DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA - Around Midnight 911 received a call about a overturned vehicle with the driver still trapped inside on the corner of Durham Chapel Hill Blvd & Nation Ave in Durham. Upon arrival emergency crews got right to work. Firefighters had a hard time stabilizing the vehicle. After about 20 minutes they were able to remove the driver but it was to late, he was deceased. EMS did not try to preform any lifesaving measures.

My deepest condolences to the family, however, there is nothing to be warned about or graphic in this video. People NEED to SEE what can happen. Maybe it will sink in to at least one person’s mind to slow down, be more careful, be more aware and absolutely do not be distracted while driving.

It’s not the toughest job…..try customer service and cashiering and we make much less money than these first responders do and we have to put up with verbal abuse and insults all the time. Does anyone thank us for working through the pandemic so the grocery stores would remain open….he’ll no. Give all the glory to first responders, doctors, nurses, etc……and once again the hell with us bottom feeding cashiers who kept the grocery stores going and put up with all of he crap from people thinking that I’m going to infect them because I’m just a low life, low paid cashier but the first responders, oh boy, they’re better than the rest of us and we’re forced to enter into that line of work or maybe they chose to because they like it. We cashiers have no choice but to work that crappy job….most of us hate that job but that’s all America has to offer in Florida….cashier work and it pays horrible and you’re treated like garbage all day. We get no thanks…..we’re lucky to get our paychecks. I’ll bet first responders don’t have to worry about those things because they deserve their paychecks, we don’t because we’re nobodies.

I like that you always keep any and all people that are hurt and the deceased names out of your intro and videos. To me you are preforming a service in the fact that if any Officers or Fire Fighters, and Paramedics, are hauled into court they will have the proof that they did all they could and did their jobs right! Even here on RU-vid your videos are lessons within lessons, to be learned before anyone gets into a vehicle impaired. Thank You for all you do!
@penelopelopez8296
@penelopelopez8296 2 года назад
It’s not a lesson unless we actually get to see the results of what happens. Seeing a smashed car does nothing to deter.! Seeing a mangled body speaks louder than words and actually is a better deterrent than coddling us with a video of a smashed car and firemen cutting up a car.
@SixtyOne-es6tj
@SixtyOne-es6tj 2 года назад
@@penelopelopez8296 Warning, I am going to just tell it like it is which means thoughts you most likely never ever thought about before now. I will agree with you that seeing mangled bodies could be a lesson learned, but at what cost? What is the cost to the people who call in the accidents and see the carnage? What is the cost to the First Responders, The Fire Department, the Law Enforcement, who knows that when one of the injured asks where are their loved one, best friend is and are they ok... and they know that the person has died? That is not a question any First Responder wants to answer ever! What is the cost to the Trauma Doctors and Nurses, and all the other medical staff in the Trauma ER Units not to mention the Trauma Surgeons of whom I worked with alongside other Trauma Surgical Nurses and Anesthesiologists over twenty five of my 37 years as a Trauma RN in the ER's Trauma Unit and then Trauma Surgical RN in the Trauma OR's? The hospital is the majority of the time the place that the one who asked about a person learns they have died and trust me it ain't anything pretty about watching the emotions erupt from that person even though they themselves have critical injuries. What I am saying is this, if you saw RU-vid Video's that show vehicle accidents that show the mangled bodies of the critically injured people, and the bodies of the mangled people who died as a result of these horrific accidents, you would see young people, and older people becoming desensitized fairly quickly, not because it's a video, it would be because you are not there at the actual time and place these accidents take place, not there when First Responders show up, not there when the people are taken to the hospitals, not there when the Corner shows up to take the dead people away. Service it to say you are not there to smell the smells of that accident, trust me they are not pleasing smells at all, nor are the smells that come along with the accident victims when they come into the ER, the smell of urine, pooph, blood are the worst, yes people do urinate and pooph themselves in accidents, just a reflex you could say, not all do but I would say maybe 25% do, something you won't see or hear mentioned on a TV Medical show or documentary. Best Example of people being desensitized by for lack of better words, blood, guts, violent actions, decisions in a split second of a kill or be killed situation that are in the life like video games that show cars being recked, and people flying out with blood squirting all over, from detached limbs, heads flying off and bodies. Bodies that are crushed and shot up also the military video games where killing is the name of the game and the bloodier it is the better those pre-teens, teenagers and young adults like it. I asked my 16-year-old grandson how he felt about seeing all the blood and gore in his video games, his answer was this.... I'm used to seeing that kind of stuff, so it don't bother me, it's just how life is these days. When you worked as a nurse in the OR didn't you get used to seeing the messed-up bodies of people who got into really bad accidents, and were taken to the hospital so you guys could fix them up? I don't mind saying I was stunned, and I told him in the real world you never get used to seeing the horrific injuries and the death of people ever. I never did, and this is why I got burnt out and quit nursing, I could not deal with the emotions, the nightmares. You might think it was the children that came in, but that was only a small part. Truly it was the young adults who were brought up to the Trauma OR and then would crash on the table and no matter what effort was made and done they could not be brought back to life. I could no longer stand by a surgeon while he told the family we did all we could and see the tears and heart ache in their faces, the mother's screams, and Fathers stone silence while he held her in his arms. Worse yet a young woman in her twenties or early thirties, or teenager seven to eight months pregnant, who's unborn child is viable, but she is cemetery dead from a horrific accident, and will never hold her child close to her heart. She will never hear her precious child call her Moma! Unless you have been there you don't know how hard these moments are going to cut into your soul. No First Responders, Fire/Rescue, Law Enforcement, Doctors, Surgeons, RNs LPNs ever gets used to seeing these horrible injuries inflicted in an accident! Why because they are there in the moment taking care of the people in the accidents! I know this is a long reply, but sometimes people need to hear the truth, from people who have been there and given their all!!!

Been in this situation before and the Chief mad a change to the tactics. We use to stabilize the Driver so he could not move around inside the auto and then hook up the winches to the rigs turning the auto up right so entry into the vehicle was faster and the Driver could be accessed faster. Shoring up the vehicle and cutting while the vehicle was upside down took too much time when you are dealing with the Golden Hour for the patient. But, I guess I am being an arm chair quarterback not being on the actual scene. But, the two biggest tool available to up right the vehicle were setting right there, as my Chief put it.

Question: how many cops does it take to stand around watching firefighters dismantle a mangled car? Answer: as many as possible because they have nothing else to do, apparently. Also, why the warning? I see nothing graphic. Last...if the people in the vehicle are confirmed dead just pull them out. If that was me or someone I love...just get us out, don't worry about avoiding more injuries.

Not all firetrucks have wenches that is a tow truck. As far as pronouncing a deceased we have a set of criteria we have to meet/gather to ensure we have a deceased pt then we call in to the hospital, give the info gathered and ask the ER Chief of call to pronounce the death, we get the time then we go to the ER and gather the signature from the Dr that we need on our paperwork. ME/Coroner collects the body from the incident scene.

First, I’m sorry for your loss. In the interest of full disclosure I am not an EMT/fire/paramedic, law enforcement, or medical examiner/coroner. I recently came across a report from the California Highway Patrol on the collapse of the I-880 freeway in Oakland, California during the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. This report contained information on the handling of each of the 42 fatalities at that location. There were 2 or 3 victims whose remains had to be partially removed. In each case, the remaining portion of the remains were later extracted from their vehicles. I would like to think that the coroner/medical examiner would do all they could to provide the deceased’s loved ones with a full set of remains. That may not always be possible, though, depending on the amount of trauma the body suffered.

@dbouterse9170 2 года назад
@@joerouse7908 Thank you for trying to help me with an answer. I assumed since no one would answer me the left remains were crushed with the vehicle remains. I never looked because my uncle was first on scene and told me that my dads head went through his steering wheel but the steering wheel in his old station wagon had a solid middle that a head shouldn't fit through so yeah. He was hit head on by a 16 year old girl who was trying to get home for her date. She passed on a curve on a two lane road. It was 55 in both directions but she had been passing cars in the oncoming lane a lot. My dad died within moments according to the autopsy report. She had glass in her eyes and severe burns. unfortuneatly a small town and she was related to our family somewhere down the line.

I don't know what it is I just saw. "Hard time stabilizing the car"? I saw no one in that van, doing anything to help the victim, I saw them reaching in with poles, and playing with blocks, and several other non-rescue, non-critical actions, but I saw none INSIDE, trying to save this person. It was like they were afraid it was going to ... collapse or something, WTF is that? It's a CAR- you had one, good support, already in place. It was not going to go anywhere. Then.. all we saw were blocks upon blocks upon blocks, NOT changing anything of importance. Now, I fully realize I'm here, they're there. And maybe, on the other side, even though we could see through to the other side, they were somehow doing something to help this poor driver, from the outside, maybe praying or something- but their PRIORITY, is to get TO the victim, and see if they're still alive, from the START. Why were there all these construction efforts on the BACK of the vehicle? The drivers in the FRONT, right? This is the problem, when no context is provided with accident videos. I'm sure they Fire Department has people ready to talk to the press you could have spoken to. Or maybe stay until they get ready to tow the van/car away, once it's up-righted, and they're getting ready to load it on, we could have put 2 + 2 together, and made some sense out of WHY they were responding, in the way they were. Seen a LOT of accidents in my time, even worked some, as a volunteer firefighter, roll-overs as well, and I've never seen this kind of response before, when EVERY SECOND, counts. Sure, firefighters need to consider their own safety in specific situations, but.. unless there were Power Lines down around the vehicle, which I didn't see, or that pole was in danger of falling- it DID look to be leaning, but AWAY from the car/van, (and the one firefighter kept looking up at it), but if it was actually a problem? That yellow support they were taking out at the end? Would have been better used on the pole, IF that was truly a concern- however, no other firefighter was continuously glancing up at it. This may sound harsh to some, don't care- it's one man's opinion of what I witnessed here. Someone who's done some of this work himself, who has a few family members who are actual firefighters, full-time. And this was just a VERY strange response- and it may very well be that there's something important missing, we don't see- but this SHOULD have been explained, so your viewers CAN make sense of what we just witnessed. That's not asking too much. If you're making these videos to help educate, provide information to locals, or even for training reasons, important details should be included for all. Otherwise poor assumptions, are all that remain- and this is how BAD information, begins to spread. Just a thought.

The channel from California even have the police give info after the fact. They understand rights of the public. Should have told the 2 officers to kick rocks!!! You should have someone with you discreetly filming you, so you can sue, if they start ordering you around. Make them arrest you, then, as long as your not hampering their progress, you can get access without worries!!!
