pilot kill on you and i still remember it! you were chasing a friendly and i repeatedly boom and zoomed you, 3rd time around i shot you in the head haha, i was so happy to finally get a confirmed kill on you
