I lost my wife last year after 43 years together. How did these young people capture the feelings of love and loss so perfectly? They are no longer young of course. They are close in age to me than the age when they performed this. I love them for this song and many others.
@@petersydes1512 It doesn't make the pain any less and never will. It does make me continue to believe that life is worth living when even peripheral contact with people like you show that it was all worth it. I'll be gone soon but we left behind a few children and grandchildren who realise that love, life and politics are all connected.
I am sorry for your loss, Me and my wife suffered two bereavements of close relatives in the space of less than three weeks in 2020 and the shock and numbness have not faded so I know a little of what you are going through. I have always loved music through thick and thin and it has proved some consolation during the past two years though I have found it harder to listen to as a consequence of trauma. It makes no sense but I feel guilty listening to it as if I should not enjoy anything in the light of what has happened, if that makes sense.

I don't care what anyone else says but for me Deacon Blue had a completely original sound. Their songs were unique and timeless and this particular one is just stunningly beautiful. It has the power to soften my heart after a hard day.

They would have 'broken the Internet' without a doubt. They've sold millions of albums and still sell out concerts, so RU-vid would have made them even more popular.
This was one of the best slower tracks that the band released. Love the lyrics to this. It gets better with age. Can't appreciate this when you're younger I don't think...it's a song about experiences.
Cold coffee won't see you through- did it ever? Probably not. Great lyrics as usual from Ricky, a true wordsmith and great presence on stage. You can see how he would have been a great teacher before Deacon Blue.
There's a sadness and melancholy to this that makes it one of their best songs. The video perfectly complements the song. The way the song builds and builds all the way through reinforces the wistful sentiment of the lyrics and music- testament to the clever songwriting of DB. As usual, great vocals from Ricky Ross and Lorraine Mcintosh.
Ricky Ross, one of Scotland's best songwriters. I've briefly met Dougie Vipond, yes the same BBC Scotland sports presenter who plays the drums with Deacon Blue, he's a good guy! This is a beautiful song.
I remember this great song when I was in hospital when I was getting my ear operation when I was only 13,im 43 now this song just sticks in my mind I love it so much.
I was in my teens when they were at their height, Ross and Lorraine, amazing singers, beautiful voices. When I hear their songs, I just have to stop and listen. Great band. This was one of personal favourite songs of all time.

@@arsenalvibes Thanks for your reply. I was very sad at his passing when he died and was going to donate to a charity for pancreatic cancer. I didn't at the time ( no excuse) but I will make sure I do before 2020 is out to make amends in a small way.
