Love your videos. If you check the ME, you'll see a safety altitude set (low, med, or high). For different weapons these are different heights, but for LD bombs, that's 200m, 400m, 600m. The pipper, once you trigger unsafe on the target, will shift if you are not at that safety altitude. If you put the dot on the target at that time, the aircraft will guide you to the safety altitude by the release point. You can see that here, the pipper shifts down. It is asking you to climb slightly. When you hold the trigger if the symbology slips below (which happens often at the medium and high safety altitudes), you'll find that the steering order will be close by and be an effective means of flying the bombs on target.

Thanks, man! I'll definitely put that info to use when I try this again. I knew about the safety altitude, and I always set it to low, because that's where the Viggen lives, but I didn't know that the HUD cues would guide me to the commanded altitude and provide steering cues. Looking forward to some more practicing with that in mind!

Is that why I have so much trouble with the pipper jumping far off the HUD when I go unsafe? How do I know the safety altitude for my waypoints in a multi player mission? And can I set the safety altitude for waypoints I set using the F10 map?

To answer my own question, the safety altitude is shown in the kneeboard.

Example to figure QFE in flight or on the ground: Target elevation lets say is 1690ft, divide this by 3.28 Then take your total which is 515. Now divide 515 by 9.3 and that gives you 55.37 Lets say your QNH is 1012 like it is at Nellis Air Force Base so then you take 1012 - (minus) 55.37 and that will give you your QNE for your target which equals to: 956.6 QFE This is what you would then set on your left altimeter gauge. You can set this at home base as long as you know your target altitude which i look at the F10 map beforehand or you can do this in the air also but you still need to know your target Altitude to start with. I use my cell phone's calculator. OK so I'm going to bomb a target at Area51 in the group of buildings around the airport over there. The Elevation of most all items is 4470ft because it's mostly flat. So 4470 divide by 3.28 gives me 1362 divided by 9.3 gives me 146 so now take QNH of 1012 minus 146 gives me 866. This is what i set for my QFE and it's dead on for Area 51. Try it.... Go into Nellis and go ahead and set your QFE to 866 and take off. Go to Area 51 and select your High Drag Bombs and see for yourself how sweet it is. Bomb setting is set to NAV, and your bombing mode needs to be in PLAN. I use 10 to 15 for the spacing on your other dial next to the mode dial. You can leave the toggle switches in the "up" position. Of course this is for the AJS37 aircraft.

so the qfe on the kneepad is fake?

Maybe is a stupid question but how do you decide the QFE?

QFE is the barometric pressure at ground level (where your target is) and QNH is the barometric pressure at sea level. QNH is always on the first page of your kneeboard in the upper right, so you always have that. If a target point is also on your kneeboard (for pre-planned strikes) it'll just show you the target point QFE. If not, you'll have to determine the target's elevation above sea level, and calculate QFE from QNH and elevation. QFE = QNH - (elevation in meters / 9.3) or QFE = QNH - (elevation in feet / 30.5)

Is they a way do drop ONE bomb at a time in this bird ?
@Viking355th
@Viking355th 4 года назад
Well, you could set the bomb spacing to maximum, and then press the pickle button as briefly as you can, but it's designed to drop all its bombs at once. "One pass and haul ass."

You can set the switch from SERIE to IMP I think.
