So the thing about kimi is, his teams always love him, he’s so friendly and nice to everyone within his team and to all his mechanics etc. plus he’s ridiculously fast (in the mid 2000s he was the fastest driver on the grid) which means teams can’t get enough of him, but he just really really hates media and F1 politics so he doesn’t even pretend to care and it’s amazing

Kimi was known as The Iceman. He drove to the limit of the car with no mistakes at all times. There was a period of time when most of his places were through scaring rookies in front of him off the track. He's laid back and doesn't care. Every chance he gets he goes back to the trailer and sleeps. Why? "I like sleeping" He learnt driving rally on snow in forests like all Finns. F1 must seem kinda boring.

To be fair he did say the reason why he retired for the first time was because he was bored and wanted to try new motor sports like nascar but that bored him even more to the point he came back to f1

He wanted to go snowmobile racing and did compete twice while under contract with Ferrari, completely ignoring the clause in said contract preventing him to doing other competitive sports or dangerous activities for branding and fear of injury and so he and Ferrari had some arguments. Because of this, after the '08 season he left and did a slew of different racing before coming back with Lotus. And now, in every contract he had since, including in his return to Ferrari, until his retirement, he mandated that he was basically allowed to do what he wants lol. He is an absolute legend

You are not aware how rare is to see Kimi smile. In that award event, he indulged a bit too much in gin. That, not vodka, is his preferred drink off the grid, so much that he was given a bottle for his Secret Santa. One of the most amazing drivers and greatest personalities in F1. We will miss our Iceman loads.

7:08 fun fact Max Verstappen was 16 when he first drove a free practice session in a F1 car in 2014. The year later he got an F1 seat! So when he was 17 the guy drove an F1 race!

No, Max had just turned 17 when he participated on his first free practice session of F1 (he's born on 30th of September 1997, and the free practice session in question was on 3rd of October 2014). But still incredibly young.

@@Donanzador Fun fact: In the Netherlands (Max Homecountry) you can get your driving license at 16, but you are not allowed to drive a car alone. There must always be a person with you who already has a driver's license and driving experience. You can only drive a car by yourself when you turn 18. So basically: Verstappen was already a Formula 1 driver before he was even allowed to drive road vehicles alone.

The one and only Kimi, of my list with all-time-favorite-people (any discipline) he's easily in my top 3. There is something about him, his carefree attitude and the "i dont give a F" mentality are already praise worthy, but it's his incredibly dry sense of humor that gets me each and every time. Never forget, when asked why he (still) raced F1 cars after having achieved so much, his legendary answer was "bwoah, it's just a hobby"... Yup, he's a special one and we all love him for being who he is. (in a way... to me, he's kinda the Leslie Nielsen of F1, Leslie invented Deadpan, Kimi perfected it ;) )

First Kimi is a legend. And in his last race (in the Alfa Romeo) the wrote on the car: "now we leave you alone" because of this conversation in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi (in i think 2013) wegen he told the guy from the Pit: "I know what I'm doing...just leave me alnone!!"

The Indian food question: he meant that if authentic Indian tastes like European "Indian food" then he likes it. Most just didn't understood what he tried to say 😂 Also "do you have any message to your Finnish fans?" was meant to be answered in Finnish and the maker of the video is a Finn, so that's why he included some of those too 🙂 He just said "Happy mothers day to my mom and all other mothers too. Nothing else to add. Thanks!" while he was expected to say something of the race or weekend 😃

Just a bit of trivia regarding the TV presenter who damaged the car while driving on the ice? That's Natalie Pinkham. Before she started in TV she was a champion 800m runner. Apparently she was world class in the event. She has since transitioned to being one of Britain's most sought after TV presenters regarding motor sport. She is, by all reports, a very lovely lady and very knowledgable about Formula One. That was also Natalie at the 17:15 mark in your video.

"point the wheels to direction you want to go and throttle" 1 o 1 rally. Kimi actually gave good advice. He had to do some promo. Nowadays it's like if you are really good at something you do. Especially sporsts. They aren't educated pretty much of anything and media wants always more and more. Nowdays they actually train communication skills to football, nhl, nfl, nba, f1, rally and so on. It was refreshing that time to have Kimi who doesn't give a fuck but racing. He was really talented and probably like normal dude if you have a beer with him. No ego
