Learn how to sit comfortably for meditation. Some of you have asked, so here's a link to the cushions I use in the video. www.sunandmoonoriginals.com/s... Videographer: Derek Lee Assistants: Emily Chen, Mario Cee
I learned this the hard way after I attended a 10-day meditation course in 2016. But i learned it slowly til i perfected it by trial and error. But still thanks for this video bec i still learned somethibg great from this video. Thanks a lot :)
It's great you mentioned the meditation-yoga link here, many modern sources seem unaware of the link, that yoga wasn't yoga for it's own sake, but to support meditation
Thanks so much Nancy! I’m planning an updated version of this. A four part video, about 5 min per part, called Sitting Meditation Startup Kit. Part 1 is Intro and Stretching, Part 2 is The Postures, Part 3 is What to Do When it Hurts, and Part 4 is a Guided Meditation that ends silently, to tell you try it all out. What do you think about this plan?
I happened to found your video and my I'm soo thankful . Big applause to you as I learned a lot from proper stretching first to doing it gradually ......again thank you so much
This must be my lucky day; I found two excellent, 5-star-worthy videos on this topic; this is one of them. Thank you for such a good, down-to-earth, practical instruction, Mr. Golub!
You have answered every questions of mine. Great to find people like you. many gratitude to you for the excellent technics shared with every aspirant. May Divine bless you :)
Neil, thank you so much!! It’s an extremely well-structured and helpful video! I recently began doing sitting meditations regularly and struggled with back pain. Now I realize that it's due to the lack of flexibility and equipment, and I have a clear improvement plan. Thanks again!
A great teacher...I always thought that i was not normal because I saw everyone sitting in these positions and I could not so I stop going to yoga classes...now I learn these stretching positions...so there is hope...I will keep you post. Thank you Mr. Neal Golub.
🙏🙏🙏 May you have lots of merits on this teaching. It will give you nice results to you if you practice the objects given in "Mahasathipatthana sutta" using this nice stable postures.
I appreciate you so much! This video is exactly what I needed. My knees were hurting Burmese position, but now with the stretches it’s all gone. Thank you my man 🙏
Jason Loke thanks for your comment! Stay tuned for an updated version I am working on called Sitting Meditation Startup Kit. A four part video that hopefully makes this info a little more accessible
I am just starting this adventure of meditation/mindfulness and found this to be so helpful! So many tips and strategies here! Thank you for making this video!
I'm searching for this kind of video for long time...I'm doing meditation sitting on the chair but I got back pain everytime....now no more back pain after using the pillow as you said....thank you so much!! :)
Thank you for taking the time to make this informative video, I am new at meditation and I don't meditate often because it is unconformable to sit with you legs crossed since I don't have the flexibility, which I will need to work on.
Thanks a lot Neal! That's really what I was looking for, after a few days using your strategies I can stay in burmese posture for 30 minutes..warm greetings from Italy!
You are right on with those stretches... i can barely lean forward at all in both but i have been doing them every other day for a couple weeks and i am sitting through about 20 minutes without any pain in my knees or feet.... thank you. Before i could barely make 10 minutes without having to stop or disturb my meditation to stretch out my legs.
Candice Sirju thats great to hear, thank you for that feedback! When you feel ready, try to doing two rounds of those stretches instead of one. Do one stretch, then the other, then the first again, then the second again. Nice and easy. It will help your progress. But only if you like it! If you push too much you might just stop and that’s the worse thing. Best wishes to you!
Good solid thoughtful suggestions. Important to say It's not a one-way street of improvement: I've been sitting zazen 40 minutes a day for 35 years, sitting very comfortably in full lotus the last 8 or so (before that it had been half-lotus). When I finally realized I could switch to full, it was a wonderful feeling and is definitely my favorite pose. BUT, because of COVID I started climbing stairs inside my apartment, and apparently overdid it, sometimes doing 2 at a time, and maybe pulled a muscle behind my knee. Also, some days I sat twice, because of stress. My left knee and hip started aching unbearably. Encouraged by this video, I will start sitting in a chair with a cushion to get the right down angle until it (hopefullY) recovers. Plus, the stretching suggested is better than what I was doing, as I was going to the pain point while he stops beofe that. So we'll see....
You're welcome Chai! Heres a couple of suggestions for you. First, if you make the small cushion you are sitting on a bit taller, your knees and thighs will naturally get closer to the floor. Second, over time you will get more flexible so your knees and thighs will get closer to the floor on their own as that happens. But in the meantime you can make your current posture more comfortable by rolling up towels and putting one under each knee, for support. Then, over time make the rolled towels smaller and smaller until you don't need them at all!
I’m only 26 but I notice when doing the correct yoga posture my back literally feels broken from work and stress so I’m going to start the stretches slowly. And I’m going to get some pillows!
Agreed this video is so helpful realizing to the proper stretches first before aiming the pose like other flexible people bec .I did and I'm sooo sore after like broken too😥😄
The first part of this video made me realise how NOT flexible I really am. The leg stretches almost killed me - but I loved it! Very helpful video and what an amazing teacher. Great job Neal, I'll be coming back for more!
