I work at a factory where we make parts for these. One day the big bosses from JLR come round in an assortment of Landrovers and Jags. One of them won't start when they come to leave. He hitched a ride back to Solihull with one of the other gaffers. He leaves the keys with our logistics office says a guy will be down to fix it. Guy from the major rectification department comes down and is sat outside with 3 laptops all afternoon and in the end he calls a transporter to take it away. 😂 No way would I ever own one of these. 😮

You would think after all this time and how perpetually unreliable these cars are, they would turn to Toyota and hire some consultants from them to go over their product engineering and create a template towards reliability for them. Could you imagine how much more popular Land Rovers/ Range Rovers would be , if they had at least 80% of the reliability of a Toyota?
@zoidberg444
@zoidberg444 Год назад
@@paulsz6194 The story of the British car industry is almost a Greek tragedy in scope mate. At one point Austin Rover owned Jaguar and Landrover but after it was broken up by BMW in 2000 they were sold to Ford after BMW stole a lot of the development ideas and technology from the Range Rover that it needed to produce the X5 and stole the Mini brand name and the factory in Cowley, Oxfordshire. Austin Rover had, had an alliance with Honda in the 1980's and into the 90's as Honda entered the UK market and was building cars in Swindon and used Rover as a means to learn how operate with a European workforce. Toyota, Honda and Nissan all make (or made) cars in the UK and have extensive operations with their various sub-manufacturers here. I am shocked that JLR hasn't tried to take advantage of it or make some kind of alliance to secure Japanese electronic components and wiring looms or tried to cooperate with Honda to engineer some aspects of their vehicles like they did when they were part of Austin Rover. If memory serves the Freelander was based on a floor pan from a Honda vehicle that was cancelled and I would guess the K-series engines that MG Rover used at the end were probably inspired by what they learned working with Honda. I have to say having some knowledge of the way JLR do business is that they are selling a very luxury product but brutally penny pinching on its manufacture.

"I'm sure that fuse is okay." Yeah, it's okay! Being protected from any current hidden away! Several years ago, purchased a '93 Taurus. 3.8 Long story short, the seller removed the fuse for the instruments because the check engine light was on. I figured that out when I coasted into a gas station when I ran out of fuel. Then I started searching for the fuel gauge problem. Thought I had narrowed it down to the slosh module. Took the module to a Ford dealership to see if they could test it for me. The mechanic said, check out fuse #7. Sure enough, it was missing. Put a fuse in, however long it took to light up the CEL for an O2 code. Yep, just needed a sensor. So much for being short! LoL 😅😆

iv succesfully programmed Jaguar and landrovers using a downloaded version of JLR SDD software and a Bosch MDI VCI, one thing about these cars is they are very finicky about battery voltage, 12.8 volts minimum or problems follow, the reason its starts after you have got it started is that you have put enough charge in it, but if you leave it to discharge below 12.8 then it will have problems. obviously there is something draining the vital voltage from the battery.

So, you need an app to use your car now? No thanks! I'm an electronics guy who loves computers, but I don't want to have to staple my cell phone to my forehead to be able to use my car. I have been pondering why dealers seem to avoid working on any slightly problematic vehicle. It seems that the factory trained mechanics at the dealership would be the best equipped and most experienced to handle any problem, but especially the tricky ones. It does not seem likely that every dealership hires only incompetent mechanics. I thought is that the technicians themselves must actively avoid taking on such a task as they don't want to be married to it. A problematic machine might take many hours and multiple attempts to track down the problem. If the tech faces not being paid for their full diagnostic time or for 'callback' time, then they might want to avoid working on anything difficult. With my limited experience with dealerships though I doubt the competency of many dealership techs. I bought a new car, which had a minor problem show up in short order. Two weeks at dealership and they could not figure it out. Took it to another dealership who I don't even think looked at it. When I finally got the factory service manual it took about 15 minutes of looking at wiring diagrams and tapping on a temperature sensor with a screwdriver handle to diagnose the fault. I had to tell the dealership exactly what part was bad to get them to replace it.

That particular terminal was labeled Sensor ground and was the only larger terminal in that particular connector. All terminals had great tension. Cleaned that grease off and treated that connector with some stabilant 22a and no more issues. First time I’ve had to fix a car with less than 20 miles on it. Ivan, I really admire your determination to get to the problem on these Land Rovers. I had a 1994 Discovery years ago, loved the vehicle, after two years of ownership it started running terrible and sometimes would not start. I took it to a Land Rover dealer three times and an independent euro shop once, no one could figure it out. When I was forced to trade it in, It felt like having my favorite dog taken to the vet to be put down 😢. Love the vehicles with their unique style and personality, but I don't think I will own another due to the lack of aftermarket support and terrible dealer attitude and service. In retrospect, it was probably something simple that caused the issue. Seem like Land Rover is using more unreliable electronic tech from the Germans, a step in the wrong direction regarding reliability.

Thanks Ivan for working on a Land Rover as promised. I own the 2010 Land Rover LR 4. 2016 was the last year they made them. It has the Luxury Trim Package. Heated, Steering Wheel, Heated Seats. Seating for 7. Premium Sound System, Three Sun Roofs, Voice Command, and a Refrigerator in the Center Console. It had a serious Fuel delivery problem when It was bought. The Fuel Line Quick Connect Fitting kept popping off inside the Fuel Tank. It was a tough diagnosis because the problem is virtually unheard of. I got it running and heard the Timing Chains Rattle in the front of the Engine. Land Rover was sued for manufacturing a defective Timing Chain Guide. They have since settled the case and came out with a new and improved Timing Chain Guide. The Truck has a V 8 (5) Liter Engine. It is a Ford Engine that has (4) Camshafts and looks similar to a Ford Coyote 🐺 Engine. I am currently tearing down the Engine to swap out the Timing Chains, Guides, Tensioners, Water Pump, Thermostat, Fuel Injectors, and the Brake Booster Vacuum Pump.

Long long ago, in a far away place. My brother and I worked at this photo lab in a mall. Sometimes people would come in and ask questions about their camera. Some lady came in with her Canon Snappy & my smart ass brother was trying to figure out what was wrong with it (he's pretty good about that kind of thing). He exclaimed "Aaaah, here's your problem!" He pointed to the label which said "Made in Japan!" (it was a long time ago) I don't know if he ever figured out what was wrong with the camera, but I started laughing (the lady was not amused)... This car reminds me of that story. Land Rovers look so pretty, but I argue, they're absolute junk. They're so complicated it takes a 1 in a million mechanic (that's you Ivan...you're a supreme bad ass) to fix the car.

Hi from the UK. I had a very similar problem. Land Rover dealership eventually said it was down to a module that thought the car had been in an accident and as a result the module shut everything down. The car had never been in an accident. They changed the module and the car has been running ok. However when I had the car completely checked over by them so I could put the car under their warranty scheme, they said it comes up with another fault but it would cost thousands to locate the particular module.

I bought a brand new loaded jeep cherokee xj sport in 1997.... It had intermittent starting issues. Sometimes it wouldn't stay running at idle. I took it to Jeep at least a dozen times. Finally asked them to keep it till they fixed it. They couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. They stopped looking. They parked it in the back lot for MONTHS. Finally I had it towed from them directly to the ford dealer. They must have been embarrassed because they BEGGED me to leave it with them. I had it towed back with the understanding it would stay on their LIFT until it was fixed. I drove by there every morning on my way to work. If I saw that it wasn't there I would have it towed to another dealer. They spent several days looking at it. I went over there to see what was going on and the guy who was the only nice one to me said I could go back and watch him run the diagnostics. I decided to poke around under the hood with a really powerful flashlight I had in the trunk of the jeep. I saw a hole in the firewall. With a bundle of wires going through it. A BIG bundle. They were all tied and wrapped together. But there was shiny metal on the bottom of the hole through the firewall. And I could clearly see light coming into the engine bay when I turned off my flashlight. The grommet that should have been there from the factory was never installed. The wires on the bottom of the bundle had been worn through and were frayed and rub the paint off the bottom edge of the hole through the firewall. And it wasn't the only grommet missing either. The car was missing all kinds of electrical trim and wire ties. So they had to splice all the wires and install grommets and wraps and whatever else. The car was never right. It didn't fall under the lemon law because it took to long to fail. The truck still only has 75k miles on it because it's never worked right.

It’s a 2018 Land Rover, pretty much every car of that year had bad windshield seals. Water leaks in and then effectively it’s like a flood car. Modules start flaking out and the cars act possessed. The dealer was just being lazy, the fix on these is basically to go through the whole electrical system and replace any module that might have gotten wet. The radio going out is a key symptom that fails when the windshield leaks.

I do roadside assistance. I have had a lot of difficulty jump starting on many newer vehicles when the main battery voltage drops below 12 volts for any reason. I suspect it might be something similar in this case. Sometimes I have to totally disconnect the battery and allow any residual power to drain off. Then I can reconnect the battery and add jumper cables and start the vehicle.

Thinking back to all the cars I had before the advent of computers, the only problems were the odd clutch needed replacing, points needed cleaning now and again. A long journey in a Mark 2 Escort held no terror at all. Yet in recent years, I would dread going over 5 miles for fear of the petrol pump blowing a fuse every two days, and nobody able to sus it out. Then, when questioning why on earth would anyone put the pump in the gas tank? Was told that ALL cars now have it there ! Any one with a few miles on the clock would agree that the gas pump belongs on the side of the engine and have an inspection glass bowl under it. And todays fuse box, surely there are better places to hide it than under the dash-board? Even Houdini would have problems replacing fuses ! I notice recently that quite a few locally have solved all the vehicle problems as I have..... and got rid of it !

I've discovered, on my Land Rover LR2, that there can be intermittent problems with the fuse plugs... you know, the tabs they plug into their contacts with. I've gone to the various fuses for different faults and found them to be OK... not blown. But then I discovered that when I take them out, clean and polish the contacts and re-insert them, these problems go away for months. One of these intermittents is the failure of the headlight directional system (the headlights turn slightly for corners). My guess is that, with the very low currents needed for various systems and sensors and so on, they are very sensitive and need a very perfect contact in the fuse plugs, because any tarnish or even invisible light corrosion adds enough resistance to stop them working. Two years ago I finally took every fuse out, one by one, cleaned and polished them, and I have not had one problem like this, since. Edit to add: Because of suspecting the fuse plug connection issues, that even the tiniest amount of tarnish/corrosion resistance (even when they look fine) might be causing a problem, I always "DeOxit" any plug in connectors to every module when I need to unplug and replug them, and "work them" a bit.

I bet the dealer “checked” the fuse then put it back in the wrong slot. Can’t wait for the next part. Some jaguars have a problem where if some cheap diagnostics are used to connect to the cluster it can effect it where it never goes into shit down mode again and keeps flattening battery.

The ONLY way I would own a POS like this is with a dealer extended warranty . They MUST be FORCED , by law , to either fix the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time or provide a similar loaner . If they " can't " fix it , then buy it back at a premium price . They built it and " can't " fix it ? Are you kidding me ? In today's Newsday , the AAA Car Doctor has a question . The 2015 Ford Edge has codes . The dealer said " indicate possible trouble with transmission range sensor and solenoid body " . Estimate : $ 1600.00 , but could not guarantee this would fix the problem ! AGAIN - this is TOTAL MANURE ! We will hang parts , YOU PAY , NO GUARANTEE ! What am I missing here ? Are you kidding me ? Great diagnosis - AGAIN !
