DEAD RISING's Forgotten Weapon 

Dead Rising 1 is the gift that keeps on giving.

I honestly believe it was just meant to be the original Zombie Genocider reward before the Mega Buster was added, that or it was intended to be a reward for something else and they scrapped it since the Mega Buster was already technically a "beam gun".

It's real random, but I looked at it and immediately thought, what if you could use it while you're flying in a helicopter. Like in a certain scene. I don't know, it just gave me the vibe as if you would use it in that situation. Or maybe even to defeat something giant for some reason...

If they ever remake Dead Rising, they better have this weapon unlockable!

I think it'd make sense if it was the ranged equivalent to the laser sword and it's toy version given how big and goofy it is, along with its sound effect.

The gun placement in relation to the narration is genius 😂 But I agree with the theory that this was a planned reward for an achievement like 7 Day Survivor in Infinity Mode before boxers.

Almost makes me think that the beam gun was supposed to be a BFG-like thing. Think there was a BFG in dead rising 2? Just a thought. Lol

I think it may have originally been an experimental US military weapon in lore. It seem very prototypy in its design, and bulky because it uses large batteries and it's circuitry might not be the most optimized.

I love this channel. Dead Rising 1 was such an amazing game, Capcom did the dirty on this series after the third game. It's great to see a dedicated RU-vid channel and community focused on the development and history of the game. I long for a worthy follow up to the series.

its sheer ridiculousness makes me believe that yes, this was replaced by the Real Megabuster. probably early on as well given how far back it had a sound for it, but then it didnt for(supposedly) the next build onward. beyond that i could see it being an early test asset they threw together for practice an function. like "how do we want the weapon detail to be like in this game?" and the Beam Gun looks to cover all the bases for textured lighting and detail. random side note, i didnt know the Dead Rising games were on PC until this video. and at the time of this upload all the games were on sale on Steam for CHEAP and i wasnt gonna pass on that!

Years ago over number I used to call this never used gun I used to call it is the laser assault rifle back then, damn so many memories hell yes the model for this weapon was actually restored now.

I'd guess it was basically the Mega Buster just with hunting rifle zoom capability... It's cool we know more about it now than just being a glitching block lol :)

If you could give Broke the Beam Gun, what would he do?

My personal theory and I could be completely wrong was that it was going to become an unlockable originally sorta like the megabuster or the saber but it was scrapped earlier in development or a testing weapon to test various effects Side note i’ve been really wanting to do another play through of this game on pc but have struggled to get the audio to work at all :/

The Beam Gun being replaced by the Mega Buster is the most probable of all the situations, but I enjoy the thought of Brock using it. Since Frank can "use" the Beam Gun, I imagine the boss fight would have you knock it out of Brock's hands and use it against him.

The Beam Gun was, and still is, an interesting piece of Dead Rising history. Here's hoping we discover its purpose in the near future...

huh nice to see a reference to Gundam, the "Beam Gun" highly resembles or loosely resembles the Beam Rifle from Mobile Suit Gundam. The sound effect for the Beam Gun even sounds like the Beam Rifles sfx

Gosh I love you STiP0, always have always will. Dead Rising was the very first 360 game my dad and I played after getting to try out one of my parents friends 360. She had CoD4 and i'm pretty sure I literally beat it within the first 4 hours. After that we decided to get a 360 and DR was the very first game booted onto our system. God I miss '06, being 6 years old, the old 360 dashboard, and a gaming market full of opportunity.

i think it was just a backup placeholder in case for some reason they didn't get the ok from higher up to use the mega buster. capcom is obviously different, but you know how it is when some companies have a strict vision for their "family friendly" properties

I nevered know that the beam gun was a cut weapon

As someone with a fair amount of Lost Planet 1 and 2 (and sorta 3), I don't think it was meant to be a reference to it. The design doesn't look anything like the tech used in the Lost Planet games. Lost Planet tends to have sleek, mecha-anime looking technology while the beam gun looks retro-futuristic and blocky. My guess would be that it would be, much like you mentioned, a Resident Evil-esque overpowered weapon given to you after the game is over or after completing some kind of challenge.

It just my personal theory, but I think Beam Gun's idea maybe re-used in Lightning Gun from Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and Dead Rising 2 Case: West

I really do think it was the Og Real Mega Buster it just makes sence its even Space Themed like the Laser Sword another Unlockable Item for killing a lot of Zombies i beliave they spent very little time on it i think they did finish it tho but they reailsed the Real Mega Buster would be a More Iconic reward and one That uses one of Capcoms series the Beam Gun may have even shot the same Type if Ammo we may never know unless we get a 2005 build but its Likely i also think tbe reason its glitched and broken is because Capcom never ment to leave it in the files it was a mistake and as more builds came around it just got more bugs but due to what we can do today we can repair it i do hope one day we can get a 2005 dead rising build that has the beam gun fully working without needing to be repaired but who knows.

I do agree it probably was originally the reward for Genocider. And I also see it being possibly a prototype kinda placeholder gun to reference Lost Planet, before switching over the Mega Man. I can see the Brock theory but I kinda think at most they just were like ‘hey, it could be a cool unlockable getting the final boss’ weapon’ but didn’t progress much further if that theory has any weight.

Honestly i feel beam gun reference to MVC 2 with iron man cannon special move but capcom couldn't reach out marvel or stan lee approval on using it for dead rising months before release date who knows i could be wrong here

My thinking would be…. To tie into Isabella and Carlitos story path…. Because they developed the virus in the Santa cabeza area. The scientist or the security at the base would have to have a back up plan…… let’s say if things got out of hand. If you have ever played resident evil 4. You can unlock the PRL45. Parasitic removal laser. What if the beam gun, is in fact an anti zombie gun to zap the parasite out of the zombie………..

I can tell you for a FACT its not from megaman what so ever, Atleast, Not something you shoot. The Megaman X guns are from Megaman X Dive and that is a fairly new Mobile tencent game, Thats why they have guns, So that you can spend more cash on it. If it was from megaman what so ever, It would probably be some kind of "Huge Lazer" Sigma uses or something but I dont remember seeing anything like this thats for sure.

It looks like a sniper because of the scope, but maybe the animations weren't ready and they used the machine gun ones instead?

So really the only way we could ever get a solid answer to what this weapon could of been is to ask the devs themselves but my personal theory is that it would been the original award for zombie genocider or if possible even for 7 day survivor

This gun might've been used by the last Boss of the game perhaps he would use it when you got some distance from him but who knows.

Is anyone aware that the beam gun is in dr2... just because it didn't fit in the story at the time and its model was different, doesn't mean its purpose is unknown. It just means you haven't put 2 and 2 together. Most game scrips back then were written with 3 games in mind as it was the trind. Ultimately, i truly believe the beam gun got scrapped early on for a later game. Then Capcom Vancouver got more zombies on the screen, so they were given the script and redesigned it from the ground up. The beam gun was always going to be in the game, but the story needed a reason for it to exist, i.e., zombies taking over and humans needing a reason to farm queens for zombrex. They more then likely scrapped it for the mega blaster to prevent spoilers on the bet the game would take off. And if it didn't take off, then there wouldn't be a waste of their limited development time (which was already troubled before the last 9 months of the game) and the gun could just be left in the files because again, well, in the scenario, dr1 fails and dies before dr2 giving them an out

Do you think the Beam Gun might’ve somehow inspired the Blast Frequency Gun in Dead Rising 2? I know they look nothing alike regarding design, but both guns have a military style to them, and the Beam Gun does give me Umbrella Corporation or Phenotrans vibes, like it was designed and engineered specifically to slaughter zombies or monsters. I could wrong, but the Beam Gun could’ve also served as inspiration for the Lightning Gun or the Laser Gun from Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, as both do technically shoot a beam of some kind. I really do hope one day we’ll be able to see the Beam Gun in its full glory, whatever it could’ve been. Maybe someone can modify it to where it can shoot the Real Megabuster’s plasma shots instead of its placeholder bullets. Mainly just to see what this gun could’ve looked like if it fired real energy.

The beamgun is just a holdover from re4's dev phase methinks.

Have you seen the unused texture for the cult?. it can be found where their kidnap room files are. In it theres what appears to be a metal coffin with the cults symbol on it. I believe it was originally intended for frank to be inside of when he was kidnappped. or the cult leader sean was meant to be cremated in it since it loosely fits the real life backround of the character/cult. Havent seen it used in game and ones mentioned it anywhere.
