Testing & replacing a failing car battery. If your car won't start and you have the usual clicking sound, before you run to the battery shop check that it really is the battery.
All you need is:

My 407 just had a new battery but didn't give the classic clicks of no start. It would crank over slowly if it had been sitting for more than a day and still start but I would get random electrical faults. Diagbox had codes for low system voltage and when I put a multimeter on the battery its resting voltage was 11.8V which is apparently completley dead. A new battery later a no faults.

Charge new battery before putting in the car. And charge 1-3 times a year. That way battery will last longer.

Completely agree! I always charge a new battery before putting it in.

here's a few things for battery reconditioning never try to do this unless you know what you are doing - the acid can burn your skin Test the voltage first - there may be a kaput cell which would waste your time. Check the battery fluid. Try to fully charge the battery. (I discovered about these and more on Jons Mender Guide site )
