Dealing with a partner coming out as trans 

My spouse and I are about 20 years older than you two and have been together for 25 years. When we started going out I hadn't even heard the word transgender and coming out at the time was extremely hard. I knew my identity since 4 years old. The world filled me shame and made me think transition was impossible. I told my spouse what I knew about myself at the time and she accepted that. I never thought I would transition though. As time slowly went on it got harder for me to hold this in. Then 5-6 years ago I couldn't hold this in any longer. Luckily she was willing to stay with me and work on the relationship. It took time and I was a slow transitioner so that helped her. She did go through that phase of "what is my sexual orientation". Now she is through that and just loves me for me. She won't try to label herself. We look like a lesbian couple and her new coworkers might think that, but she doesn't seem worried about it. I think our relationship has improved after my transition. I can finally show up as myself.

I was born as male, a father and a husband to my wife, but I recently I realised I would like to express as a woman than man. It is weird and I really wish there is a stop button to my feeling. So I can stop this but I can’t.. I still love my wife as she is. But she can’t be with a woman.. the is very hard.. Thank you for sharing always feel better to watch your video

Hi, Thank you so much for taking on this topic! My spouse and I are dealing with many of the same questions and issues right now. She's known of me being transgender MtF for some time now and I've had 5 years of electrolysis and 3 -1/2 years of HRT, and planned to start living full time in a few months. Until now she's been okay with me dressing in our home and while on trips far away from our home town in the U.S. We are an older retired couple with adult children who all know about me and are accepting and, as of last year, grandparents. She's always stated if I transition we need to separate or get divorced. In December she surprised me when she called me while I was out of town and said "We need to talk". I thought to my self "This is it. She's come to a decision." and asked that we actually have the talk in person for better communication than over the phone. This is when she surprised me by stating "She is okay with me presenting as Christie in our home town (and in our yard) but she will not be out in public with me as Christie. After thinking about it I thought "Okay, so I will try presenting as my male self, Chris, when we go out together and Christie otherwise and see how we can make this work". I also think this could be impossible if not dangerous for me in our small, remote, city of 25,000 people. We both seem to be compromising and I am hopeful. I am also forever hopeful that she will see her fears about and reasons for not staying with me as largely unfounded. I think she is forever hopeful that I will be happy with the older arrangement of just being myself in our home and on trips far from home and not out to the people of our home town. So the question is are we kidding ourselves that this relationship and compromise will work? I guess we are the only ones that can answer that question for each of us. Separation or divorce still might be the final outcome. Thank You for All You Both Do! Hugs! Christie

I just enjoy so much listening to you both. This video series is a great idea... I came out to my wife a few months ago, and of course was difficult, however, since she is bi, it was easier in a way; your comments in regards not putting labels is so poignant.🙂

My wife came out as trans. As a bi guy that wasn't a big deal for me but I know for a lot of people it is.

Im still in the early stages of transition I dont know whats the right size of clothing I was told a large but I was just asking

Ah, the new gender speed run. I did the exact same thing. Went a little overboard with the femininity for a while and tried to catch up on 30 missed years of being a girl in a very short time.
