COMMENT WHAT SPECIFIC ELEMENTS OF CHANEL THAT YOU LIKE! ⬇️
THESE ARE THE BAGS I STILL LOVE & would still buy in 2024 + the specific reasons they suit my own tastes. Since my taste tends to operate outside of the trend cycle….so they are usually lower priced 😉
Chanel Perfect Edge - link.kwshops.net/Pod2yP large chunky chain with top handle, also like the size, this is the smallest size bag that works for my needs and it’s perfect. Will likely be my next big-ticket designer buy!
🖤 Chanel Graphic Catch Shopping bag - link.kwshops.net/GVUzQ7 like the handle detail, generally cool shape
🖤 Chanel CC You Flap - link.kwshops.net/TY2uMJ woven chains with logo hardware on the strap
🖤 Chanel Vintage Timeless Shopping Tote *link.kwshops.net/laPQEQ*
🖤 Chanel Chevron Shopper - link.kwshops.net/PIgEhA I think the double style of this bag is aesthetically cool, and I like the chevron quilting
🖤 Chanel Vintage Diana link.kwshops.net/hnp24W - I have alwaysssss loved this bag! it has similar lines to classic flap range with fewer of the bells and whistles that I didn’t like about the CF design.
So, this video may be controversial….but, I have always tried to spread the message of intentionality + reality (from the ground) with these purchases. Luxury is supposed to be a fun hobby, nothing more - and in the last few years the hype around designer bags has spun out of control. And while I do contend that there is a sort of dogma around the Chanel brand, part of my upbringing into the industry just accepted that there was a hierarchy and all these years later, I just want to poke holes and see if that actually needs to be the case. Maybe if we all just buy things for our own taste and needs, more designers will be able to flourish, and just maybe…this will go back to being fun. Just my $0.02!

For a long time I thought the Chanel classic flap was my dream bag. I recently started to really take a look at it and realized I don’t even love the quilting that much. I do love that style of bag (especially the woven chain strap), but I have found that style of bag from other brands and now I don’t even care for Chanel anymore. This video put into words what I’ve been feeling. Thank you for this!

For me it is the ballet shoes. I am a taller girl and often wear flats. Other brands of ballet slippers do either not fit or not wear well. I have a wider toe box and I had at least 20 pairs of ballet flats that just were not comfortable or were so worn out looking after a month of wear that they sat there. I finally broke down and bought the classic black flats. They are at least 7 years old and still look really good and are mega comfy. I have them now in the classic nude and black combo and a pair in a gorgeous dark pink suede that I received as a gift. I likely won’t spend money to replace them should I need to, mainly because I am nearing a full time remote work life and won’t need to wear them as much. The other items from Chanel don’t necessarily appeal to me.

I briefly owned ballet flats in the late aughts while I was in high school. They’re not flattering on me at all! But they definitely look great on some

Love this topic. I've always disliked Chanel, Hermes etc. I just don't like preppy/grandma/equestrian stuff. I like edgy shapes and things with lots of metal, but exposure to something day in and day out with everyone telling you it iswhat you should be liking can mess with your mind. I think we're just all susceptible to advertising and repeatedly seeing something is a stealth form of that.

Ugh absolutely! It was 40 hrs for like 10 years. I picked up a lot of great info and skills but apparently there were some other ideas mixed in as well 🫠 I’m still trying to figure out what my “style” is but I’ve kind of gotten off of the idea of that being a priority for now. I’m somewhere in between girly and edgy…or maybe on some other planet away from both of those things. Edgy rijngs false on me, but super preppy or feminine is all wrong too 😵‍💫 Maybe I just don’t have a box

Maybe many people who are willing to buy expensive bags think that this is also an investment, because a very few bags will increase in value, but it is very difficult to really maintain the value of buying the right time, price and style. If you buy wrong, you will lose money *condup*

I agree, there are different kinds of luxury consumers-the ones who are into personal style and design and the ones who are into fashion trends or status. To be fair I do think some people have a so-called “classic” personal style that overlaps heavily with status. But you’re so right that being bombarded with images can sometimes start influencing us.

You said something at the end of the video about not liking the direction all of fashion has been going in but personally I think I might feel that way if I defined fashion only by the big fashion houses. There are so many amazing contemporary designers that are not these old brands, who put out amazing, high quality, innovative and beautiful collections, and I think they’re the ones driving fashion forward.

❤😂 Sorry guys! I only buy it if I can’t stop thinking about it and will use it for at least 5-10 years. Sometimes you have to save up to get stuff. It has to be worth it. I still love my Chanel items and will still buy a few things if they come out in another color I love. Here’s why though: I love to be carefree when getting dressed. My Chanel bags , shoes, & few RTW garments are all neutrals. Black/Gold, Gold/ w/GHW, Beige, and white. They match everything. After 6 years I recently purchased the Hermes Chypre sandals to replace the Chain Slides. I abused them and wore them way too much and you can only tell on the slides in the corner. I prefer to not look so flashy so these are better for some places. I no longer find myself buying budget friendly shoes that get worn down quickly and tossed. I’ve had no issues in quality and avoid most seasonal items except espadrilles, and certain bags. My only frivolous purchase is the Chanel bag umbrella. I justified it by using it on Boys and Jumbos. I love it so much . The simplicity of the quilting is beautiful yet just enough. The chains are like jewelry. I got a tweed phone case today with a pearl and camellia on AliExpress. I was also raised by my Great Grandmother so my taste may have been influenced by this.

I love the chains, the cc's , the various nuetrals, pinks and reds. Basically everything you hate. 😂 But again- if you look at my closet, there is a pattern there. I buy those colors across the other brands also. It can be a bag from target and I still gravitate to those colors and style. So I just like what I like. Def not buying into popularity. I agree with you, Chanel is considered a higher tier, but I don’t know why except for the name. Also, I have had a similar experience with their shoes. I tried on a pair of their ballet flats, and it felt like I was standing on top of wood.I thought why am I going to pay $700 for these shoes that are not padded and uncomfortable when I can pay for a pair of Sam Edelman flats for $200 and they feel 100 times better. I think I still want a vintage or or pre-loved piece from Chanel, but definitely not a classic flap.

I have to be honest and admit I have dreamed of owning a Chanel classic flap for so many years, however their prices have been always crazy when I was able to splurge to justify it, so I haven't bought any. Then with time I realised I didn't want the classic flap, because I liked it, but because it was everywhere on RU-vid as an investment bag and a classic and deeply believed that. I figured out it wasn't the classic flap I liked, it is not my style, the 255 reissue is my vibe and I am hunting one on the preloved market. Regarding shoes, I like some of their ballerinas, I own mainly flat shoes and many are ballerinas. Everything else they sell like tweed, brooches, etc, it is just not my style or taste and as you said it would make me look like an older woman. With having said that, I still don't own any shoes or bags from the brand. The 2 blockers are the ones you showed at the beginning QUALITY & PRICE.

Chanel novelty bags are my Roman Empire. Am I using the phrase correctly? lol but seriously I’m obsessed. I love the rocket ship, the life preserver, the giant hula hoop bag, the ice cube, and the jerrycan. I just love them. Unfortunately Even if I were rich I’d be too poor for those bags lol There’s something almost gaudy about the Chanel suit, especially the modern versions. As if someone who hated women’s suiting made a suit just to spite the entire idea of it. I Stan lol And the Chanel duffel bag that occasionally makes its rounds around the algorithm calls to me. I have no real use or need for it. I don’t even like duffel bags but I do like THAT duffel bag. 🤷🏾‍♀️ That’s it tho. I truly don’t understand the classic flap/ boy bag craze.

The main character is how they humanize an object and appeal to the customer. People aren’t buying bags. They aren’t buying objects. They’re buying an idea. And a person an icon sells that idea. That’s also why they give classic designs female names. They are appealing to the customer by humanizing an inanimate object.

Interesting! I get that conceptually but I guess I don’t understand why it’s compelling. I buy bags and items for me (with a couple of obvious exceptions) every single time I’ve bought a ‘consensus item’ I felt too conformist, or that it put a spotlight on me that I don’t want.

For me, buying Valentino rockstud on 40% sale due to close down kind of scratch the itch. Also taking off the handle makes the bag more modern. Just wanted to share the tip. Omg the Bunny Mac Dougal comment 😂. I agree, tweed kind of ages the impression of the clothe, i also for some reason think of tweed like infested flee and bedbugs sofa and carpet in a worn down hostel ...for me it seems poor, like you needed to use the fabric ment for house inventory, example using old curtains to drag them out for clothing..huff. Also i think the cut and style is from a time when women was very repressed and became bitter after staying home with kids while their man got a career and found a young woman to ditch the mama with...much like in the Netflix series Dirty John and Betty. Betty is very much the kind of women i associate dressing up in Chanel psychological speeking. Strict, bitter, narsistic and trying to be charming....

To love Chanel you need to love the mythology and literature. Chanel no5 is the best perfume I’ve ever smelled and i have a collection of 600 bottles and make perfume. Coco has some controversy but the message is what stuck. They’ve turned it into something crazy with these prices. It has always been expensive but it was within reason previously.

It's "grandma chic" but people like these european brands due to 1. These are status symbols to women at the top of the financial/racial caste system 2. Coco Chanel was a somewhat a feminist Icon. Never married/had boytoys and created a brand/perfume when that was hard for women 3.Price and supposed exclusivity 4. History/heritage of the brand

Thank good I never spend money on anything from Chanel. I liked Lagerfeld, the history of the brand and got sucked into the hype one day… Just could not bring myself to buy something from them bc of some weird feeling a had… years later I realized that I actually never liked the design, just the name. Most stuff is too conservative for my actual (not fantasy) life. Whenever I see the runway models in their early 20s wearing CC head to toe, I think they look like they played dress up in their mothers closet. 😮 Don’t feel that way when seeing other luxury brand‘s runway shows.

Some or most have never really looked in to her history, As for karl , he was another piece of work, the only plus sizdd women he would dress are the rich . He made that clear when he did some clothes for macys and said he didn't want large women wearing his clothes that is why did not have any plus in the collection. I wouldn't say I don't like it but I am just indifferent to Chanel style. I think, the appeal of the brand is its timelessness and perceived value that rich people wear it. I walked away from purchases a few times in the past when the prices weren't so steep, and I don't have any Chanel products because I don't see it matching my style. Hermes bags both look modern at any time, but Chanel looks like stuck in the past of flapper era when rich ladies wore Chanel jackets with pearls and hats for afternoon tea or charitable events at church. Of course you can wear Chanel classic bag with tshirt and jeans, but there is no harmony and style in those looks. Chanel bag looks good only with Chanel jacket and Chanel shoes but the whole Chanel look feels dated and pretentious to me.

Never liked the classic flap. It looks boxy and too stuffy. Looks ugly as a crossbody and as a shoulder bag. I like the WOC but only as a clutch. Chains interwoven with leather tend to be too heavy and give me shoulder pain if I use the bag for hours. I love the turnlock of the reissue, but not the CC clasp. The thing that totally turned me off Chanel was when I saw a RU-vidr wearing a giant dangly "CHA" on one ear, and "NEL" on the other. The earrings were huge. It was like she was wearing billboards. It's the tackiest thing I've ever seen and so when I think of the brand, this is the first thing that automatically comes to mind. Maybe someday I'll associate Chanel with something beautiful but only if they design a totally fabulous, incredibly unique bag.

Ugh, my shoes had that awful “‘CHA NEL” 🫣 and they were white tweed. Part of the reason I bought them was that they came in at my old job in * my size* and in my area NOTHING ever came in in my size. Added bonus was that they were a not egregious price (they were white and the toe box was lightly stained) I swiped before I could think. They’re not me at all

Coco was a Nazi but her work was revolutionary. She brought wearing black for women outside of funerals and maids. She retired corsets, and brought masculine details into women’s clothing so we don’t all look like frilly dolls all the time. I like how masculine the quilted leather goods are, especially the leather chain. A chain by itself is not comfortable, a leather strap by itself can look frumpy and boring. The combination is edgy but classic. Also like the tweed jackets for corporate, for a dominant and professional feel that’s not quite like a man’s wool suit. Love pearls, but real ones, so not into Chanel jewelry. I buy pearl/gold jewelry from an actual jeweler still for less than Chanel costume jewelry. Not into the shoes except their classic black toe, but wouldn’t actually pay the insane amounts since shoes wear out. Would maybe buy a pair 2nd hand if come across new condition for a good price.
