Great intro made me laugh, thanks for the review appreciate the time making it. Not for me since i do not do any acrobatics but i'm sure it will be perfect for those who wish to more away from the jet planes and into easy prop aircraft. I can all so see it been used for younger pilots new to flight sims that have no experience in flying as a stepping stone into perhaps the Yak and more complex aircraft with the added function of a parent showing them what to do or keep them out of trouble in the backseat. Since DCS is trying to entice new players into the genre of flight sims with the upcoming "Modern air combat" (some time soon we hope) i can see that it has it's place, not everyone owns or wishes to purchase xplane,fsx or any other civilian platform.

I'm also really looking forwards t modern air combat. I'm a fan of the MiG 21 and F-5 and would like to have a go at cold war jets but my brain and wallet just can't handle many more high fidelity aircraft. Hell, it's taken six months of daily to weekly practice in the harrier to get competent in all its' major systems (and I still can't TACAN).

Try damaging the Yak-52 and check out the beautiful damage modelling (not). At least this thing's wing came off. (Which should have destroyed its structural integrity. Those wings only withstand their loading because they form a box.)

@hvymtal8566 5 лет назад
Well considering that air combat maneuvering is essentially just aerobatics boiled down to it's rawest, most practical and purposeful state, I'd argue that adding an aerobatics plane is a perfectly logical addition to DCS. If adding Swifts, Russian Knights, and Blue Angels liveries are fine, then why not a pure aerobatic plane?

@fredericborloo1910

In the real aircraft, the lower wing uses the vertical brace to transfer it's load to the upper wing. So it would loose it's structural integrity without the top wing. The wing would thus collapse.

I find it quite funny, that we can have unarmed trainer aircraft, the unarmed Yak-52, very high rated missions for the huey doing civilian hauling jobs, aerobatic squadrons who get top votes for their videos, but this little module here gets such a shitstorm. If you don't like it, just don't buy it. And who are you to dictate the developers which aircraft they are allowed to implement? Leave the guys who have fun flying this their fun, and go back to your F-18. Let me tell you one more thing, last days I saw screenshots of an F-35 mod. THIS doesn't belong into DCS. End of rant.
@bowser515
@bowser515 5 лет назад
This module isn't for me. But I have absolutely no objection what so ever to it being in DCS. I've never understood the entitled bitching that comes from parts of our community. They had their way with VEAO. And they will no doubt scare other developers away in DCS's life time. It is so easy to simply not buy a module you aren't interested in rather than complaining endlessly about it. The way I see it is that developers should make whichever aircraft they wish to make. This should guarantee that a bit of love and passion will go into said project and that can only be a good thing. Now if somebody would kindly make us an Tornado GR4 so that we can blast through some valleys stupidly low at 600mph+, that'd be awesome ;)

I have tried some Lomcovaks already and I have to say that this thing needs more development... Feels more like an RC plane and an X-Plane addon at the same time. This twitchiness seems to come from the corners cut in the EFM development process, not from the actual aircraft's behavior.

As much as I'd love to see the Herc in DCS I feel like it's maybe just a bit too big for the size of maps we have. If they expanded Caucasus to have up too Sevastapol, or somehow made a merged version of the Persian Gulf with the upcoming Middle-Eastern map covering Lebanon, Israel and or Jordan then it'd make more sense. Otherwise there's not really all too much a large aircraft like the Herc can do, besides paradrops and things like dropping aid. Something a tad smaller, like the Transall C160 would perhaps make a tad more sense and at the very least be a pleasant stepping stone to maybe seeing the C-130 in the future . . . . as long as it's the C-130H from the RAF.

You can read all the documentation you can find, but creating a believable flight model takes some serious CFD work. So far this module isn't quite there. The twitchiness seems to be due to weird inertia modeling (as if it barely has any mass to it, or the air is a bit too viscous). Try doing a Lomcovak or the tumbling maneuver from the manual (almost the same thing) and see for yourself just how sketchily it behaves...
@AdmiralQuality
@AdmiralQuality 5 лет назад
Yeah, it doesn't seem to oscillate like the real thing either. (And for that matter, neither does the MiG-21 which some these guys worked on previously, even if they aren't the current owners due to the split up.)

@AdmiralQuality
@AdmiralQuality 5 лет назад
@@getsideways7257 According to the DCS site the MiG-21 uses some lesser form of flight model, EFM, compared to the good PFM planes, and it shows! www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/505/ It's also unrecordable with the track player (you'll do a perfect takeoff but on track playback you'll drive into a hangar). What a P.O.S.! It was so obviously substandard that I asked for my money back after 3 hours with it (you can guess how that went). My opinion of it hasn't improved any since then. I do like the complex systems, the look of it, and the sounds. But it fails to convince me in flight model, and that should be the one non-negotiable in any DCS aircraft. Bringing substandard stuff like this into the sim just lessens the whole thing. If the CE was just inappropriate I could manage to accept it, but inappropriate and shitty is a bad combination.

Totally agree. Even tho it probably isnt for me I can see why somebody would love it. DCS is, by my opinion, The flight simulator of today thanks to its details and flight models, so its understandable people from non combat sims would love to try this level of detail, hence more non combat airplanes. And what is the problem? Everybody can enjoy a relaxing flight around? I just bought a jak-52 and I am hooked just by the pure sense of flight. And also if it brings money/people to the sim so why the hell not?

I think it's sad, sad that it was never finished and sad that it was removed but I put the blame for it right at the feat of VEAO, there whole exit from DCS the liquidating of there company and the re-establishment of a new company seems to be just so they could drop the aircraft and exit contract with ED without having to support the plane or those that payed for it and taking the P-40 pre-order money and running is just outright theft.

I'm not so interested in this particular aircraft, but I am super interested in more non-combat and more civilian aircraft in DCS. I understand the argument that it's Digital *Combat* Simulator after all, but .... here's the deal, right: DCS is a better flight sim, than all the other flight sims. That's the unfortunate state of other flight sims. They all feel on rails, they feel very boring, predictable. Even the expensive premium modules for things like P3D and FSX are comically on-rails compared to the DCS modules. They often lack in 3D cockpit detail compared to DCS, the interactivity is bad, and so on. DCS lacks civilian traffic, and it lacks a global map to play on - as far as civvie flight simming is concerned that is - but you know what, as a joy-flight type sim pilot, I honestly don't care. While it's cool to fly from my home airstrip in FSX or whatever, the moment you're in the air, it really doesn't matter. It's an aircraft, you fly it, and whether it says "Sukhumi" or "Oslo" on the map doesn't really change how the flight feels. My point is: I don't really care where I am flying, where from, where to... I care *that I am flying a cool aircraft* and experiencing its nuances and learning its systems. DCS offers that to a level no other flight sim does. And because of that, I'm super interested in non-combat and civilian aircraft. People can be butthurt about it when there's an alternative on the market. Right now, there isn't - so I'm all for this!

What about x-plane 11? to me it feels much better than p3d and fsx, the cessna 172 compares very favourably to how the real plane felt to fly back when I was still flying and not poor like I am now :P (Ahh to be in my early 20's with no financial responsibilities again). I haven't flow it in real life, so can't compare, but I have flown gliders. It seemed alright, but things like landing felt like a 1990's sim. The moment the wheels touched the ground, it went on rails and behaved weirdly. Granted that doesn't matter since you're in the air most of the time, but it's the kind of thing that rips you out of the immersion, if you know what I mean. That's why I love the feel of DCS. From the moment you awaken on the ramp, in your cockpit, until the moment you land, you are *in the cockpit* mentally... Nothing takes you out of the immersion.

@@johnnyc.763 I can't compare them to DCS? Why not? They are flight sims. And DCS is better than them. Has nothing to do with fanboyism, everything to do with DCS modules being much higher quality. @getsideways7257
@getsideways7257 5 лет назад
@@DeadMeatAU While I agree that XP11 is way above the likes of P3D and FSX, its flight modeling is still too crude even though it uses a theoretically "truer" approach of calculating everything in real time. I'm not sure whether the amount of points of force application should be raised tenfold or a more elaborate CFD algorithm should be used, yet so far DCS produces far more believable aircraft behavior results. Especially in helicopters. This particular module, however, reminds me more of X-Plane... or worse yet, of FSX.

Wow a corsair. With what map?Normandy!?! Give me a break What's the point. That's the problem with dcs and 3rd parties. There doesn't seem too much direction. Let's have random specific maps with random aircraft from all generations of flight dicking around.

The problem with these planes is that ALL developers in DCS have this issue where they half ass the "next best thing" forgetting the previous modules. What would have people wanted more, this plane, or a freaking clean cockpit for the MiG-21, that has been asked for, like, two years? Sigh.
@launchsquid
@launchsquid 5 лет назад
the MiG-21 hasn't been forgotten, it gets bug fixes as it needs them, it's clearly still supported. Just because you ask them to modify something and they choose to not do it doesn't mean they're forgetting it, it's finished, and it's look is how they intended it to look.

@@Orffen Leatherneck split into Magnitude 3 and Heatblur, Magnitude 3 kept the MiG-21, Heatblur left with the Viggen.
@Galf506
@Galf506 5 лет назад
@@launchsquid The MiG-21 is one of the many examples. And it's not "something I ask" but something "their customers ask" because good luck looking at small specks in the sky if your cockpit is covered in dirt. It is a perfect example too because it would take a couple of days to modify the texture. Maybe a week at best. But no, they just make promises. Want other examples? ED's Ka-50 is long forgotten. The cockpit is terrible to use because the lights just don't light up. Another really quick fix that isn't implemented because they want to release more stuff for the F/A-18. Paying customers (two time paying in my case) have been shown the middle finger and that's it. The Su-25T, the plane that is the first thing new players try in DCS, has broken tutorials, broken cockpit lighting, broken shkval lock. You would think it is a priority given it's the first plane new customers see, right? Let's not even talk about Razbam. Their modules see one serious patch a year at best. The Mirage and Harrier are full of issues but they've seen it fit to release a MiG-19. It's DCS-itis, all the devs do this, except Heatblur (well their Viggen still doesn't have vapour on the wings but that's minor.) which is why I preordered the F-14.

@@Galf506 "ED's Ka-50 is long forgotten" - maybe you are unaware, but: "...such projects being worked on for 2019 are overhauls of the cockpits and external models of the DCS: A-10C Warthog and DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark".
@Galf506
@Galf506 5 лет назад
@@GlowingAmraam I am aware. Are you aware it's utter bullshit that it takes a full year to fix the brightness of switches? (When has this been promised? I forgot, it has been so long.) Like, do you seriously swallow that pill? Are all other serious developers completely stupid then? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that between a full new cockpit (there's user made ones out there that have nice textures. Edit: actually, I'm sure that if they allowed the modders to go deeper in the module they'd be able to fix the cockpit lighting by themselves in a week.) and just assigning new lighting for the switches and screens to a modeler there's a big sea of workload. There's out there modules that are nearly broken and then there's modules that get added eye candy. Don't you see the bullshit in that? And for the record, I own the F/A-18C so I'm happy that it's getting so much eye candy, but you know that when the "next thing" hits the F/A-18C will be forgotten like the Ka-50 and bugs will pile up just because the engine moves forward and the modules are forgotten. It's wrong.

This is my biggest problem with DCS. I have not played for 2 years or so, but when the WW2 warbirds came out, you could fill an aircraft with lead and it will still fly like nothing had happened. The old IL 2 1946, you could kill or wound the pilot, damage the engine, either oil leak or radiator leak, damage the wings and surfaces causing loss of control.
@skatterpro
@skatterpro 5 лет назад
I didn't play DCS 2 years ago, but you are definitely able to get a lucky shot on the pilot, shoot of control surfaces, cause fuel leaks and engine failures by now. Just 2 hours ago I landed a Spitfire I felt was acting wonky. Turned out some MG fire had taken off my right stabilizer. The flight before that killed me by losing an aileron.

I wish they'd give you an option to tape an AK-47 to the front so we can try to take on hornets in this thing on multiplayer servers. I DO sorta feel like there could have been better ways to spend their time, even if they're using this as a training dummy for other prop aircraft, but whatever, not like it can hurt to have it in the game.
