Great video. I remember emailing Capcom back in 2015 about if they would ever do a PC port. They basically just told me that they don't know and that they have no plans on doing it. I felt pretty disappointed, but then they finally did it in 2016. Revisiting one of my favorite childhood games has never been so much fun. The game obviously isn't flawless, but it's a damn enjoyable game to play through from beginning to end. It's a real shame that we'll never see another Dead Rising game this good.

In Colorado you can buy guns at Walmart, so I would say it is somewhat believable.

Loved this retrospective. Felt like you glossed over the intro of the first game a little so I wanted to wax about it. The scene where you're flying over Willamette with that unsettling music, taking pictures of people dying in unpleasant ways... It's fantastic - perfectly sets the tone for the game and puts you nicely on edge. To this day it's stayed with me as one of the most impressive opening scenes in gaming. Very tempted to pick up the remaster on PC...

Even 13 years on besides the areas in which the game hasn't really aged well the game is an amazing example of a zombie game done right and anyone who loves zombies should play this classic

I think the "Yet He Complained" thingy means that American beef demand was as still as high as before the Willamette incident, meaning that Carlito's scheme was useless and only made things worse, it is also means that this consumerism will never stop.

There's one thing I'm surprised you didn't mention. It's a minor note, but still an interesting bit of trivia: Dead Rising was originally supposed to be a sequel to another Capcom game, Shadow of Rome. However, due to that game's poor sales in North America, that idea was scrapped and the game was changed into what would eventually become the first Dead Rising.

Am I the only one who thinks Frank is attractive in this game? He looks rather good for a 2006 video game character. Being an Average Joe makes him stand out in beauty Imo

I love that you used the credits theme from the Raid 2. Trent Reznor made that credit sequence as badass as the fight scenes.

Dead Rising 1 is about the superiority complex the United States gov has over other countries, and how they treat foreign territories as playgrounds. Carlito is the embodiment of their actions and how they are unwilling to admit the atrocities they commit on foreign ground and how it mostly affects the innocent people caught in the crossfire. In the true ending even when the gov is exposed they still deny any involvement with zambeez and the Santa Cabeza fiasco. The game was made by Japanese people so this cynical and bitter take kind of figures. One of the best things about it, is that the serious story balances all of the goofy hijinks that happens with the survivors, psychos, and outfits. DR1 is also a good time capsule of the time it was made, with all the references to terrorism and terrorist threats, with homeland security grunts being major characters, and Carlito committing the biggest terrorist attack in the universe of DR. The game is oozing with early to mid 2000s angst and anxiety about terrorism. Dead Rising 1 in my opinion is one of the best games of all time , the game has mechanics and quirks so unique, not a single game since its release has managed to capture. The survivor AI being one of them, I am one of the people that loves it because of how the personality each of the characters survivors affects gameplay.

Personally I thought Off The Record was the second best game in the series, only behind Dead Rising 1.

The psychos were memorable in character, but extremely poorly designed in combat

This game was main reason I bought X360. Fast forward to the future, having full DR collection on PC is such a delight.

I don't know about a dedicated gun store, but I've definitely been to a mall in Colorado that had a Bass Pro Shop that sold guns in addition to other sporting goods.

Actually Frank was infected when the zombie Carlito shot got blood on him. Story wise that is. Only area it makes sense.

excellent work in this video man, I'm re installing the first two games on my ps4, off the record and 1 are my favorites of the series, stop buying the new games after testing DR 3 and do not even bother to try the 4.

Still an exceptional series you've made here. Well done. Playing through them again, though this'll be the first time I'll be playing 3. Girlfriend and I are completing 1 individually, playing 2 together and then 3 together. I first played it as a kid on X360. Now, on Steam, it feels the AI is way worse than I remember, the game is ridiculously easy as far as boss fights go, and I feel I have way less free time and have to work really fast at everything I do. I love it though. No difficulty selection means that the game is as hard as your goals make it. Currently trying to complete a fresh playthrough from level 1 while saving all the survivors possible. Definitely took a few resets, but movement is key over everything else, I feel. That, and the convict's truck's gun. Anyhow, love your series on this. Rewatching it for the 5th time now.

Here's a tip for the Sweep and Roundhouse Kicks. If you Dodge Roll then press the attack button, you can roundhouse/sweep easier. It also makes Dodge Rolling safer, since your recovery now clears space for you.

I kinda like the controls for the game it makes it harder to master and keeps you alert because you cant just ninja dive away it keeps things tense. The AI can be pretty poor I can agree with that but it just adds to that tension again and the feeling you get once you've successfully escorted survivors is great and not all AI is bad some seem to actually do what you want them to do, but still can be annoying at times ;) Great Video man

I remember years ago, I got the game for a friend on his b-day, but something weird happened. On the back of the box where the game's rating and rating descriptions were, it was a jumbled mess of letters, as if something went completely screwy with this particular print run of the box. As for the game itself, I remember when I originally played it years ago, it pissed me off for some reason, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it was the iffy control sometimes. Maybe it was the dumb survivors. Maybe it was Otis constantly calling me then getting pissed at me if an enemy interrupted (this was also released at a time before HDTV became the norm, so trying to read the tiny text on a CRT was terrible). Maybe it was the strict time limit severely hampering my ability to explore, I don't know. However, years later, I started missing it, went back and actually ended up enjoying it. Granted, there are issues and I don't think certain aspects aged well, but I definitely appreciate it more now than back then.

Honestly I believe Dead Rising characters are more distinct and memorable because they're less than beautiful. If Frank was a Leon S. Kennedy pretty boy he would be pretty forgettable in a sea of similar videogame characters.
